Tell us your FP strategy

This may be a silly question, but I have a bit of FP confusion. How many FP are you allowed to have at a time? I thought you were only allowed to have one at a time, and you couldn't get a new one until the time for an older one had passed.

If that's the case, how are you guys accumulating multiple passes to use later in the day? Do you just wait past the time printed on the FP for all of them and use them in the evening?

This is how I thought FP worked too. I'm confused.

There is absolutely no way (currently) that WDW is able to keep track of what FP you have...they are simply pieces of paper. They choose to allow you to use them late...as is their prerogative.

There is really no system in place to track when/if you use the FP, there is a time on the FP (seperate from your ride time) for you to get another one--it could be at the same time as your ride time, but if you get a FP and the ride time is a long way off, there is a time on the bottom that says you can get your next FP at....
Surely someone has a picture of a FP that they can share with us that says it better than I just did:thumbsup2
After saying that you can not just collect FP all over the park, you have to wait for that time on the FP to pass, but you can have a couple in your hand at once!
I am sure I have confused you since I am slightly confused now:confused3

My MK Strategy:

(this involves getting fastpasses as SOON as you are allowed too)
Space Mountain
Winnie the Pooh
Peter Pan's Flight
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Splash Mountain

Get them in that order and you should have them all pretty early in the afternoon for of the rides and can then get repeats.
I have never gotten or used fastpasses for:
Philharmagic
Buzz
Stitch's
Jungle Cruise

NICE!!! And I see that there is no backtracking on this plan....:thumbsup2

Soooo, do you ride as you walk your way around to collect these FP's?

2ndly, assuming you get the FP for Space Mtn ASAP when you've walked in at rope drop....by the time you finish up getting the FP for SM, what is your estimated return time for Splash - out of curiousity? :cool2: Thanks

I think Soarin' is one where they DO check the time. I've never had a problem with any of the others.:goodvibes

We rode Soarin' during our FP time but had leftover FPs. I asked the CM if they could still be used since the end time had passed, and he gave me the :thumbsup2, so we gave them away.

We rode most of our rides during the window, but never had a problem when we were late. I've heard they just check to make sure it's past the opening time, but I think, maybe, two CMs actually looked at the FPs.

We tend to use ours as soon as the window opens up. We have never waited later than our time slot as we just want to ride everything right away!

WOW!

I did not get any FP last year, as there is very little I can do (ride wise) but DH and DS got them regularly, however, they missed a few FP windows (due to ADR's running late/busy restaurants) and we simply thought our chance to use them was over (as the time was a bit past).

This is good to know in case that happens again! Has anyone ever been turned away on here, using expired FP?

Great to know. Thanks!:)

I'll be the dissenter here...I have been refused now 3x on a late fast pass( so yes it does happen...rare but does) I was refused once on Splash and 2x on Soarin. Most CMs say it is fine to use late.I think maybe they turned me away because the park was mobbed that day:confused3

one of the best things we've done with fastpasses is give them away to other guests!
We collect fp's throughout the morning and use them all the time, but when we're done at a park... we're done and ready to call it a day. But rather than throw away any unused fp, we seek out people heading to the regular line or ask those standing in line by us at a different ride, and ask if they could use a fp.
Last year a cast member overheard me offering extra fp to a family heading to the end of the loooong Test Track line. He stopped me afterwards and gave me a Disney button, thanking me for "spreading the magic." That was fun.

What about leftovers from the day before...:confused3 Is that out of the question?

FPs are good for the day they're issued, although there are always differing reports and opinions (or else it wouldn't be the DIS boards!). :goodvibes

Yep, I do ride because eventually you will have to wait sometime before you can get another. If you do that on a mod-busy day you will probably start out at about one hour and probably be up to two full hours wait by the time you get your next fastpass. If you go on a slow day it shouldn't be too bad. I would say on a busy day doing that you should have a return window of about 6-8 pm on Splash, but again it all depends on how busy the park is.
