tell me about your mp3 player

So, I am thinking that I would LOVE an MP3 player. I currently carry cds with me wherever I go. That sucks. LOL

I have an almost eight year old boy that also loves music and I am thinking it would be great to have all his cds on one especially for car trips! We listen to the same music in general (lol but he is a kid, as soon as someone tells him it is not cool to listen to Tapestry of Dreams he might change his attitude!)

Anyway, so tell me the pros and cons of MP3 players.... What kind you have... and the bottom line, price (cause that is ALWAYS important!)

i have a creative zen stone plus, which i LOVE. it is TINY, has 4 GB capacity and the sound is amazing. it was less than $50 and very easy to use. i wanted one for my DD's birthday next week and couldn't find one anywhere, even online, so i bought a philips at wal-mart for 39.88. i think it's called a go vibe, and it also has 4 GB. i'm hoping it's as easy to use as my zen.

the ONLY thing i don't like about my zen is it has no battery-you charge it by connecting it to the computer.

I have 3 iPods: a 30gb photo, a 4gb pink nano, and a 1gb silver shuffle. I think iPods are the best thing out there. I got my first iPod back in the day for the exact same reason you're looking to get one, and I never looked back.

Right now, I use my iPhone to work out with and use an iPod nano in the car (I have a dock and run an input line from the dock to the aux input in the stereo). The iPhone is a 32GB and the nano is a 16GB; I have mainly video and WDW Today podcasts on my iPhone and the bulk of my music library on my nano. I love love LOVE both and couldn't recommend either highly enough (though I could say the same for all iPods, really...a pink iPod mini was my first iPod, and I only bought it because it was little and cute and pink and I was depressed because my job had just given me notice that I'd be laid off in 3 months...GRR. From there I went to a 30GB iPod Photo, which I currently use on my iHome alarm clock, a 30GB iPod Video, a 60 GB iPod Classic, a 1st-generation iPod Touch, a 2nd-gen iPod Touch, and then onto my current setup. All have been extremely reliable and very user-friendly; I just always kept getting new ones because I'm a gadget junkie and love to get the latest one possible. )

I know there are cheaper ones out there, but my only experience is with iPods, and I've loved them all. If you don't want the absolute latest model, you can often find minis and the like on ebay for pretty cheap; just be sure to read ALL of the auction's description to see exactly what kind of condition they're in!

And if you do want the latest model, the new nanos (just released 2 days ago) have built-in FM radios with live pause capability and built-in pedometers so you can keep track of your workouts right on the device. I'm pretty flippin' psyched about them, actually.

I still use my five-year-old iRiver h320. It's kinda clunky by today's standards, but it has a 20gb hard drive, FM tuning, audio recorder, video player, ability to play audio saved in about any format, photo album, document reader, can be used as a external hard drive, can be used as a host device to do things like pull pics off a camera via USB without the use of a computer. The hard drive is upgradable to 80gb and the battery is replacable.

Having the h320 is sort of like driving my Jeep. There are some awfully cool alternatives out there, but mine is just too great to replace.

My MP3 player is my phone.

I needed a new cellphone at the same time that I wanted a new MP3 player, so I combined the 2 and bought a Nokia XpressMusic phone. It is very easy to use, has 2 MB of storage (expandable with an added memory card), has good sound, and - best of all - means I only carry 1 device everywhere with me instead of 2. I can make playlists, and can use my stored music for ringtones. It would have originally been a $250 phone, but I got it for $50 because I had a cellphone update coming to me.

I have dealt with iPods before and DID NOT like them. I didn't like how exclusive they were (could only use iTunes, could only be "sync'd" to one computer, etc) and how hard they seemed to be to use. JMHO. My phone uses a "drag and drop" system. I plug it in, open a folder on the phone, open my "music" folder on my computer, and simply copy and paste things into the phone's folder. Easy-peasy. No special programming required, and I can plug it in to anyone's computer anywhere with no ill effects. This was nice when I was visiting my brother across the country and wanted a few songs that he had and I didn't.

DH and I both have Zunes. His is the 30GB, mine is 120GB. Both have video screens- we can download movies and other video/still pictures to watch on them in addition to music. We subscribe to ZunePass- we can download unlimited numbers of songs for a monthly fee. We both love our Zunes- we are a Microsoft family, not Apple folks. Loading music and video is a snap through Zune Marketplace, or Windows Media player.

DD has several MP3 players (some bought for her, some inherited). She started out with a Disney Mix Stik, went to a Disney Mix Max, and also has a Sansa 2GB. They are all easy to use, but the Mix Stik has no screen. No way to pinpoint exactly what she wants to hear- she has to ff through songs to find a particular one. The Mix Max is great for kids, and you can purchase preloaded cards with music or movies on them that you just plug into the player.

We are probably going to upgrade DD to a Zune- she wants one of the new Zune HD players. They are really cool- HD radio, wi-fi, lots of apps, and touch screen technology.

That is one of the big reasons that I prefer my iRiver h320 to my wife's ipod. Managing my music and videos is much easier.

I have the 120gb Zune too - I LOVE it. I'm definitely a Microsoft person as well, not an Apple person. My fiance bought it for me for my birthday last year, so I'm not sure how much it was, but I believe it was around $200. I've also got the arm band so I can use it when I work out and the FM transmitter so I can listen to it in the car. The Zune Pass is GREAT - $14.99 a month and you get unlimited music downloads. No complaints with anything so far, and I've had it for about a year and a half.

I have 2 Sandisk , Sansa , Rca,Ilo, and nexatar Mp3 player.

I have Samsung A737 mp3 player phone.

I love love my 2 Sandisk and Sansa. They play great and they is easy to use. Plus got 2 off woot.com and one off buy.com. RCA is okay but now really want a Sansa now because it easier to use. I like Ilo player because it runs by battery and plays great. That one take on the bus trip with me.

I currently have a Creative Zen Vision W. It has a 30gb hard drive, FM radio tuner, compact flash card slot so you can upload pictures to it, a microphone, 4.3 inch widescreen for watching video and an A/V out port for plugging into a TV.

Plus it is easy to transfer files onto it. You can either use the Creative Media Source program that comes with it or simply plug into any XP or Vista computer and it reads as an external drive so you can just copy and paste.

Unfortunately Creative doesn't make them anymore. But they may have something similar. Creative has alot of MP3 products.

I have an ipod nano (3rd gen) and my daughter has a 4th gen nano. Love them. We've had other brands of mp3 players (Zune, Sansa, and various no name brands) and they just broke. Ipods are more difficult to manage, but they are far more sturdy than the other mp3 players we've tried.
