Tell me why you love (or hate) the Yacht and Beach Club

Hi again,

I am thinking of staying at the Yacht and Beach Club next January. Looking for all the personal reviews I can get. My husband and I are doing the marathon on January 8th. I think we will stay 2 days before and 2 days after and then move to the Ritz Grande Lakes (which I am dying to stay at!).

The Yacht Club and the Beach Club are two separate hotels that share a pool. We frequently stay at the Yacht Club for two reasons: the location is awesome (walking distance to Epcot, MGM and Boardwalk and reasonable bus rides to MK and AK) and because of the pool (Stormalong Bay), which my kids love. YC is a great resort; you can't go wrong staying there.

We've stayed at the BC twice - and will again next summer. Toyed with the idea of staying elsewhere to try someplace new next year, but none of us could deal with not staying at the BC again - it feels just like our home away from home! Coming from NE, we love the airy beachside decor, and it's close proximity to the Boardwalk, Epcot, MGM, etc. Love Cape May Cafe - especially their breakfast buffet, and also Beaches & Cream, as well as SAB. There's not anything we don't like about it!! :cool1:

Stayed at the YC in 2001. Absolutely nothing to hate about it! :earsboy:
Great local, beautiful place, great views. Watched a wedding under our balcony. I Suggest a Boardwalk view. Night time is spectacular!

We stayed at YC in Nov 2004. We don't have one bad thing to say about it.
We were treated exceptionally well, the location is wonderful and so easy,The view and atmosphere is one of the best IMHO, the rooms were a nice size with nice balconies, SAB is just wonderful and well... I could go on and on.
We stayed also at AKL and although it was very nice we thought that YC was outstanding.
When we went back to WDW this past April we stayed at AKL and wished we were staying at the YC. We went over there one day and almost tried to switch so that we could be back.
Also, The Castmembers there are some of the best I believe. We were ALWAYS greeted with smiles and a hello. They really want to please.

One more thing. This was interesting.... we usually vallet park and we have been to all of the deluxe resorts for at least a meal. On this last trip YC was the only resort that had someone come over to the passenger side door to open my door. All other resorts went right to the driver side.
I think this is a show of the level of service they provide.

We stayed YC concierge level in Sept 2002. We loved our room, had great concierge service, the lounge was very nice and we just love the location of the YC. MGM is one of our favoite parks so its nice to hop a boat or just walk over there. The boys also had a great time at SAB.

We've stayed at the YC three times and consider it to be the best resort at Disney! The location, the pool and the ambience can't be beat. The only negatives I can think of is that there's no really convenient place to get a quick, cheap meal and sometimes a convention can take over a bit. During one of our trips, there were new cars parked all over the lawn b/c of an auto dealers convention. It's still the resort we'll choose every time unless budget dictates otherwise!

I like the atmosphere, pool, location of the Yacht Club for all of the reasons mentioned. I also like the Beach Club but tend to stay at the Yacht because all rooms have a full balcony. On the down side? The Yacht Club Galley is closed and reopened depending upon occupancy. We have been there when it has been closed. We have been there when it has been reopened. No deluxe resort should be without a moderate restaurant on premises. One shouldn't have to go elsewhere for a sit down breakfast or buffet, even if its next door. When it reopens there is a sense that they aren't "up to speed". The last time we had the buffet breakfast there a lot of the food items were cold. That's inexcusable. I was glad it was "comped" because I would have been upset if I had to pay for it.

We have stayed at both too many times to count. You have received great information on the location, views, themes, pool, etc.. You really can't go wrong with either. BC is a little less "formal" for lack of a better description. BC is my favorite of the two resorts, while the YC is my DW's favorite of the two. Guess where we stay more often! ;)

Beach Club is a bit musty (though i belive it has been refurbished as of late) and they moved there store to a smaller room w/ less disney products

At first, the theming wasn't that appealing to me, but then I had a Cape Cod trip awhile back and developed a new appreciation for it, especially over at the Beach club. We stayed in a concierge room last November and it had been refurbished...it looked and seemed brand new. It was on the fifth floor, a dormer room, with a terrace view of another wing (we could see the Epcot fireworks over that wing). They did a special fireworks test show at midnight, so that was fun to watch from our room.

I've stayed at the Yacht Club as well. The concierge lounges in both sides of the resort are very similar. Friendly staff in both. At the Yacht Club we had a water view of the quiet pool. I enjoy the quiet pools at both sides of the resorts to relax in the jacuzzi in the evenings. SAB is lovely and my son loves the child sized slide but it gets a little wild and busy for my taste. We really like the property overall, and like looking for the BCV "crocodile" and like the atrium in the Beach club--nice touch. We like these hotels for a change, but the Boardwalk is actually my favorite Epcot area resort, and I honestly prefer the Grand Floridian and the Animal Kingdom Lodge for hotel ambience, but I would never hesitate to stay at the Yacht or Beach club, either. They are all very nice. :flower:

We love the YC/BC - the location alone is enough of a reason. You can walk to Epcot or MGM or take the Friendship. There are lots of dining and entertainment options right there on the Boardwalk. Don't forget the great restaurants at the Swan and Dolphin...Blue Zoo, Kimonos (excellent sushi and fun karaoke), Fresh, Shulas. On the Boardwalk we like Flying Fish. YC..Yachtsman Steakhouse. BC...Cape May Seafood Buffet. The resort is beautiful, the CMs are wonderful and STORMALONG BAY! It's the best pool, hands down, on property.

I can't think of one negative thing to say about the Yacht or Beach Club. Except I'm not there right now.

I have to disagree. I did not find the Beach Club at all musty. In fact, everything was new and in wonderful condition.

I have to agree with Mymatisse (Lisa) - musty is the LAST word I would ever use to describe the BC! Both DS and I have severe asthma - believe me -we would be the first to know and pay the consequences of a mustiness or moldiness. I never smelled anything in the BC - except the wonderful aroma coming from the Cape May Cafe!! :goodvibes

Another vote for BC.We own at BCV and VWL and we like VWL alot but our favorite is BCV.We cannot make ourselves stay anywhere else.We Love that you can be to Epcot in about 5 minutes, walking. The CMs there are wonderful and have never had any complaints at all.
So, saying all that we will be back at BCV in less than 2 weeks. :cool1: :cool1: .

And to the poster that said that BC is musty :rotfl: :rotfl2: .Where oh where did that come from?

How is the bus service for the resorts? We just returned from AKL and used bus service for the first time! We were so amazed at the great bus service that we don't ever want to rent a car again. For our next trip, we are thinking of either yacht or beach club. How is the bus service? Is it really crowded? How far are the bus stops? How many resorts share bus service?
Thanks! :flower:

Another vote for the YC~we stay there constantly and I'm actually heading back up there for 2 nights on Wednesday. It is by far one of our favorite places to stay in the world~and we travel quite a bit so that says alot!

We just came back from the AKL also. Last Nov we stayed at the YC.
Yes the bus service is very good at AKL but I will say that we got pretty sick of taking the bus ( at the end we started using our rental more)
What we love about the YC is that for Epcot you can walk or take the boat. For MGM you can take the boat.
Bus service was also very good at the YC and the bus stop is right outside the door.
For Transportation ( and especially if you are saying that you may not want to get a rental next time) The YC and BC are the greatest!!!! I really think it is MUCH better than the AKL when it comes to Transportation.
