On a mommies board that I belong to a lady is insisting that she is staying at a Disney resort for a timeshare tour and is only paying around $300 and that includes room free tixs and kids eat free. I've explained in detail that disney doesn't do that. The lady is insistent. I tried to explain that disney doesn't need to offer that to get bodies on tours or to get people to buy in. I explained it like disney has a "if you build it they will come" approach. The only thing I can think of is that she is staying at Bonnet Creek and seems to think it is a disney resort. I can't imagine that Wyndam needs to offer that much to get people to do their tours. I figured I would check with the real experts. TIA.

I am not sure that you can label her crazy (though she may be) but she is wrong. I only wish WDW did something like this.

How do you convince her? You probably can't. I have found that sometimes discussing Disney is like discussing politics or religion. You usually can't change someone's mind and eventually the best thing to do is say "oh well" and move on.

Disney did offer a reduced cash rate for stays at select DVC resorts last year to get people to try the villas. I have never heard of free tix, etc... only free fast passes for taking a DVC tour.

I often hear of people that book a resort in Kissimmee and think they are right outside the Magic Kingdom! Some people don't get the idea of how big WDW is.

I wouldn't call her crazy, just badly misinformed. Or gullible. I've seen timeshare solicitations that refer to a "Disney vacation", and I'm sure she wouldn't be the first to think she's going to be staying in a Disney resort.

More to the point, she WANTS to believe that. You've tried to convince her otherwise, she doesn't want to hear it. It's a shame she's going to be disappointed, but you've done all you can.

A few years ago, my sister was offered a chance to go to a timeshare resort and it was shared with her in some way as Disney. But it wasn't, it was a different time share company.

She ended up not doing it but when she told me about it, she thought she was going to be on Disney property since they said you are only a few minutes from Disney.

Act like she's right. Ask her to post the phone number so that other people can check out the great deal. Then you can call the phone number and see who they really are.

She might be staying at Bonnet Creek. Not a Disney property, but right on the edge. No Disney perks, no Disney buses, no EMH.

We did tour the Hilton Grand Vacation Club several years ago and got free tickets to Sea World (that's what we chose) and three nights at the Doubletree Guest Suites at the DTD Hotels for about $66 a night.

I probably scared her off with my strong opinion. I also listed the names of all the DVC resorts in the thread.

That made laugh ;). Hopefully you actually got her to think a minute and realize that you know what you are talking about. Maybe she is checking things out a bit more indepth after your post!

I bet you're right..
Actually, I'm not positive the Bonnet Creek Resort actually borders Disney property. While the larger development parcel of land does border Disney, the BCR is only a part of that development project and appears to be set back in the corner.

To my knowledge DVC has never offered promo stays but I bet that changes for HI. To many, any Orlando resort near Disney is a "Disney Resort" in their eyes. Just look through timeshare ads for Orlando and you'll see what I mean. You likely scared her off because she knew or found out that you were correct. Either way there's a good chance she'll return owning a timeshare.

I agree, my be she is stay off property but they likely have a bus that goes to the parks. We looked at one that was on the property line and they actually said they were next to the main gate. Roll out of bed and into the parks... So she feels it was a Disney resort. My aunt stays at the HoJo across from one of the Celebration entrances and swears she is staying on property. It is all perspective but in this case you may have actually saved her some money. Maybe she was actually interested in buying in because she though it was a Disney time share.

I agree with Dean, many people think any Orlando resort is a Disney Resort/Timeshare. A lot of people are not even away that Disney actually has their own timeshares.

I have had times when I tell someone that I own with Disney and they are like, yeah me too and after a minute or two I finally convince them that we are talking about two different "in Disney Resorts".

It's not even Bonnet. They might be doing a tour there, but Wyndham usually puts people up in mid-range hotel rooms for their el-cheapo tours rather than than the resort itself, all the better to demonstrate how much better the condos are.

I'm not positive the Bonnet Creek Resort actually borders Disney property.
Be careful, MG. That hair you're splitting is already mighty thin...you might cut yourself!

For your edification, the Wyndham parcel is directly "across the border" from CBR. Arguably, it is more centrally-located than OKW, SSR, or (not so arguably) AKV.

Actually, Wyndham's Bonnet Creek Resort is located in the main, northern piece of that property and is the closest of the BC properties to WDW. I have heard that it is surrounded on three sides by Disney property. But it's still clearly NOT an on-site resort and certainly should not be confused with Disney resorts.

Although they do not share Disney Transportation, they do have their own free scheduled bus service to each of the parks. (Haven't stayed there or used it, so I don't know how efficient it is.)

I wasn't really certain where on the property the Wyndham resort is, thus I said "I'm not positive the Bonnet Creek Resort actually borders Disney property".

I made sure to leave plenty of wiggle room in case I was wrong. :teeth:

Well, I'm not positive that my neighbor isn't an axe murderer*, either, but it's not the sort of thing I'd expect to say publicly without leaving the impression that, really, he is.

Nice try though.

(*---actually I'm quite sure he's not. This was for illustrative purposes only.)

True... But one can't be sued for publicly implying that Bonnet Creek Resort isn't adjacent to Disney property.
