TEMPORARY Refrigerator Removal from WDW Resorts

I can not believe that there are 17 pages already about the big news at WDW!!! I just hope people do not say that they have a "medical' need for a fridge because their coffee creamer or milk for breakfast is going to spoil! I think that if people say they need a fridge for "medical" reasons they need to show proof of so called 'Medical" reason!!! just keep stirring the pot:stir:

You mean like the insulin? I'm sure lots of people will lie about it. If Disney can't require medical proof for a GAC, I don't know what they can ask for at the hotel.

edit: Does this remind anyone else of the old monorail closures threads from years past?

I plan to make a visit to the local Walmart before flying out. They have these wonderful bags that they sell in the frozen food section to keep things such as ice cream frozen in your car. Thinking if they can keep ice cream from melting, with some ice added they should be a good cooler bag and much easier for air travel.

Oh man. This really stinks. We arrive in 4 days. We had planned on having breakfast in our room every day and, to be quite frank, it is not in our budget for this trip to eat breakfast at the food court every day. We will bring a cooler, but you know there will not be enough ice.

What will you need to be able to still eat breakfast in your room? They sell the small bottles (maybe 16 or 20 oz) of milk in the market area of the values and also half gallons of milk, too. So if you just need milk for cereal or something, it may not be too costly. Good luck, and have a fantastic trip! :goodvibes

I actually can't see it taking 4 months to resolve this, apart from the fact there is no way it should take as long to replace the fridges, people rely on them and I can imagine their absence will create a LOT of complaints which Disney won't want.

They said it would take up to 4 months. So some resorts/rooms will have them much sooner than others. I think by Nov you have a good chance of having a fridge when you get there. I am going mid August so I do not expect to have one in my room when I arrive.

Aren't those made to keep things cold for just an hour though? I have one and never use it. I'll have to pull it out and give it a try.

We stayed at the Contemporary in a tower room last month. When we arrived, the refrigerator was not working. I called maintenance and the man came with a brand new one which also would not work in the cabinet.

At the Pop I noticed the fridge had to be in the cabinet "just right" so the door would close properly. If not the door didn't close which made the fridge work improperly.

All of you posting about not having a way to keep your kids' milk cold are almost making me feel like a bad parent. My first reaction was, "How am I going to keep my beer cold???"

And all of you concerned with medications - on a recent trip (not to Disney), the resort ran out of fridges (even though I had called and noted I needed one - it was a work convention, I was pumping milk for my son who I had to leave home). Several times a day I had to walk down to the front desk and hand over my milk - I was not thrilled (anyone who has ever pumped will tell you how protective they are of their milk!). Disney seems like they have their act together better than a normal resort, but just in case be prepared to have to hand over your medications, etc to the front desk to keep.

I used to refer to my pumped milk as "liquid gold" :lmao:

Your not alone. My first thought was my beer and wine. This may be a good excuse to switch back to club level.

Is this part of Limited Time Magic?

Next week, they remove air conditioners

I think I will have a trial run at home to see how it works, then if it keeps cold take it along. I know they are made to keep frozen items frozen for an hour or two in a hot car, so I think it might keep cold items cold for a while if including ice and leaving in an air conditioned room.

I am just venting. We are using ME so no way to stop and buy a cooler. Will need to pack one in my luggage which means less room in my suitcase.

Hoping POFQ will have the frigs replaced by October.

Feel bad for people arriving this summer that need lots of water in the heat and no frig in the room. Disney could make lots more $$ on people having to buy cold milk, water at the resorts rather than bringing their own or ordering groceries.

Or you could use a cooler as one of your pieces of luggage...

::yes::
I am so glad to be done pumping - it was stressful always worrying about getting the milk to a fridge! Now he only gets it direct from the tap at night. I was going to try to wean him from that, but if there is no fridge at Pop in September, it may be a great way to save money if he is still nursing.:rotfl:

This!!

We had a problem at least 10 yrs ago with the fridge in our room and when maintenance came to look at it, he said that they have problems all the time with the fridges freezing up and not working properly because they are inside cabinets with no ventilation. So, why in the world would disney refurb rooms and make the same mistake again? I dont get it.

Hopefully Disney finds a way to replace them quickly. I don't see how they can possibly think it is ok to leave guests without a fridge and not telling them until they checkin. That is awful. Plus, if a whole resort does not have fridges, I would imagine the ice machines would be constantly empty from people filling coolers.

To the best of my recollection, the Pop Century ice machines never ran out of ice, even before there were refrigerators in every room.

Who did y'all call? The resort or a main reservation number?

I called CSR first, and I was promptly transferred to a CM at the reservation center who in turn called CSR herself to speak with a manager.:confused3 When she got off the phone with the CSR manager, the CM informed me that they would guarantee a refrigerator in the room for our stay. At this point I don't know what to believe, so it should be interesting to see how this whole 'fridge fiasco' plays out when we arrive. I can only assume that Disney will step up to the plate. Funny thing, just yesterday my biggest concern was if our request for a room location would be met, now Disney goes and throws this curve ball at us, and all I care about is getting a fridge for meds; what a difference a day makes.

4 months make sense for replacing all the fridge.

There is over 20,000 rooms in WDW alone. That's one huge order. Even if the company that makes them had all of them in stock just moving these quantity from the factory to Disney would take weeks.
