Tell me your thoughts about "The Secret"

because I Love doing hair too:) I really enjoy talking to people everyday, meeting new people everyday and making them feel better about themselves...my cake stuff relaxes me when I'm stressed (except of course when my dog eats the cake!). I thoroughly enjoy doing both and don't want to just one or the other...If I gave up hair and such, I'd miss my clients:( Most of the reasoning for doing the esthetic stuff is that I don't like turning people away from things that I don't offer and I do that a lot.

But I'd love to work less hours, make more money and still see my clients, most of whom I consider friends. I'm an avid learner, I love learning new things.

Ok, so I'm heading back a few pages right now!

I can totallly relate to you on this. I LOVED doing hair too. I really enjoyed making people look and FEEL great about themselves. I went to Cosmetology school while in high school and just last year changed careers. I just didn't like working on the weekends now that my kids are starting to get more active in sports/cheerleading etc. I didn't want to miss out on that so I now work a mon-fri 9-5 job. I still have the opportunity to help others but in a different way now. I still do hair on the side like I said before but it's on to a new adventure for me now. My favorite thing to do was color/highlights but I also did manicure/pedicures/waxes/perms/cuts etc. The money was good. Haircuts started at 35.00 and highlights started at 85.00.

Just a thought.... You own your own business right? Why not hire an esthetician to work for you and teach you. Don't you only need Cosmetologist license to do facials too?? I know it's different state to state but I know here you can do nails/waxing under cosmo license.

I am covered for all that, but was not trained how to do it:(

AWESOME!! Great job! If you lived closer I'd ask you to make my kids b-day cakes for their b-days. You do a great job :)

As mentioned in pervious post Feralpeg from here does gift baskets. We had her deliver a christmas tree, decorate it and also decorate windows during our last disney trip. Since we were at Disney over Christmas I surprised my DH and kids with having our room decorated with tree and let me tell you what a nice surprise it was!! We just walked into our room on day 2 and it was all decorated with this BEAUTIFUL decorated tree all lit up!! :goodvibes
We took it all home with us too.

Thanks! Feralpeg made us a couple of gift baskets in 2006 when we went to Disney, the kids loved it! She does a fantastic job.

OMG! That's so adorable. I'd want to adopt a dog just from the pic on your cake.

Beautiful cake, DisneyNutbsv!

I thought everyone here might enjoy Today's thought: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1946844

I love this thread and enjoy chatting with you all. It feels strange not to know your real names. If you feel like sharing your name and some details of your life, please do so. If not, we love you anyway.

My real name is Jody. I'm 41. I live in Columbus, Oh. I recently joined the Columbus Center for Spiritual Living (CCSL) which is a New Thought church whose philosophies focus on Religious Science. My DH is something of an atheist. My twin DDs (5yo) go to CCSL with me. The youth class teaches about being yourself, respecting others, appreciating differences and such.

I have a planner which I use specifically for my Spiritual Journey. I have dubbed it my Spirit Guide. I have sections on Intentions, Goals, Creating my Day. On the Daily Pages, I note recurring themes, inspirational quotes I come across, coincidences, manifestations, etc. This guide has really shown me how much I used to miss. It is amazing to look back over the week and see how often a subject or message has come up.

I also have a separate journal that I keep next to my bed. Every day, I write down 5 things that I am grateful for. I am amazed at how very much I have in my life. I also recently started Morning Pages (thanks Imzadi). I have discovered much from this tool as well.

I am a Systems Specialist for Ohio State University, which is a far cry from what I thought I would be doing. I have a 3 bedroom, 1.5 bath, 2 story home w/family room in basement in a full, but clean, quiet, friendly, safe neighborhood. I have a cat.

I love cooking when I have the time. I love to bake, but am not good with cakes like some of you. I can make awesome fruit breads and muffins. In the fall I love to make soups and stews. I also make ahead a good number of casseroles to freeze for the winter.

I want to spend more time outside in nature. I want to meditate more. I want to learn some basic yoga stretches.

Well, I think that is enough for now. Share if you feel comfortable.

There's a job that must be done. Will you get busy and do it or will you just sit there and avoid taking action?
The way you prevent yourself from taking action is to have a set of reasonable and believable excuses. The way to get the work done is to replace those excuses with clear and meaningful reasons that are far more compelling.

Every delay is a wasted opportunity. For time is a most precious and irreplaceable resource.

Each time you think of an excuse for not taking action, overpower it. For each single excuse, quickly come up with two good, solid believable reasons for moving forward.

Yes, if you choose you can talk yourself out of doing what must be done. Fortunately, you are just as empowered to talk yourself into taking any necessary action.

Decide to blast away every excuse with two good reasons for going ahead and moving forward. And the odds are two to one that you will indeed reach whatever goal you choose.

