Tennis Lovers - US Open Thread

OMG, yes! I was GLUED to the set. My heart was RACING during that tiebreak! I was soooo nervous for both of them! I really would have liked to see Blake win....just for the fact that he was so much the underdog and his run this year has been so inspiring. I LOVE Agassi and couldn't decide any other way! But I'm still happy for Agassi and I think he can take Federer this year.
My predictions for today's two big matches are Hewitt and Federer, though I wouldn't mind seeing Federer dismissed. :)

And pjeople ask me" why do you watch tennis on tv", it's SO boring!".

I was glued to the set.

I felt so bad for James Blake. His story is amazing.

Agassi deserved to win. He didn''t give up when he was being beaten in the first two sets and in the end, he played the crucial shots better.
herc.

Agassi was pretty much always my choice to take the tournament - up until James Blake's run....then I thought it'd be so nice if he could capture that title. Of course, now I want Agassi to whip some butts!

Ok, just finished watching Pierce and Dementieva play (glad Pierce won). After the match, the announcers made reference to something that had happened to Dementieva (I'm assuming during the match) that "shouldn't happen to a professional player" or something like that. Admittedly, I wasn't watching consistently. I had it on while I was cleaning and watched off and on....you know, would stop cleaning from time to time and watch a few points. So I guess I missed whatever happened.

Anyone know??

Anyone watch the Bryan twins doubles final? Was it that easy for them? I know they've beaten them before but 6-1 in the first set in 21 minutes? That's a bit surprising!

BTW, congrats to them for the Grand Slam win!

The only thing I made note of is how, Pierce took so long for medical time out and had two injuries treated. This made Elena wait for an extended period and it made her lose her concentration. Maybe that's what they were talking about. :confused3

I agree with McEnroe on this one. It has happened in several men's matches as well. Players acting injured and then running around on the court like there's nothing wrong at all. It's an attempt to psych out the opponent. Pierce lost a set so she took forever getting treated for injuries. I have never liked Mary (too much drama).

Yeah, that was it, I just saw a clip of the press conference with Dementieva. She said that Pierce was within the rules to do that, so she can't fault her for it.

While I do agree that there are several players that take advantage of whatever they can this way, it's within the rules. They really need to change the rules to prevent this!

Yay Kim Clijsters! I'm very excited that she won. She was my second choice to win the tourney if Davenport got bounced.

Me too! I hope she can hang tough and take out Pierce. She deserves to win a grand slam!

I was so proud of Agassi! :flower: Now let us hope for a miracle against federer.

I'm actually hoping more along the lines of Hewitt knocking Federer out before he even gets to the finals!!

I am so pulling for Klisters and Aggassi.

Yes, Kim needs to win. She is playing well. Just needs to play her game and not let mary's issues bother her. Mary tends to be pokey between points, too. Wha happened to the 12 second rule anyway?

herc.

According to the USTA rules, players have 20 seconds, but even then, Pierce pushes the limits!

YAY KIM!! :Pinkbounc :cool1: :cheer2:  :bounce: :jumping1:  :jumping2: :jumping3: :thewave:

Kim Clijsters has her first Major!

Was it just me, or did anyone else think that match looked like a first round match and NOT the final!!!!!!!!!!!!
