A friend of mine keeps trying to get me to go for headache prevention. I hear good things and bad things. Tell me about your experiences with the chiropractor....I want to know :)

Chiro cured my daughter when she was little 5 or 6 of recurrent sinus infections. I happend to be working a the chiro office part time so I began to have her adjusted daily just a a preventative and good health measure. I noticed that after having one after another sinus infections for the previous 2 years and being on antibiotics for 6 weeks at a stretch only to be healthy for about a week and then relapse, after being adjusted on a regular basis, she really became healthy and from that point on instead of being sick 20 time a year went down to about 2 times a year. Even when she had a fever I brought her in twice a day to be adjusted and the next day she was better. Only thing is that I would not leave your regular MD I would use both Drs together. My reasoning is that your md may spot other things wrong that your chiro may not be aware of IMHO. (Just my opinion, not particularly fact)

I went for a couple of years for back pain and headaches. While it felt good to have my neck and back adjusted, I don't think it did me a lick of good. For me it was a HUGE waste of $$$$ but I know some people who swear by it. I don't think they are dangerous or bad but chiros are not for me.

I truly believe it depends on the chiropractor. Being in the medical field for almost 20 years, I was "old school" that chiropractors were bad. I had heard horror stories of those who did not know what they were doing and could have caused permanent damage. However, I met one during my course of medical sales and developed a trust in her. During a lunch meeting I shared with her that I can't stand the thought of someone "cracking my bones". She said, "You don't have to have that". And she was right!

She is awesome! Instead of popping my back, she just gives what I would term "deep tissue massage and movement" (no popping at all) and have found it as an enormous help. Also, she can get rid of my migraines within minutes. She rocks! :cheer2:

I love my chiro. Don't know what I would do without him. he doesn't help much with migraines though.. I take meds for those. (well shouldnt' really discount him totally as I am sure he HELPS with them- just didn't totally cure them).
Really helps with my neck and back pain.

Both DH & I have had very good experiences with chiroprators...he for a back problem and me for a neck problem.

It is a bit disconcerting when they "crack" your bones for the first couple of times, but the aftereffect of decerased pain, increased mobility etc. is well worth it.

I used to work for a chiropractor and started having adjustments there for back and neck discomfort. I have since left his office (left on bad terms) so I went to another chiropractor to continue treatment. I don't go on a regular basis since my insurance only started covering treatment recently.

I don't get migraines, but I do get headaches associated with neck misalignment. The headaches are mostly either at the base of my head/upper cervical area or across my forehead and eyes. Occasionally it will the whole right side or left side of my head. The adjustments get rid of the pain almost immediately.

just for the record....chiropractors don't like the term "cracking your bones" a "cracked bone" is a fracture...the term they use is "adjusting your spine" ;)

My DH uses a chiro for back pain and stiffness sometimes. His chiro doesn't "crack your back" or whatever you call it. He uses a little clicker thing instead and my DH says it's wonderful. He's gone from not being able to walk in the door to walking out straight up 15 mins later.

They have their place and I still go when I have problems but I will no longer let them adjust my neck. It seems to me that the herniated disks I have may have been caused by that since I was not in a car accident. Also, my husband, who uses the same dr has herniated disks and no car accident either.

When I was pregnant with my first DD, I had so much back pain I was literally crawling around the house to relieve the pressure on my back. Finally (at about 8 mos) I went to a chiropractor and he got rid of all my back pain. With DD2 (6 years later) I had chiro adjustments throughout the pregnancy and it was a breeze. I am a big believer.

you don't need to be in an accident to have herniated discs

I used a chiropractor that used to be a Physical Therapist, so he had a big PT background (and sports medicine). I tended to stay away from the chiros that had the "new age" type of practices.

Anyway, if your headaches are caused by muscular or skeletal problems, it will probably work. If they are caused by hormones, diet, or medications, it probably won't work.
