Tents and damp beds

We're thinking of taking the kids tent camping at FW instead of the NC mountains this year. Our trip would be early May. One thing I hate about camping is damp bedding from the humidity. Does anyone have any recommendations to avoid or help with this issue?

Not quite sure what the May weather is, but we have been to FW twice in Aug. and it raines every day with super humidity. Never had damp beds.

I open the windows to my tent and run a fan all day. (Even in the winter). That takes care of the dampness 99% of the time. If it is especially humid, I'll drop the sheets and blanket in the dryer for a few minutes.

Although, now with the minimum coins in the dryer being $2.00, that can get costly unless you are doing a load anyway.

It used to be, you could put a single quarter in and get 3 or 4 minutes of drying time.

Are you using a ground cover under your tent? Only other suggestion is to leave a fan running all day.

We do the same thing. Leave a small fan running, and keep the windows cracked (not all the way open, in case it rains) LOL

I actually can leave my windows all the way open when it's raining because of the way my rainfly is designed. (unless of course it is sideways blowing rain in that particular direction).

Ugh....just the thought of camping in sideways rain gives me the willys!! LOL!

I haven't tried it, but I bet that fleece sheets would work. Fleece clothing tends to feel the same whether wet or dry so I bet the sheets would too. My kids have them for their beds at home and love them.

Several years ago I was in the jungle in Nicaraugua during the rainy season, and the rain went sideways. It was not fun.

The only thing that will actually remove the humidity is an air conditioner.

About a month or so ago, there was a thread on this board on using a small window unit a/c in a tent. The small a/c's are cheap, and it's amazing how well they work in a tent.

We always put an extra layer over the bed ( a sleeping bag or extra blanket ) that was just to cover the beds tuck it in all around and uncover at night
