Tell me ALL about the Polynesian!

We stayed at the Poly last Sept, after rescheduling twice due to Ivan. Loved it, almost two vacations in one: Disney and the South Seas. Granted I've never stayed elsewhere at DW, hopefully I'll never have to! The $$$ was definately a stretch for us but I justified it with the logic that the value season price at the Poly was appx. the same as peak season price at a moderate.

Weather is great in late Sept/early Oct, 80-90 daytime, cooler at night. Crowds were non-existant, possibly due to Ivan, rode even the popular rides with no wait. We stayed in Samoa and room was great, no mold issues. Rooms were quite large and comfortable for the 5 of us. Kids loved all the bunnies and lizards on the grounds - only negative was the golfcarts whizzing around at night-they're very quite so they almost run you over before you hear/see them. Watch out!!! Also loved Captain Jacks, had a good variety of reasonably priced and heathy foods, fruit, bagels, yougrt etc. in a very casual setting.

well, I think I know the poly a little better then you think I do....I have stayed there in Concierge! Hawaii!! have you been there? I got ill, I have allergies and I had to go over to the YC and then to the hospital due to an asthma attack due to the mold at the poly for which I am allergic to. I am well aware of tikimans page, I been on this boards since 1997/8, so I am WELL aware of what is going on. thanks~
ps...I have some pictues on my link...bottom right!

First off I'm sorry to hear anyone has to go to hospital on vacation. :sad2:
With all of this experience being on this board and being so well aware of Tikiman's page, my question is why did you write such a inaccurate post? Brady Bunch style, Tacky, etc. I thought you were just not aware of the facts concerning the resort. I now see you're letting the fact that you got sick overshadow the truth. I understand the reason now for you wanting to tear the Polynesian down. Hate the Poly all you like but you should never give a dishonest review because of your bias. It's unfair to the original OP who asked the question.

Thanks for the class warfare comment on the Concierge service. No I haven't stayed in the Hawaii building so I guess I better not talk about the Poly anymore. I guess poor white trash like me better stay at one of the value resorts and not answer anymore questions about the Polynesian. I have learned my proper place and I'm off to All Star Movie resort where my kind belong. :moped: My mom always told me money can't buy class or manners and I see now she was right. :rotfl2:

it is not "dishonest" it's the truth....it is TACKY! nitey nite,,,,, :earboy2:

Disneyfan67, have you encountered any mold problems at the Poly? I hope not because I love the South Sea theme, and I really want to stay there. DH and I have spent years riding the monorail and staring longingly at the Poly.

Hey Disneyfan  where near Chicago are you located?...I'm from the burbs of Chicago :flower: myself. Grayslake to be exact...right by Six Flags! I am soooo drawn to the Poly...I'm hoping to convince Dh to stay there next year!!

This will be my third time since Oct 2002 and I have never seen or smelled mold in any of the rooms I've stayed in. The only time I've switched rooms was because I wanted to be closer to the GCH.

I have worked for janitorial and carpet companies for years and at this time I currently own my own cleaning business. I'm telling you this, so you will know that I know a thing or two about cleaning and mold build up. I would never sell or push the Polynesian on anyone just because I'm a loyal fan. I feel that the Poly is a very clean hotel and I have seen my share of dirty ones because of the carpet cleaning I do. I cleaned some drapes and carpet in hotel by a major chain in my area and if you would have seen how bad the condition they were in, you would have screamed! :scared1:

GoofyinNY, try the Poly just once and see for yourself how great it is. Remember people, this is Florida and the hot and humid weather is perfect conditions for mold to grow. I'll bet that the Poly isn't the only one to have a case of mold or mildew once in a while. When I was there in Febuary 04 the CM who checked me in, told me that they were redoing the longhouses from top to bottom and I saw the same thing on Tikiman's website also. If you see it call the front desk right away and I'm sure it will be taken care of. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions. :earboy2:

Hi Sara, I'm in the Waukegan/BeachPark area and I have worked at Six Flags when I was a teen. What a dump it is compared to WDW. You have good taste to be drawn in by the Poly and tell your DH it's worth every penny, I guarantee it! It's a great place and even though it's a lot of money compared to other resorts I feel it's worth it. I just stay in a garden view room due to cost and feel it's just fine. If some on this board don't like the place and feel it's tacky or whatever that's a good thing because it means more room for me! I'll save you a chair by the volcano pool, Sara and hope to see you there! Feel free to PM me if you wish! :moped:

If I had my choice of any resort, money not being a factor, it would be the Poly hands down. I love it. The location, theme, monorail, being able to see the MK, the pool is great. You feel like you are in the middle of it all,...all the time. Not very good with words this early in the AM :) and we are planning another trip back to the Poly in June. But....................

There are a some things you need to be watchful of no matter how much you love the Poly

Yes, some rooms do smell. If you get one, just ask to be moved. I read about this before I went last year for our first trip and when we got room 1002 in the Tahiti (sp) building, wow, did it smell ! But with the rehabs going on maybe this will be a thing of the past.

If you are picky about your "garden view" that you are paying $235.00 a night for, don't let anybody tell you how great it is and how you should be thankful just to be at Disney. When we were in that room 1002 last July, not only did the smell kind of make you feel Yuk!, but when we opened the curtins, we could not even see out of our room. The bushes were really high, and for someone wanting a private moment while standing on your patio, this was the room for them. I will not mention the word I called it in fear of starting a riot, but we asked to be moved to Fiji and WE LOVED IT !

Some CM's are rude, and do not know what they are doing, I just hope you do not get one of them.

Some people are not lucky enough to have a perfect stay everytime. There are the few of us who get the smelly room, the dirty sheets and the rude CM at Check in. :sunny:

Thanks for the reply Disneyfan67. I'm definitely going to the Poly. If there is a problem, we will change rooms. Actually, I have read posts about people encountering mold problems (not often, but from time to time) at Disney and non-Disney hotels. It's definitely the heat and humidity.

I love the Polynesian. I think the hotel is beautiful and well maintained. It feels like a true retreat after a long day at the parks. I don't like to stay anywhere else. We have stayed there at least 5 times in the last 5 years and have never had a bad room, smell, dirty etc. You will be happy with your choice. I think it is a great location for an anniversery celebration.

I also love the poly we are headed back this May, stayed there for the first time last May. We've never had any problems with any mold/smells, and have joined the group of folks who say they can't imagine staying anywhere else. The location is the absolute best and all the vegitation and theming make staying there a vacation in itself. It's very relaxing, enjoy!!
