Tell me the "weather" where you live.

So you got all supplied up. Just curious how your son is doing in the frozen tundra of the North. Probably the most snow he has seen in his life this year ?

Going a little stir crazy, I think, PaHunter. He drives a Honda Civic which lacks a 4WD mode. And he's learned that the Highway Department won't plow the roads until it stops snowing (so a 2-day storm doesn't get removed until after the 2nd day, for example). Yet his corporate bosses (down in Atlanta where it rarely gets a flake) expect him to be in the office daily.

I think the first big snow storm that came through that put down 6" about 6 weeks ago was the most he's ever seen. And it's been one storm after another almost since then.

It sure is an experience for him.

TN, we added more ice last night. I'd say 1/2 inch covering everything with more to come. 26 degrees now. Keep safe and warm everyone.

My town is right on the dividing line of being in the bad weather or not. I'm in Tuscaloosa in the radar map below.

021521 Radar.JPG

The weather pattern is moving up to the northeast and staying north of the Tuscaloosa-Birmingham-Gadsden line along Interstate 59. But the whole pattern is also drifting very slowly to the east and might get to Birmingham before it's done.

City schools, county schools, and the University of Alabama in my area are all closed today (and likely tomorrow when the REALLY cold air moves in). The precipitation should move out by 8pm tonight so the question is how much moisture will be on the ground to freeze into ice. Forecasted to get a low of 19F tonight and 21F Tuesday night.

tiggerdad, I see you are getting a little wintery mix this morning down in Meridian.

We started out at 0 this morning. The news showed Kansas City, near Part Time Paradise, at -12.

We got a couple of inches of snow overnight. It has paused for now, but is supposed to start back up this morning with another 6 inches coming by midnight.

The outdoor thermometer has given up. It actually goes between 4 and just dashes. I think it gets too cold for the batteries to work well. It works pretty consistently above 10 or 12.

For all of you down South. Stay warm and safe. I know this is unusual stuff.

First thing this morning. Worst of rain going on now, we are right at 32 degrees now so some of it just cold rain. Thank goodness.

Been worried about all of you. For some lucky reason GA is below the line. We have rain and are expecting some stronger storms this afternoon but the temps are above freezing. Currently sitting about 44. I ran this morning before work and it was 42. Very wet and cold. Definitely worse today than yesterday. My issue is tomorrow, i have a pretty full work day with meetings. The temp at 7 am will be 28 with a real feel of 18 and am sure we will have black ice. That means i go at lunch, wont be much better and still below freezing. Actually i think it means running in the parking garage. I don't mess with ice unless i have spikes and i don't have any of those.

We avoided the bad stuff and they are expecting no more precip and no snow accum tonight. Here is the 3pm radar:

Again, I'm in Tuscaloosa which is now on the backside of the storm. It's just gonna get real cold for the next two days.

City and county schools are closed again tomorrow. Life will crank back up on Wednesday.

We may have some of these wet roads ice over by morning but it was not as bad as it could of been.

-2 here right now. I went out first thing to shovel the drive. We got about 2 inches yesterday. I had to take a break once to warm up my fingers.

About the time I got done shoveling, it started snowing again. The drive is totally covered again, maybe with another 1.5"

The local power companies are warning of rolling black outs. Fortunately, our coop hasn't said that they are considering that yet and we have a whole home propane generator and about 1500 gal of propane left in the tanks. I would rather not test the genny, but I think we're set.

Hope the rest of you stay warm.

I'm stuck in my house with my two ladies due to the weather (staying off the roads) and I am going a little house crazy. DW is here with me and DD is home because her schools are cancelled both today and tomorrow. ☃

While I can still outvote them 1 to 2, it would help to have reinforcements.

A double scoop of yogurt in a Dole Whip bowl is the first line of defense. If need be I can move on to stronger measures. :drinking1

PS - I hope the melt comes soon. College baseball opens this Friday and I have season tix.

23 now in TN. We have a couple inches of ice cover. Neighbors tree fell over on his barn. 2nd one this year. We lost 2 big branches on our Japanese Elm. Tons of smaller branches on other trees. A couple are bending over pretty good. The branches are touching the ground on all the trees. The power lines are sagging pretty low. It is sleeting lightly now. Fingers crossed.

Busted out the snow blower and my work was covered again before I was done. Thankfully the snow finally stopped. Just a dusting over the top of the drive this time. Sitting at -2 right now and weatherman saying we'll hit -13 in the early morning. Yowza. Saw this, feels about right:

We lost power here for a few minutes about 1pm. I found out why. The local lumbar yard (which is owned by 2 of my wife's former high school teachers) had one of their buildings catch on fire. It took out a main power line and there are still about 1300 houses without power. Thankfully, ours came back on right away. This is about a mile from my house.

And this was in 5 degrees with wind chills -15 to -20.

We are at +2 degrees right now and the snow is just winding down. It's hard to tell, but it looks like around 7 inches. More coming Wednesday. There is a little warmth coming at the end of the week. Saturday is supposed to be above freezing (35) for the first time since Feb 5th.

Not as bad here. Low of 5, weatherman says high tomorrow much warmer, 20 degrees, woohoo!!
Oh but we also have about 8" of snow to deal with.
People sometimes ask me when we camp in the summer, what we do. I'll laugh and tell them, sometimes, not a darn thing but relax and enjoy
