My husband has a shellfish allergy, and he will have a slight reaction at a hibachi-type restaurant even if he doesn't eat any shrimp. I think a certain amount of the shrimp is aerosolized when they cook on the table side grill, and it gets in the air and causes a problem for him. Just be aware of this if your family member has a severe allergy and be prepared to leave quickly if they start to have a problem.
