My thought is, is that you know your family best. Me... I could make the tent camping work (even in Florida). I like the outdoors. I have camped (in tents) in very HOT weather (no sleeping bag needed) and very COLD weather (waking up to dig out from the snow). So the tent thing (especially with an AC) I could make work. Sadly though (or maybe happily too), it's not just me. My DW.... NO WAY would she tent. She is more of a "Glamper". If necessary, she might compromise to a Pop-up if it has AC, heat, Toilet, TV, and a fridge. She is less concerned about a stove/oven (well maybe a microwave) because I do most of the cooking.
Questions to ask yourself. How would the temperature (with or without AC) impact you and the family? What about sleeping accommodations? Cots, sleeping mats, inflatables, beds? Linens or sleeping bags? Refrigerator or coolers? (Do you have access to Ice?) Are you bringing the stuff with you or are you renting it on-site? Since it seems cost is a factor, do you have your own tenting equipment?
I am not looking for answers to these questions, I just think you need to know the answers to figure out what's best for you and your family/group. You must consider the entire group, because let me tell you, 1 unhappy person can spoil it for the entire group. So if "Little Suzie" is going to be miserable the entire time because of the choices made for her, it will impact everyone else.
Just know that whether you are camping in a tent or a 5er, there are levels of compromise. On a scale of "Roughing it" Tenting is near the top but a MH is closer to glamping then roughing it.
