What's all the fuss about this particular brand of candle? I read all about them on the CB, and before that I never heard of them. At this time in my life, with two small boys, I am not doing any kind of open flaming, but boy, you guys LOVE your Yankee Candles!!

Are they the kind that you buy from a "Tupperware" type party? Or is there a chain of stores? (I am assuming you can't get them at WalMart.)

Would love to hear what you like about them, your favorite flavors, etc. Educate me...

They are really good smelling candles. They are pretty high quality and burn well. They also come in a variety of scents, more than many other brands.

Personally, I love them but have a hard time spending that much on candles (the large ones can be around $18) when the $5 one from Wal Mart are the same size and IMO, smell just as strong; just not as many scents.

But I can totally see why they are popular.

We don't have Yankee Candle stores here, but if you have a Hallmark store where you live, they may have them there.

The candles are expensive, but of good quality with a variety of different smells. Never heard of a Yankee Candle like party, but have heard of Partylite.

I have some Yankee Candles that I have gotten as gifts...and love them....just can't bring myself to buy them as they are a little pricey. We have a store near us and the girls and I go in just to sniff all the smells! We take turns sniffing the votives and trying to guess the smell....I know, I know...it's a little weird!

They are the best!!
I have tried MANY candles and these are by far the best smelling, longest latest ones.
Great variety of scents....always new ones coming out.
They are pricey, but they do have specials......one fragrance is always the "scent of the month" and is 25% off.
they have clearance sales often too.
check out their website....if is a fun place to look....but you need to go somewhere to really do the sniff test ;)

mmm Pineapple Paradise is my fave scent. I usually buy the car freshener. Though I did buy the big candle. They can be pricey.

My wife started buying Yankee Candles and I have to say, they are very nice. My favorite is Christmas Eve which we burn around the holidays, but their fruit scents are great too (honeydew melon, vineyard, coconut, peach). We are lucky enough to live in close proximity to their home in Massachusetts. The store is themed also with a Bavarian forest, Santa's workshop, and a candle making area. We try to make it there once a year.

Not weird at all, Ibelieveinfairies! I do the same thing, with EVERYTHING! Some scents give me a headache, so whenever I buy anything with a smell to it, I open it up and give it a whiff! One time, I was smelling some lotion, and to get the scent to come out of the bottle, I gave it a little squeeze. The lotion squirted right out onto my nose!! I don't do that any more..

I haven't seen them anywhere, I guess I will have to look a little harder. Since I can't actually burn candles around my boys, I bought a candle warmer-it looks like one of those things to keep your coffee cup warm-probably the exact same thing with a different name.. I have put a couple of candles in a glass container on it, and it just melts the whole candle-not really giving off a lot of scent. Maybe it's the cheap candle, or maybe it just doesn't do the same as burning it. I'm not sure it's much safer, having melted wax around, but at least it's not an open flame.

And since DH and I were BOTH firebugs when we were kids, I guess I won't be burning any candles until they leave for college!

I love Yankee Candles. I got the candle bug after reading about them here. Now I have a bunch. I've only bought a couple full price. The other have been on sale. I got a great bargain once, after Christmas when some store had Christmas cookie on sale for $5 for the large jar.

I have mostly large jars, votives and tarts. Now my daughters (9 and almost 6) are getting into the scents. We were at the mall the other day and we went to a Hallmark store. We sampled all the different scents and I let each girl pick out two tart to bring home. My younger one is upset that we are going to melt her scent. She wants to keep it.

Another Yankee fan here. Love Coconut Bay- it is my FAVORITE and then they discontinued it. I also love Pineapple Paradise, Ocean Water and Sunwashed Linen...Apple is good as well, as well as some of the Christmas scents. Some are rated insta-headache for me, as I am sensitive to some smells and get headaches easily (esp now being pregnant). I think the smaller jars are $15 and the larger ones are $18, but you can get votives for $1 or so, or the very small jars for $8. As others have mentioned, most likely your Hallmark store carries some, or if you have a Bed, Bath and Beyond or Linens and Things, they are likely to have a big line of them as well. And every month a scent is put on sale- I think Sept is Macintosh Apple. Yum.

I LOVE these candles....ans so does DH. We burn one nightlly-the scents are very different than regular scented candles-foods & spices rather than sickly sweet flowers.

Also can buy them at Cracker Barrel Country stores, Bed bath and beyond, and Linens and things....and some nicer Department Stores.

There's a store in St Louis. Don't know yet if there's one in Omaha. I remember when we would go to the mall (it USED to be so I could go to the Disney Store! :( ) and we would end up there.

Anyway, my wife says ... the Yankee Candles burn longer, they have a better scent, they don't have the black sludge problem (whatever that means) and they don't develop holes in the sides from uneven burning (don't ask me about that last one either).

Sometimes she drags me in with her, and I walk out wondering how she got me to spend half an hour sniffing candles with her. She's sneaky, I gotta admit.

My favorite is the butter scent, and anything tropical.

I love Yankee Candles. We were just at one of their store's up in Frankenmuth, MI on Friday and I bought the new Vanilla Caramel and plan on burning it with an apple scented one. The salesgirl said when they are burned at the same time it smells like a candy apple. She also suggested pineapple and coconut..smells like a pina colada!

Yankee Candles are by far the best candles. Alot of candles smell really good when you pick them up at a store. But once you get it home and burn it, there is no smell or very little. What you smell when you pick up a YC is what you will smell through out your house when you burn it. They are great!!

also, you can put a YC jar candle on the electric warmer and you will get the same smell through out your house. It will melt but then harden when you turn it off.

Opps, forgot to add that Christmas Cookie is my fav.

:D Gotta love Yankee Candles!! They are the best and they DO last a long time. I just got some on clearance at Linens N Things yesterday...the medium jar candles for $8. Pansy scent I think - pretty nice. I usually go for the "Fall" and "Christmas" scents all year long. My girls could stay in that store ALL DAY LONG sniffing candles!

Harvest is the best!!!!! I burn it all year round. I have a ton of them but this month Harvest is the "candle of the month" so it's on sale for $14.99 (for the large one). I got it at Bed, Bath and Beyond and used my $5 off coupon so I got it for $9.99.... not too shabby!!!!

Had a look at the link that jipsy posted .. they are very similar to partylite are`nt they... I love partylite but find them very expensive... Although i have a friend who is a hostess, & and am fortunate enough to recieve really nice gifts on birthdays & christmas:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc Only thing is i always have trouble finding something really nice to send her as a gift:(

I love, love Yankee Candles.. I think I have an addiction. :teeth: Was just there yesterday to get more tarts and a more fall type scent than what I'm burning in the living room now. I picked up caramel pecan which smells great! I'm burning a white zinfandel tart in the kitchen now and it smells wonderful as well. I would say my favorite is the carrot cake that they had as a limited edition a few years ago. I stocked up but haven't broken down and burned any of my stash yet. :) My favorite for Christmas is Christmas Eve and the Christmas Cookie. The scents to me are way more strong than any other candle and they last longer. Parrothead1964's wife was right on all counts about why they are better.