Thanks Jody for the compliment:)

My name is Brenda, I'm 37 (ack, almost 38), salon owner/ stylist that loves to decorate cake, lol. I'm a mom of 3, married to dh for 17 years. Currently have a senior in HS. I live in the White Mountains of NH, great in the summer and fall, but we get too much snow in the winter and too much mud in the spring.

I currently am not involved in any church, the last church I went to had too much politics going on and I didn't really want to be a part of it. I just want to be inspired:)

I would like to start doing the morning pages and currently have that specific post saved to read a little later, I am adjusting to getting the kids back to school and myself working and possibly going to school, so I just need a little time to do it. I currently have a gratitude journal that I do almost daily.

I'm an avid baker! Except for pies, I try, but they aren't too pretty...
I don't particularly like to cook meals, my dh does, so its a fair trade off. My dh doesn't belong to a church and doesn't really care either way.

My friend Stacey is a yoga instructor and is supposed to start doing yoga outside of the gym where she instructs (gym membership is outrageous!). So, once she starts, I'll be going. She also does Reiki, and Kriya massage (which I have yet to learn about) and she'll be doing this in my salon. She also does this awesome thing called Yoga Body Works. She stretches you out! It feels so good:)

Currently its thunderstorming here in NH, so I won't be able to be on the puter for long.

And we just planned our next trip to Disney!!! Its for next August, we are staying at Caribbean Beach in a pirate room, aaarghpirate:

Have a lovely day everyone!

Good morning everyone....I have been up since 5am this morning (couldn't sleep and for some reason having dreams I'm pregnant!....not happening, lol).

Anyhow, I hope everyone has a beautiful day:)

It is a GORGEOUS day here! ANd I'm off work- going to get my hair cut. And DH took the afternoon off work, so he'll be home early. :yay:

I hope everyone else is having a wonderful day- I'll be back later (gotta get ready to hit the road). :goodvibes

Hello, my friends:

I got this from White Bison.org today. Sound familiar?

Elder's Meditation of the Day - September 10
"One of the first things Seneca children learned was that they might create their own world, their own environment, by visualizing actions and desires in prayer. The Senecas believed that everything that made life important came from within. Prayer assisted in developing a guideline toward discipline and self control."
--Twylah Nitcsh, SENECA

All permanent and lasting change starts first on the inside and works its way out. Having constant prayer and Creator directed visions helps us to live in harmony. This is the best way to grow strong and become a Warrior. No matter what is going on outside of ourselves, it is our projection that makes it so. It is our projections that even give it any meaning. Another way is each day to turn our life and our will over to the care of the Great Spirit. Then He will show us His desire for us. When we are in alignment to His desire, we become very joyful and very happy.

Ok- I am back. I have a great new short hair cut (a cute bob with side-swept bangs- I love it!). DH and I goofed around at Border's with our daughter for while. The weather is insanely beautiful. So, now I'm getting ready to start dinner but I thought I'd pop in and give my Bio.

My name is Becky, I'm 27. I live about an hour east of St. Louis (in IL), in a small little town, in a small but cozycuteandcomfy house. I work at a bank, which is a job that is working for me at the moment, but is certainly not going to be my career. But- for now, it's just right (good hours, flexible days off, small staff that I get along well with). It's kind of like going to work and hanging out with friends all day, which is nice. But, ultimately, I would rather be doing something that helps humanity. Other than giving them cash and helping people balance their checkbooks. ;)

I have been married for almost 4 years. Dh and I have been together almost 8 years, though. He's a great guy- couldn't ask for better. He just started school again. He's going for a 2nd Bachelor's degree to make himself more marketable. We have a beautiful little girl who is 18 months old.

DH was raised Catholic, and I was raised without any formal religion. DH doesn't really agree with Catholicism anymore, and we're both kind of trying to figure out how best to approach the topics of religion and spirituality within our new little family- we're trying to figure out something that works for both of us, and how we want to introduce our DD to the subject. And when I say "we" I mean "I"- I'm far more concerned about it than he is.

I just purchased a FranklinCovey planner because I was inspired by Jody's idea for a spirit guide. I intend to use mine as a spiritual/emotional guide and weight loss helper too! I'm so excited about it- mine came with all kinds of neat goal-planning exercises and how to write a Personal Mission Statement- which I just LOVE!! I love the idea of planning my life, instead of letting my life fall according to someone else's plans. I am really just beginning to learn the power of intention and planning.

I stumbled into the area of New Thought through "A New Earth" and that book has been a gateway for me into a realm of life that I didn't know existed: less worry, less stress, less depression. And I really feel like this is just the beginning of my learning, and I am SO thrilled and excited to finally feel like I really CAN do anything, be anything- the possibilities and options are without limit. :cloud9:

I have struggled with depression and anxiety, but now that is all easing up somewhat as I learn more and study more and PLAN and VISUALIZE. I'm slowly starting to do the morning pages and I have found that when I do them it really helps ease the worry I tend to carry around during the day.

