Tell me more about Wal Mart....

We live in a small town. We have a Piggly Wiggly, Harvey's or Super Wal-Mart. Our SWM is about three years old now. It's great. Never dirty, never cluttered. Not enough registers open sometimes but I shop in the morning after I drop my kids off at school, so it's pretty empty at that time. Never go on the weekends if at all possible, too crowded.

Never had a problem with the meat department either. Always fresh, always clean around there. I buy all our meat there.

The other two grocery stores charge a lot more for the products I get at SWM and they don't have as great a selection at all.

I don't work for Wal-Mart, I work for Hallmark but I work in Wal-Mart stores. Does that mean I'm only partially sub-human?

I have had a bad experience with the sandwich from the deli, and with packaged steaks. They both really had funny tastes to them, imo. I do buy packaged sandwich meat from there and stuff like hot dogs (name brands). But, I prefer to buy my meat from the other grocery stores. I have however on the other hand bought a roast from there and it was great, but I just don't chance it anymore.
I bought Bologna from the deli once, it tasted sour, and turned bad in 2 days. :sad2: The Beef is Injected with 10-15% WATER to make it stay longer on the shelves. :sad2: If you want a certain cut of meat, or the fat trimmed off, there is NO Butcher to do that, as they do not hire anyone like that. :sad2: YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR which is NOT MUCH! :sad2:

Not good health insurance? I beg to differ. DH is a farmer and we have always had to buy our own health insurance. When he worked for 3 years at Wal-Mart it was wonderful having our health insurance PAID FOR, and it included dental.

Sub humans working there? What a rude statement!!

ITA! What a horrible thing to say.

A lot of people love to dis Wal Mart and don't want one in their area. Chicago voted to have Wal Mart start paying their employees 10.00 so they can have a living wage. What gets me is that Wal Mart was going to build in a poorer neighborhood where it would have been a huge benefit to the local people, both by having a close place to shop and a viable place for employment opportunities.

Ugh! I don't hate wal-mart okay I do. It's always so crowded. I don't mind kids but it seems like the kids that are in wal-mart run through it like it is there own personal playground, bouncing balls running up and down all the aisles and the parents don't care they just stand there maybe wal-mart is the new playground. They also litter the walkways with items which makes them much smaller and doesn't control the traffic very well. Target seems to cater to the older generation and the kids in there are much more well behaved!

Are you saying I am a HORRIBLE PERSON for stating an Opinion? Too bad, pay attention to some of the check out people, they "pick thier nose" "cut thier fingernails in front of customers" as was stated in ANOTHER Walmart thread, and cough and sneeze all over the customers!

We don't have a Super-Walmart, so I can't comment on groceries, only other items.

Our Walmart is definitely cheaper than Target, etc, but it shows in the quality. Walmart clothing I bought when my older dd was little didn't wear well: it shrunk more than expected, buttons fell off, waistbands lost their elasticity. I had to throw most of it away before she outgrew it. The stuff we bought at other stores held up much better and most of it lasted to be handed down to little sis. Plus a lot of it contains a ton of polyester, and I try to steer clear of polyester. :scared:

Between that and the fact that I have never waited less than 30 minutes in line to check out (even when the place is empty --- they'll have one cashier and h e ' l l . . b e . . m o v i n g . . t h i s . . s l o w ) I don't shop there anymore.

Then, after I'd already avoided Walmart for several years, I read the Walmart pickle story, and it just reinforced my Walmart aversion.

Not horrible, just rude for generalizing like you did. Not ALL Wal-Mart checkers "pick their nose" or "cut their fingernails in front of customers." I've been in many Wal-Marts (and I'm not ashamed of it!) and I've NEVER seen a checker do anything like what you're saying.

And, since you said Wal-Mart employees are sub-human, does that include my DH as well?

I just don't think you should generalize as you did. There are good and bad employees in ANY store!!

I'll never buy their meat there. Everything says "injected with a 12% solution"

but they don't say WHAT the solution is or WHY.

I had never bought it b/c it just never looked right to me (beef stew meat looked like barf---blech) Anyway, one day I asked the meat department worker...

who said "oh, they do that so the meat looks red."

.
Most grocery stores put a dye solution in their meat to make it look red. The only people that don't are if you go to a butcher and believe it or not Costco. (got this from a caterer)

Our Walmart up here in Ontario is very clean and has great customer service. Never had a problem.

Compared to other big box stores like Target and Meijer:
Walmart good: sporting goods, fishing and hunting supplies, auto parts, nice to get an oil change or tires rotated while shopping.

Walmart bad: toys not well stocked, clothes. Out regular Walmart is unkempt. Worst store to go to on the Day after Thanksgiving (well not as bad as Best Buy).

Yes that's true. I also know grocery stores do it to keep questionable meat out longer and repackage meat past the expiration date.
Which is why DH and I buy our meat from a home delivery company now. Much better quality and it's guaranteed. Definitely worth buying in bulk because it's also cheaper in the long run.

I love Walmart because their prices are so low. They also have self-checkout -- I love it because that way I can pack the stuff how I want.

Our's is clean and has a larger selection of prodcuts than the other stores -- they also have lots of the Kashi natural foods which I love.

What I said was it was a horrible thing to SAY! I did not say you were a horrible person. Sheesh, follow your own advice in regards to paying attention. ;)

Calling people who work anywhere, be it Wal Mart or anyplace else sub human is cold, rude and very unkind. I applaud anyone who works no matter where that place happens to be.

A few cents are not worth the aggravation that shopping at Walmart provides. I DETEST that store and won't even go into the Walmart/Sams club area of the parking lot.

I see absolutely no difference between KMart and Walmart. Target either, except that it has a lot of red in the store.

I don't shop in those places much, but when I do I just go the closest one.

BUT, when Walmart started, it was clean, neat, the employees were nice (and helpful!) and there was never a wait to check-out.

I like Wal Mart- the new SuperWalMart that just opened in our town is clean and well stocked. The prices are low, and I have never had any problems with the quality of any fresh grocery items. Since many of the employees are residents of my town, I definitely wouldn't consider them sub-human  . Most are, in fact, really friendly and good at their jobs.

But, I also like Target. the prices for most items are slightly higher, but I prefer the girls' clothing there to Wal Mart. Cuter things, and the bottoms a usually have the adjustable waists, which DD needs (skinny little thing that she is!). Employees there are just as good as anywhere else- maybe it is that Southern Hospitality here in NC :) .

I just go to whichever one I am in the mood for that day- sometimes go to one right after the other. They are both okey-dokey to me.

I used to shop there for EVERYTHING when I was younger. Now that I am older and wiser, I only go there if I actually have alot of time to spend in the store. It isn't the kind of store where you can just go buy a loaf of bread and a gallon of milk and get out quickly. It is quite a long walk just to get to the milk, and then you have to wait behing 10 other people in the 2 express lines that are open.
I do alot of Christmas shopping there though, esp. for my kids. They always have really good prices on toys and electronics, but you have to go early in the morning, when the overnight stockers have just got done and the store is in somewhat straight so you don't have to dig. By mid afternoon, forget it, it looks like someone has just backed a truck up and dumped it all in.

If they're sub-human, then why do you care what kind of pay or benefits they get? Seems to me that your complaints about Wal-Mart are somewhat inconsistent.

I get bad vibes in there. I have been in there, but I avoid it if I can. :bitelip:
