Tell me the GOOD about August...

This will be my 2nd trip in August..yes, it was hot, but not any hotter than where I live..Plus, the room rates drop after a certain time, we will be there Aug. 10-16. Have a great time and don't the timing...blessings to you

Sometimes it doesn't matter when you go. We were there the last week of March 2007, September 2007, October 2007 and the middle of December 2007. Each time we were there they were having hotter than normal temps. In March, September and October each day was any where between 90-95. In December it ranged around 85 each day. We have decided it doesn't matter when we go, it will always be hot.

August is great - once the kids were in first grade, we started going in August.

Several good things:

1) it is value season at the deluxe resorts. This year I got a 40% off code and will save a lot of money at the Poly.

2) the parks are still open late, but crowds do grow smaller (at least until free dining starts).

3) it gives the kids (and me   ) something to look forward to before summer ends

4) while it is very hot, we will have had all summer to get used to the heat (one year we went in May and almost died from the heat difference since we live in Wisconsin)

There are 18 of us going August 16-30. My family has been to Disney 12 times, but the other 14 will be their first visit. Here's hoping to low crowd levels!!:thumbsup2

August is blazing hot and even more humid! however, there are very few, if any, ride closures, EMH at the water parks and the crowds aren't bad at all! Especially the 2/3 weeks of August. It also rains nearly every day which sends many folks in for the rest of the night! I say, wohoo...shorter lines for the rest of us! Most of the rides (with the exception of the outdoor rides) will run in the rain, thunder and lightning, so if you don't mind it, it's a great time to ride. Just make sure you're wearing Crocs.....it avoids wet socks!

Glad to see we're not the only crazy people going in August! We'll be there from 8/10 to 8/19 at AKL!

The best thing about going to WDW in August is that you absolutely, with out a doubt, know how to pack.

Add us to the list of August people. Because of our schedules (husband is a teacher and runs basketball summer camps, I work at a college, our daughter is in college and our son is in middle school - and for the past three summers has played on an all-star baseball team) - August is when our summer vacation starts!

This summer will be our fourth summer going in August. This we have always gone around the first Friday of the month to the second Friday. This year we are going on the DCL line first and then will be at the parks from the 17th to the 21st (yeah for DVC points!).

We have gone down knowing it is hot (I used to live outside Jacksonville) so I know the heat - but lately upstate NY has been just as hot in the summer.

We do things a little backwards - we sleep in, get up swim for a bit and eat a late breakfast and then give everyone time to shower and get ready. At this point we are starting out the day in a non-rushed "have to be there by...." mood. We have decided which park we are going to based on the evening extra magic hours. We then usually get to the parks early afternoon (yep, when everyone is going back to the hotel to rest or swim in the pool!) hit a few rides/shows - then have dinner early evening. And then we take advantage of the evening extra magic hours. We have waited in line for 1/2 hour at Soarin' and other bigger attractions - but that is it - other lines have been a 10 or 15 minute wait. (Since the kids are older - we also take advantage of the single rider lines when available.) If it gets too hot - we get a drink and sit for a bit or catch an inside show. Early evening we will then grab a snack/lite dinner and be at the park until the night is over. Crowds are still there - but not the way they were when we have gone the last week of June or mid July. It is manageable - and as the night goes on lines are almost next to nothing.

We've been twice in August, and we'll be there again this August! It is HOT, HOT, HOT!! Mascara melting down onto your face kind of hot. One good thing though- it's a fantastic time of year to go to the waterparks. Other times of the year it is too cold to even think about running around wet, in a swimsuit, but in August, it feels like the ultimate way to spend a vacation day! We get up early and go to a waterpark, come home and nap all afternoon, then go to the park for the evening when it is cooler. The parks are open really late in August. Have fun!

The parks are open until 11:00 or 12:00 (and 2:00 or 3:00 on EMH nights). There's plenty (PLENTY) of time in every day to visit the parks, take a break, and go back to the parks for more.

I already replied but wanted to add the thought that I would LOVE to be melting in August compared to the subzero temps of the wintertime!

You won't need to carry jackets or sweatshirts around the park in case it gets cool in the evening, like we do in November and March. There's something to be said for that!

Okay so we've only gone in mid July. I was "warned" about how hot and horrible it would be and totally expected to be miserable! I don't know...maybe the magical pull was much too strong for me to really notice how sweaty I was feeling. True, it was hot (mid 90's and real sticky) but the only day I felt it was on our very first day which was at AK where there wasn't much of a breeze because of all the vegetation. On top of that, I was feeling exhausted from our looooonng trip from Hawaii which I think took like 13-14 hours with barely any sleep.

If I could save 40% in August I'd jump at it! Just expect the heat, know how to deal with it (water, frequent a/c stops, etc.) and think of the fun you'll have! :thumbsup2