I love helping people. I love LOVE to cook (I especially like baking and trying new recipes). The Holiday Season is just heaven for me- I'm constantly cooking up something. I love to read, spend time outdoors, play with my DD who is growing oh so fast. I'm still crazy in love with my husband even though sometimes he drives me crazy. :rotfl: I love to research cool, unique baby items (clothes, accessories, shoes, carriers- you name it, I've found something awesome). I actually have a dream of opening a store someday: I want to carry high-end, beautiful diaper bags, baby carriers, strollers, funky cool stuff you can't find anywhere else. :lovestruc (I've even dabbled with a rough draft of a business plan). I would LOVE to be able to do it. ANd recently, it's seeming less un-reachable. :cloud9:

I finally finished the work project I was working on with the long 12 hour days. Not only was it rough for me, it was really rough on my cat who's not used to me being away for so many hours on a daily basis. She was feeling really abandoned.

I thought I was going to be working on another project right away for another whole week, without a day off in between, but that project fell through.

Instead, while I was home on Monday, I was hired for another project for THREE days - and will be paid roughly the same amount as the project that would have been a whole week! :woohoo: Can I manifest, or can I manifest!!! party:

My cat & I are loving having me back home again. She's been snoozing on the bed beside me. :cat:

On another note, I am determined to start saving money for groceries so I've been couponing, lol. But hey if I can save some money to feed my brood of 5, I'm all for it !

I LOVE couponing!   I am an expert at it. When I lived in the "Land of Doubles," I used to go home from the supermarket with a ZERO balance on supermarket receipts. Usually I had to buy something cheap & frivolous to make a the balance $.12 that I had to pay, just so it wouldn't screw up the computer on the cash register. :woohoo:

I'll post my Couponing Basics later.

I'd love to hear more about your couponing:)

Here are my Couponing Basics:

Couponing has gotten a bad rep. Many people think it means your poor if you coupon. Or only "certain kind of people" coupon. How about, you just like to spend the money you do make on other things? I think of couponing as receiving free abundance from the Universe. :goodvibes Every Sunday, manufacturers give away free abundance in the form of coupons. Yes, there is a picture of a product with $1, instead of George Washington. But it equates to the same thing. Actually, if you live in the "Land of Doubles," (supermarkets that double the value of coupons,) it equates to $2. :woohoo: Whether you use a coupon or a dollar bill, you exchange that rectangle of paper for products to have and to use.

If you don't respect & honor the abundance that is given, why would you expect the Universe to send more? :confused3

I always thank God/The Universe for the abundance I receive from couponing. I never take it for granted. I could have been made to work for the money instead. I'm not saying couponing isn't work, but, to me, it is much more pleasant. :cool1: And I've been able to make a game out of it - seeing how low I can go. I usually only buy the things I need or that can make my life more pleasant, that I may not have gotten otherwise. So I don't waste the abundance that is given. It's all in the attitude. I even use it for tithing: donating to charities from the abundance I receive.

The best couponing sites I've ever been to are:
MyCoupons.com: Tips of the Trade board
and Hotcouponworld.com/forums/.
They are free message boards with people posting threads for Local Supermarkets in Your Area that hopefully have double or triple coupons programs. They are always posting which coupons to use each week to get things free or nearly free each week from the combined savings of using coupons with the store's weekly sales! :cool1:

There is so much stuff to get nearly free that they've had great threads on how to stockpile & what they've been able to do with those stockpiles like: stock you own cupboards, donating the free food & health & beauty aids (like toothbrushes, soaps & shampoos) to charities, or to make holiday gift baskets with the free, name brand goodies. :thumbsup2

A couple of years ago, I was able to donate a dozen, free Mrs. Smith's frozen pumpkin & apple pies to a Battered Women's' Shelter for Thanksgiving. I called ahead of time, knowing they would accept unopened, unexpired, prepackaged boxes and had space to store them in their own freezers.

A quick couponing lesson using this example: Mrs. Smith's pies are normally $4 at So. Cal's Ralph's Supermarket. The week of Thanksgiving, they went on sale for $2. I had a $1 coupon for Mrs. Smith's Pies which came out in the Sunday newspaper 3 weeks prior. Ralph's has a coupon program which doubles the value on coupons. So the $1 coupon doubled = $2. I waited for a sale (alerted by a Ralph's thread on one of the Coupons websites,) and combined it with the coupon, making the final price for Mrs. Smith's Pies = FREE!!! :cool1:

I knew where & how to get multiples of coupon inserts from the Sunday newspapers, so I was able to get 16 pie coupons. I gave a couple to the people managing the paper recycling center I got the coupons from, and kept a couple for me. We ALL had free pie for Thanksgiving.

