tell me about "walking"

So we booked June 23 for our first visit ever to Disneyland. I booked cash at PP and want to use points at GC but my window isn't open yet. I read about walking so how does it work? Can I go ahead and book at soonest date then modify daily moving the reservation one day forward? Or will it even work with the 7 month window. TIA!

Walking doesn’t really work the same way at 7 months since an owner can come in and book a date and stop the walk.

You can certainly try if you see the number of nights available and then keep moving it.

I tried one at 7 months to do it, and it was blocked when a day disappeared so I haven’t really tried again

Yes, you can try it. It may help you get a room before other non owners. I did it successfully on one occasion, but only because an owner didn't block me before the 7 month window.

It will be tough, you cannot walk it into the future past the 7 month mark, without a current reservation. Hopefully the new DL tower helps with the VGC availability in the future.

A 7 month walk is extremely unlikely at Grand Cal unless you're looking for two nights midweek in a 1 bedroom.

Update: I was able to get the 2 of the nights I wanted on our last 2 days but I had to book a 2 bedroom for my DVC part, booked cash for the first 2 nights. Either way, super happy! Our first stay will be so much better not having to move resorts and having the 2 bedroom at the end means I can wash all my clothes before we fly home. I still have the first 2 nights waitlisted for a 1 and a 2 bedroom but not going to hold my breath lol.

Where are our waitlist gurus? I think if you won’t need to borrow points, you may want to just waitlist both nights as single nights in the 2br. That way if one night comes available you can grab it then possibly grab the other night if it comes available, rather than needing two nights available at once.
