Tell me I'm not crazy

Right now, I feel like crying.
I booked and paid for 1 week at the Floridian Dec 6-13th. I received a 40% airline rate. Of course, you can not get a dining plan with that type of discount and the Floridian is not available for any type of other discount for those days so I can't make any changes to it.
This afternoon, I actually canceled that reservation  and remade an entirely new reservation at POR French Quarter for Nov 30-Dec 7th getting a passholder rate (with dining) and it is $400.00 less than my room only rate at the Floridian.
The downfall, besides being completely depressed over the loss of my room, is that I also lost my dining reservations  Of course, I am having a heck of a time remaking the same dining requests.
Someone, please tell me I still did good?? Is the POR FQ a nice place? Tell me where I should request my room so I am convenient to the buses.
I have gotten so spoiled over the past few years from the convenience of the monorail that I am actually dreading the lines for the buses again.
Was I totally nuts to let my original reservation go?

Why did you lose your dining reservations? Once you're past the 180+10 day mark, ADRs aren't tied to a hotel reservation - that's how people who aren't staying on site can book them.

I'd check back and make sure that they cancelled your ADRs, and then I'd start finding out why and what they could do for me!

The POFQ is a really nice resort, the themeing is beautiful and the resort is nice and compact..is it the GF of course not, but I think that you will be happy there. Considering your savings I do not blame you.
Now as far as your ADRs, I see that you made a change in your dates so of course you will have to cancel some of them. If the ADRs for 12/6 and 12/7 still work for you, keep them. What you may want to do is to consider dining in the off hours...like maybe a late lunch and late dinner and what I would also do is try back again in 30 days to see if anything has opened up. If there is something that I really want to do, I keep trying every few weeks until I leave. Try again when you get to your resort, you can call dining from your room.

I kind of went through the same thing about 3 weeks ago. We'd been booked at the WL for 12/6-12/13 for over a year. Our package when we booked it was going to be about $2100 (std room, no dining, 6 day ph, 2 adults, 2 children under 3). Well, I got to thinking about how much less a mod resort would cost me and it was going to be less than the WL pkg and that included meals, but not ddp, spending money, and rental car, plus room and tickets. Plus, I didn't really want to be in the parks during Pop Warner and Mousefest. So, we changed to the week following Thanksgiving. We got a good room only rate through AAA, and I bought our tickets from Undercover Tourist before the price hike.

While I was upset to be letting go of our deluxe room, I knew I liked PO-R (would have booked FQ, but AAA was cheaper for PO-R), and like my husband said, I wouldn't be having any fun if I was worried about money.

Of course, after I booked my room only and bought tickets:mad: , the discounts came out and I could have saved an additional $100 off and possibly gotten in at FQ, but live and learn. I'm going to try for a lower rate when/if room onl discounts come out (historically happens in Sept), but I'm not holding my breath.

So in short (too late, right), you aren't crazy. I think it's pretty normal to feel the way you do, at least it was for me. However, I think about all the stuff I'll be able to buy and all the fun meals I can have and makes me feel better.

If I'm reading it correctly, the OP lost her ADRs because she moved her travel dates up a week, and now most everything is probably booked up since it's just 3 months out.

That's exactly why :(
Now I'm back to the drawing board trying to refigure my trip and hope someone will cancel something (I know I made someone happy with my cancellations). Now that I have the dining plan (FIRST TIME EVER!!!) I want to take advantage of it LOL
What a headache I have caused myself today :headache:

We have stayed at GF, and most recent FQ. Had a wonderful stay at both places. Although we do use our car, so I can't comment on the buses.
You lost some convenience. But gained a dining plan and some $.

If it's any help, I just booked my ADRs about a month ago. For some reason, I thought you could only book 2 months in advance. Maybe that's the way it was when we last visited in 2004, or maybe I'm high. Either is a possibility. :rotfl: Anyway, by the time I got to call, LTT was of course booked up. Then 2 weeks later, I moved my ADRs to the previous week. I still wasn't able to get LTT, but there was a more reasonable time at Chef Mickey's (dinner 7:55p) available.

If you are willing to not eat at the big draw places and eat a little earlier or later, you should still be able to find ADRs. We managed to get CP, CM, LCdF, H&V, and the princess dinner in Norway.

GL to you. I hate it when planning becomes so frustrating.

I am staying at POR, and I think and many others think that the grounds of POR and POFQ is just about as good as a Deluxe. You can take a riverboat ferry to DTD. The pools are never crowded. You can rent a surrey bike. The Counter service resturants are pretty good, and so are the Table service resturants. There is a bonfire at nite at both resorts. Walking distance between the two is really easy, plus it is along the river. Me and my dh walked the walkway lots of times. When one bus would be full, we would hop on the other bus at the parks and when we got back to the resort, we would just walk back to our room. Both resorts are not spread out to far, plus there are at least 3 pick up areas for busses at POFQ and 3 at POR. I don't think we even spent 15 minutes on a bus going to the parks, plus we never waited long for a bus. We were there during Easter week and when we were at our resort, you would never have known it was Peak Season.

I think you will really like POFQ, give it a chance.

POR is a beautiful, very relaxing resort. The grounds, IMO, are breathtaking. As to the ADR's, how many guests in your party? You may be able to get walk-up ressies, except possibly for CRT. We were able to do this several times after being told the same day on the phone that the restaurant we wanted was fully booked and no ressies available. Besides that, there's the possiblity that other gsts may be switching dates to take advantage of codes or cx dining ressies. Calling back is a great option. I think once you're there and enjoying the DDP, you'll be glad you made your decision.---Kathy

Thanks, Eveyone!!! You definitely made me feel much better about my change
Just hearing that the bus ride is not very long was a great relief to me...and a bonfire everynight?? How cool is that??
And, of course, I will continue to call regarding dining ressies...It's just stressful to know your vacation was all set and then, all of a sudden, you are jumping in trying to rebook everything. I'm that Disney veteran that is on the phone booked from the first moment you can book anything. I'm not good with change LOL
Thanks again...I appreciate all your comments. I'm actually starting to look forward to my trip again  LOL

We stayed at the Poly in May 2007 and POFQ in 2008. We liked both, but for the money, PO FQ wins hands down. Poly was nice, and the monorail is handy for 2 parks, but if you're doing all the parks it's not worth the major $$ difference, IMHO.

POFQ is beautiful, wonderful theming, nice pool, and the whole resort is very compact...farthest building from the busses is less than a 10 minute walk (for a slow, pooh-sized, over-50 person!) I know, because we just stayed there in May, and we were in the furthest building (which we wanted, because we wanted the river view & peace & quiet. It was wonderful.) The bus service was good...every 20 minutes usually. And the boat service to DTD is wonderful (nice relaxing ride, too.)

Try the beignets at the food court...you will be hooked (but don't eat them in a dark-colored outfit...powdered sugar everywhere!)

POFQ is a very small resort and almost any room is close to the bus stop. Also remember the boat ride to DTD. IMO that's a nice perk.

While staying at POFQ, you can walk or boat over to POR. Make a reservation at Boatwrights for a TS meal ! We were all happy with that restaurant, and it should be pretty easy to get a reservation.

We liked it that POR and POFQ are "sister" resorts, We stayed at POFQ, but vistited pool, pool-bar, cane pole fishing etc over at the POR side. Also went to both food courts.

POFQ is "quaint" and very beautiful...check out the resorts board pictures of it (or, on allears website).

If you canceled to save money then you will be happy! If you canceled just so you can get the dining plan? Well thats another story.