Manufacturers give coupons away so that you will try & keep buying their products. They factor in the "loss" from couponers into their equation before they print a determined number up. It is also estimated that for every coupon that is redeemed, 30 are tossed away. So don't feel bad for using too many coupons. :goodvibes Supermarkets fully know what coupons are out in their region. The pie on sale at that price at Ralph's is called a "loss leader," meaning they accept the loss on that item if it will lead you into their store to buy other things. Plus, the stores get reimbursed the price of the coupon by the manufacturers anyway.

For myself, I save loads of money each month & got to experiment with new items that I normally wouldn't have bought if they hadn't been free, or nearly so. I got turned onto Garnier Fructis shampoo and conditioner & now have four full-sized bottles of it stocked up free. I never pay full price for kitty litter, cat food, toilet paper or coffee.

I make themed gift baskets by filling the pasta serving bowls I've made with Classico pasta sauce, Barilla pasta, Bertolli olive oil, assorted Pepperidge Farm cookies, Ghiradelli or Dove chocolate, all for nearly free. I also make a "Movie Time" popcorn bowl theme, filled with free boxes of popcorn & Movie Theatre box candies; and I also do a "coffee, tea & hot chocolate" theme for mugs.

Stockpile pictures 1 and Stockpile pics 2 by others, for those who can't believe it can be done until they see it.
Health & Beauty Stockpile Pic1, and Health & Beauty Stockpile Pic2 Health & Beauty Stockpile Pic3 are also great supplies for Battered Women & homeless shelters. Granted, these stockpiles by others may have gone overboard, but it shows you what is possible & how much free & nearly free abundance is out there! :cheer2:

BTW, it isn't just foods that are free or cheap. And coupons aren't only at supermarkets. Rite Aid Free after Rebate. I get so many free shampoos, toothbrushes & toothpaste each month. Walgreens has just started having an Internet rebate program too. CVS pharmacy also has a program. The DIS Budget Board has more info on that.

Also Staples Easy Rebates has their own program. I have more free Fuji & Kodak photo paper, printer paper, notebooks & office supplies to last me a lifetime. A couple years ago, I got $335 in rebates from Hewlett Packard & Office Depot combined for my new HP laptop computer that I wouldn't have been able to get without the rebates combined with a sale at Office Depot. From previous experience & experiences from people on various message boards, we know which companies will honor rebates & which ones won't. I love the power of the web! :yay:

The portable air conditioner I bought this summer, I bought at Bed, Bath and Beyond. It was selling for $399. (It's not on their website, only in the stores.) I used a 20% off coupon, found in the Sunday sales inserts, and that knocked off $99, so it was $300. :woohoo: The great thing about Bed, Bath and Beyond is they have an unlimited return policy! No return by date. Do be reasonable, but, it's not like if the AC breaks down on the 31st day, you're out of luck by one day with a 30 day return policy - especially on a $300 item.

Also Bed, Bath and Beyond's coupons really have no expiration date. Even though there is one listed, they're real policy is they don't enforce it. They always ring them up. :woohoo:

Another time, I took my mom & DSis to BB&B. I was able to use 20% off coupons for each of us, making separate purchases. We must have saved about $40 on that trip.

I LOVE Couponing!!! :thumbsup2

Wooohooo!! For some reason I can't get my smilies to work????

Anyhow, wtg!!!

Thanks for the thread on couponing! I saved it to my favorites:)

Here is my horoscope for today (I get it daily in my email):
If you have been under financial stress recently, now you can begin to work your way out of it. The Venus-Mars conjunction in your 2nd House of Income suggests that you can combine originality with good judgment to improve your income while feeling better about yourself. Just keep in mind that it could take a few days for your current actions to have their impact.

hmm, I tried quoting it and the quotes are working for me either???

Anyhow, my son's senior class is going to Disney and US/IOA and "He" volunteered me to go, lol. Well, I guess I'll have to suffer and go, lol. Plus we planned our family vacation in August so we are going twice this year.

I'm just stopping in. Needed a boost. I had an annoying day at work. *sigh*

(boy, this place is a nice change of place from the political threads that seem to be reproducing like bunnies on the CB.... I must, must, must stop clicking on them.)

Good Morning everyone!!
My name is Debbie. I live in a Chicago suburb. I have 2 awesome kids, 8 & 11 that keep me young, lol! And an AWESOME DH too:goodvibes Very very grateful!!

I'm also a hairdresser but no longer work in a salon. I now work in financial field. But I still enjoying doing hair and still do.

Trying to sell our home. It's a cute 3 bedroom home and since DH is a Carpenter it's a nice well kept up home. We've just outgrown it a bit.

Really enjoy this thread. Keep posting!
