I'll be dining at Jiko in October. Can you tell me your favorite dishes there?

Specifically, the scallops sound good. How are they?

Everyone loves the filet with macaroni and cheese. I liked it a lot (but then, I will eat anything with macaroni and cheese under it :rotfl: ), but I liked DH's sturgeon even better. It was a-MAZING!

We didn't try the scallops in the two times we ate there on our honeymoon, but you really can't go wrong with anything you get there. :thumbsup2

I had the curried shrimp last week and it was very goodl. A friend had the spicy ahi tuna -- very rare -- and liked it a lot. I'm not a fan of the filet, with mac & cheese. I can't for the life of me figure out what is "African" or even remotely exotic about it (seems incredibly American), and the filet I had was only fair, frankly.

Big fan of the lamb shank. And any of their flatbread appetizers.
Tusker beer is pretty good as well.

My husband has ordered the scallops and he said they were excellent - very spicy, however, so if you don't like food with a kick you may want to avoid it.

I admit to being one of those people who ordered the filet with mac & cheese ... can't figure out how it's remotely an African dish but it's usually very tasty and a safe bet for someone like me who can't eat spicy or overly herby dishes.

And I love the cheese plate they serve at Jiko ... it's usually very good with a nice variety of artisan cheeses. :thumbsup2

We had the filet with macoroni and cheese.it was amazing.
The scallops are pretty good.

I had the halibut at Jiko two weeks ago. It was AMAZING!!

I think it's my new favorite entree at WDW. :goodvibes

We usually start with the Tastes of Africa and then salads and then the filet with the mac'n cheese is amazing topped off by some presspot coffee and pistashio (sp?) creme brulee.

Another vote for the Taste of Africa as an appetizer

I LOVE the Fillet and Mac&Cheese...the best fillet mignon I've had anywhere is at Jiko

Enjoy!

My favorite. We have definately favorites there and since we like to try many things we split many of them. The last time we were there we sat at the counter where they make appetizers and got to try many. We thoughly enjoyed interacting with chefs and assistants and will never sit at a regular table again :) We loved the experience. Having said that. We split the following:

Appetizer: Kenyan Coffee Barbequed Chicken - Just awesome and actually made with incredible barbeque sauce from Africa

Salads: Cucumber, Red Onion, and Tomato Salad -- made with organize argugula, cheese, and watermelon vinaigreet -- fabulous

Entree: Tamarind - Braised Beef Short Ribs -- to die for -- it's cooked for hours in a special sauce -- so so good. My feeling is you can get a filet anywhere.

NOTE: You can order the macarroni and cheese as an extra side dish to go along with the Braised Beef Short Ribs -- it's perfect.

Dessert -- Pistachio Creme Brulee -- ahhhh

Can you tell it's my favorite!

We generally avoid ordering filets at Disney restaurants because it's so boring and easily replicable at home but I must admit that Jiko filet was darn good!

Since you mentioned the scallops, which means you like seafood, I will tell you that my all time favorite entree is the maize-crusted fish with vegetables of the moment. It comes with an amazing buerre blanc sauce. Sometimes the coating changes slightly, but the sauce seems to remain the same. The fish is pan seared and has a nice crusty top. Yum!

YES! :thumbsup2 This is what I had and fell in love with - the fish they choose changes depending on what they can get, but I would imagine it's the sauce and coating that make this dish.

Last time I was at Jiko I had the Chef's Specialty Flatbread which was terrific. In the past I've had the Barbecued Chicken Flatbread which I loved. The cucumber, tomato and red onion salad is also great (I order it every time we go to Jiko). My last visit I had the Spice Crusted Pork Tenderloin and it was fantastic (a little spicy but great) and it was cooked perfectly.

My family has been to Jiko many times and it is a must do every trip. Between us we've had many of the items on the menu and have enjoyed them all.

We love Jiko. It is a must each trip.

Appetizers - Taste of Africa, Kalamata Olive Flatbread

Entree: Filet with macaroni and cheese

Dessert: Tanzanian Chocolate Cheesecake

Yummy!! Just thinking about Jiko is making me hungry.

I absolutely love the beef short ribs I've had them several times and they are fall off the bone tender!
