We are staying at the Fort the first week in August. Can any of you experienced campers tell me about Trail's End restaurant? I thought I had read somewhere on the boards that someone had an ADR for the restaurant, but I didn't think they accepted ADRs. Will that be necessary for a party of 6? I am stocking our pop-up for some meals, but I would love the option to come back from the parks after a long, hot day to just eat at TR. (I know myself too well..I don't like cooking at home, let alone on vacation. :) )

Also, about Trail's To Go.... is that a walk-up service, or do you phone in an order? How is the pizza? The chicken? Sounds like a great option to take back to the camper.

We have always done walk-in at TE, if they have changed to ADR I'm sure some one will fill us both in. The to go has to be ordered at the TE no phone ins. The chicken is second to none and the pizza is tasty also, I bring along a pre-made bag of salad and some dressing and with a pizza that is good for 4 adults.

You can do both, ADRs and walk in. When we were there in June, we walked up both times and never had to wait more than 5 minutes. The people before us had reservations, so I know they are taken there.

They have great food; be ready to eat :cool1:

Also, something I didn't know until this last trip to FW...the "Take away Nachos" are REALLY GOOD! They are spicy and have chili and jalapenos all over them (so be aware or order w/o)...but wow, they were soooo good!

Thanks so much for the replies! Sounds like even if ADRs are taken, we won't have trouble walking up. And Denise, you are my kind of cook....bag of salad and take out pizza! We will definitely be doing that a time or two. NACHOS! My family lives on them...and the hotter the better. My oldest DD (15) and her friend will want them every day we are there. I am so glad to have this to go option...pizzas, chicken, nachos...I may be cooking less than I think. :goodvibes

Does Trail's End have a refillable mug? We always get them for souvenirs and we use them at home all the time. I am not really sure they are cost effective this time since we are camping with coolers, but I thought I'd ask.

This is the take out menu from trail's end (pick up only)

The lone rider: two pieces of fried chicken, french fries, coleslaw and a biscuit
Giddyap and go: ten pieces of fried chicken, french fries, coleslaw and biscuits for four
Buffalo chicken strips with blue cheese and celery sticks
nacho chips with beef chili, cheddar cheese and salsa
mixed greens with your choice of dressing
milk shakes
smoothies

I would make an ADR for a party of 6 for sure if its dinner. Lunch, you should be ok. Last august, first week, we walked up for dinner (party of 3) and had an hour wait. We don't mind waiting in the rockers but they were full too. Better to be safe, especially if you're hungry!

Trail's End started taking ADRs a few years back. In my experience, sometimes you can walk in and get into Trail's End within 15 minutes or so, and other times it's over an hour. We've waited well over an hour even though we could see empty tables in exactly the size we needed sitting open. At one point a couple years ago my mother went to the hostess and said "I want that table that has been sitting empty for the last 45 minutes. Please give me a good reason why I cannot have it." We were seated at the table within 2 minutes. I truly think they're a bit poorly managed, which is unusual for a Disney restaurant. I love Trail's End, though, so we go even if we have to wait. I always make ADRs now, though.

Yes they do have the refill mugs.

I think the necessity of ADR's depends a lot on the season and the time you want to eat. We generally eat dinner early and have never really needed the ADR's we now make every time. An hour and a half later, there were people standing outside waiting.

Refillable mugs are now the generic resort mugs, so I'm not sure how much of a souvenier it will be.

If you don't have an ADR you risk having a long wait--but you might not have a wait at all. We ate there on my birthday a few weeks ago and were early for lunch with no ADR and didn't have a wait at all. And we asked for Ken's table (the best server at Disney!!!) and got it! That made my day extra special!!

Tomorrow (July 6th) is Ken's 30th anniversary working at WDW! Congrats, Ken!!!

Isn't ken the best! we asked for him and got him the other day for lunch and he told me about his 30th. I got his schedule so i know what days to go next month. he said he's off wed. and thurs. but working the other days of the week. He said not many people can say they look forward to getting up every day and going to work but he does, which is so great.

If the refillable mugs are now a generic resort mug, can you get them filled at any resort? One of my favourite activities at Christmas is touring the other resorts to see the decorations it would be cool to get free refills as I toured.:santa:

Yes, i believe you can. I think thats why they switched to one type. I really miss getting a fort mug and/or resort specific mugs . I have an old dixie landings one.

I read somewhere (can't remember where) that FW mugs were only refillable with milk and coffee but not soft drinks. Anyone confirm?

no, all the usual drinks are still there, even hot chocolate. I noticed this in may and i was also there last week.

Must have been old or wrong info. Thanks!

Do you know how much the mugs are? i can't remember and since we're going to be there for two weeks next month, i am thinking this will be good for me to get my sweet tea. trails end has THE BEST sweet tea!
