Teppan Edo with allergies

I've read Teppan Edo is nothing special when compared with other hibachi places, however - my kids have a peanut and shellfish allergy so we never go to hibachi places for fear of contamination from the shared grill. We figured Teppan Edo would be perfect b/c of Disney's careful allergy awareness.

Has anyone with allergies eaten at Teppan Edo? I want my girls to experience the hibachi chef skills - do they have a lot of showmanship at TE?

They put on the usual hibachi show. If you let them know about the allergies, they will prepare their meals separately, in the kitchen.

I'm allergic to all seafood. When we go to Teppan Edo, they send someone out first to talk to me and then will cook my food first (on the grill, not in the kitchen) if someone is ordering seafood at the table. They used to serve only sticky white rice but a couple of years ago that changed for something different which apparently has some kind of fish powder in it so they substituted the white rice (which is what I normally get when I go to Japanese restaurants at home so I personally prefer it). I've never had any issues there. I can't, however, speak to peanut allergies.

It's not bad but is not as good as the hibachi places at home. It was a good meal though. We told them my wife could not have seeds or peanuts. They were very good to ask us questions and meet our needs.

Great stuff! Thank you. I know it probably won't be as good as hibachi places at home, but I don't trust places at home to have our best interest at heart. I trust Disney. I just wanted our daughters to have the hibachi experience at least once.

I am allergic to shellfish, and TE has always offered to prepare my meal separately in the kitchen to avoid cross-contamination. you can still watch the "show" when they cook the other people's meals

DH has a shellfish allergy and we routinely do hibachi at home. Just let them know to cook shellfish last, or have them prepare the allergy person's food in the kitchen. Saving the shrimp for last is all that has ever been necessary for DH. Honestly, If you tell them, any reasonable restaurant should be able to accommodate this. The grill is supposed to be thoroughly cleaned between parties and we have never had a problem at multiple hibachi restaurants.

Great to know! I've just always been over-paranoid about it with regular places. Disney just always seems to go above and beyond any expectation we have so I feel good about trusting them with this.

Depending on the severity of the allergy, they will either prepare the allergy-safe meals before they prepare anyone else's, or they will have those meals prepared separately in the kitchen.

1) Based upon allergy severity, I would not have the food prepared on the teppan surface.
2) The metal surface is porous and can retain some of the previous meal's allergens.
3) That is why eateries have special work surfaces in the kitchen for allergy prep.
