We just returned last week from a RCI Western Caribbean cruise--it was the best vacation we've taken to date!:boat: :sunny:

Compulsive planner that I am (gee, I'm sure none of you can relate to that:rolleyes: ), I'm already trying to think of what to do for next year. We've done three cruises in the last four years, so we're kind of "cruised out," and have a short WDW trip planned for Oct. during ds8's Fall Break. We're looking for a land-based beachy vacation this time around. I think I've narrowed it down to Turks & Caicos, Hawaii or San Diego ( I :lovestruc California and have never been to SD--I've heard it's a great city!), but am open to any and all ideas!

Tell me about your favorite (GASP!) non-Disney vacation destination!

My DH and I went to Williamsburg for our first anniversary. We had a blast. Loved going to the taverns, went to a mock witch trial which was SO cool, shopping, went on a ghost tour. Loved it!! Can not wait to go back. I think that may have been our last non Disney vacation.:teeth:

Week long honeymoon at the Hyatt in the Cayman Islands. It was incredibly beautiful there, and everyone was so nice.

I've never had a bad vacation.

Before kids... Our best non-Disney trip was our 1 week Western Caribbean cruise. We also really enjoyed our Washington DC trip.

Since the kids...our favorite non-Disney family vacation was probably Wildwood Crest, NJ.

Probably an RV trip we took to the Smokies in the late 80's. We came back, humming Rocky Top for weeks. We still talk about the great time we had on that trip.

Sandals Dunns River Falls in Jamaica...2 couples, no kids, pure heaven!

I went on a singles cruise to Bermuda that I will NEVER forget!!

...what happened on the ship, STAYS on the ship..... :p

Best no kids vacation- 10 days in France with just my DH.

Best Family vacation(there are so many great ones it's hard to choose)- Colorado in the summer- white water rafting, hiking with llamas to carry our lunch, relaxing.

We have taken quite a few non Disney vacations. I would say that our two trips to Hawaii, (Maui, Oahu, Kauai and the Big Island) rank at the top followed closely by a nine day San Francisco, to Napa, to Tahoe, to Yosemite, Cambria, San Simeon, Big Sur, Monterey and all points in between before flying out of San Francisco. I also love S.California, Anaheim and San Diego. but we threw Disney in there. I loved Disneyland and DCA. We are headed back to Hawaii this summer.

My vote would be for Maui/Oahu. My husband and I went last winter and had such a great time that we are going back again in 2005!

My trip to Las Vegas 2 years ago. There is so much more to do in Vegas other than gamble. I loved the helicopter flight to the Grand Canyon and going indoor skydiving. Plus I loved just looking at the theaming in the different hotels. The fact that we stayed in the Venetian and were given a free upgrade to a high roller suite when we checked in did help though!!

Mine is a toss up between 2 weeks in the Canadian Rockies (Banff, Jasper, then back west to BC) or 10 days in the British Virgin Islands, at a resort that you could only get to by boat!!!

NYC is my fave American city to visit... I'm a big city person, I don't enjoy the week on the beach or week in the cabin bit. You know?

Washington DC is also incredible!!!!

Love Vegas but it's only a weekend trip for us.

San Francisco is on my must-visit list for sure. I went to LA, Anaheim, etc a few years ago and was not impressed... Loved DL and DCA, but other than that... so I want to give CA another try. Hawaii would rock! So much to do! My BF married a Hawaiien, and I love seeing all his pics =)

We just back from a week-long trip to the the Outer Banks (NC). It was the best vacation I've ever been on! Very relaxing, beautiful ocean views from our rental home on the beach, and nothing to do all day except walk on the beach, read, swim in our private pool, and relax!!

We stayed in the Corolla/Duck area.

Wow Rhonda--thanks for the link! What a pretty area!:sunny:

My dad was working on a job site last summer in Central Washington (Wenatchee). At the end of the job there was still time left before my sis and I went back to school so he had mom put the 2 of us on a plane. We flew from NH to Seattle (a big deal for small town kids that had never been west of the East Coast), and met him at the airport. We drove home with him. We drove through the Cascades, Bitteroots, Rockies, and went to Yellowstone and the Tetons. Seeing all the stuff that's so different from home (crop circles, windmills, double decker trains, etc) was the coolest thing. We spent most of the time driving and not "sight seeing" but IMO we still saw a ton of sites.
Our trips to the Berkshires in Mass have been pretty great too.
