I will be on the basic dining plan, do you prefer Teppan Edo or San Angel Inn, I'll be on the basic dining plan

Thanks!

Teppan Edo is a MUST do for us every trip. San Angel Inn is much more authentic food than a chain (On the Border etc.) We love the atmosphere in there, but don't care much for the food (I guess we enjoy chian food too much! ;) )

Never Been to SA. But Teppen Edo is a never miss for us. It's not like the ones at home. This place is so good & fun we never ever go to the ones in our home town.

SA Inn is really gross, IMO. The atmosphere is fabulous but you can check it out just by going in the pavillion and riding the boat ride.

Teppan Edo was a great surprise for us last trip - we walked in for lunch, seated immediately (no reservations), and had a really tasty and fun experience. I had skipped over it for years and was pleasantly surprised!

I like both restaurants. The food is better at Teppan Edo but I love the atmosphere of San Angel Inn. If I had to chose between the two I would have to go with San Angel only because eating in the pavilion is an experience I can’t have anywhere else while I have 3 restaurants around here that are very Teppan Edo like. In all honesty though you can’t go wrong with either.

We ate at the Japan TS when it was the other name. I don't know how different it is now, but just to keep my comments in perspective...

These two restaurants offer two very different experiences IMO.

In Japan, you will be sharing a table with other people. Neither good nor bad, just something to think about when you picture your meal. The food is fresh and hot, cooked right in front of you. You end up eating your meal in stages a bit, eating as the food is prepared. Depending on the size of your party and if people order different things, this means that some food will be ready faster than others. Some may be eating while others aren't. This mostly affects younger diners, but isn't an issue if you share. The meal is more about watching your food be prepared. It is an entertaining meal. It is quite relaxing in a way to just sit and watch and be quiet for a while. I've rarely read negative reviews of Japan TS. I think I've read more about disappointment over the fact that they don't do fried rice than bad food.

San Angel Inn has very cool atmosphere. The tables can feel a little close. It's a dark, dark restaurant. I remember I could see my food better in my pictures than in real life. This had a quiet effect when we were there. It didn't strike me as a loud restaurant. Not library quiet, but I don't recall booming music or voices, etc. We could here the band playing in the common area at different times during the meal. I think the food here is hit and miss. My family enjoyed our meal here. Here's the link to my positive review:

IMO, as with all restaurant choices in WDW, it's not only about the food, it's about the dining experience. Which kind of restaurant do you see fitting into your day better?

I hope this helps to highlight some of the differences between the two.:goodvibes

We did SAI for lunch in Oct and we really liked it. I can get better and cheaper hibachi locally so we skip Teppan Edo

I haven't been to Teppan Edo but I went to San Angel Inn on my last trip and wasn't impressed. I know a lot of people here don't like the place but I use to. This trip, I thought the food quality really had gone downhill. They had also increased the prices too but that won't matter since you're on the dining plan. Maybe I had just caught them on a bad night but I don't think I'll be going there on future trips.

I have to vote for Teppan Edo. I have been there twice in the last two trips, so I guess it's a MUST see for me. I have always done the steak and chicken combo or the steak and shrimp combo. Both are awesome! The atmosphere is fun and the food terrific. You can't be shy at this one though as you seat at a table with 8 people. If there are not 8 in your party you will be seated with strangers.

I love the atmosphere at San Angel, but I found the food quality and choices lacking. Such a shame because it is a beautiful location.
