Tell me about ToT

been on it twice in Florida.

Once in 2003 and once in 2006 - i went to MGM last year and just done all the pre show stuff then took the chicken exit.

I thought that i was gonna die - hated, hated it.

my life flashed before me - my palms are sweating just writing this.

i would love to go on it in DCA just to say that i have 'done it' but i doubt i will.

i hate that feeling in my stomach.

i think the second time i went on it - i almost stood up - to try and stop that felling of being 'dropped.'

I HATE HATE HATE this ride. I've been on it twice at DCA and once at MGM at Disneyworld.

I think part of the reason it is so horrible is that I don't know exactly when the drops are comming. The doors open up and the ride vehicle bounces slightly until it drops us. My hands are sweating just thinking about it.

The first time I went on it...I had my head buried in what I thought was my husbands shoulder. It was the strange man on the other side of me. I was too scared to even scream. I thought I was going to pass out actually.

The second time (a year or so later) I decided to give it another shot. Hated it just as much.

The third time was at MGM last month. I wanted to go on it for two reasons, it's slightly different than the one at DCA and has an added scene...and because my husband loves it. I hated it almost as much as the one at DCA. They have handles between the seats to hold onto...but I couldn't hold the one on my right because there was a large woman's behind covering it. When I wasn't holding my breath, I was screaming at the top of my lungs and/or yelling "I hate this!!!"

All three times when we got off I had to sit down because my legs were shaking so much. I do NOT like the feeling of being pulled to the ground. I don't like that my stomach ends up in my throat. I don't like it at all.

So far it is the only Disney ride that I truly do not like (although I have yet to ride the Death Wheel (sun wheel) or the maliboomer.) California Screamin', Rock N Rollercoaster, Expedition Everest....those I can handle. This one...not so much.

we feel the same about TOT!

a fellow Disner who hates it just as much as me!

I grabbed on to the woman arm who was sitting next to me - i was on my own and i couldn't help but do it!
she must have thought that i was nutz!! :lmao:

I personally say give it a try. You may find you like this one or you may hate it. You'll never know if you don't try.

The TOT has special meaning to our family and it's a ride we all love. The first time we went to DCA, we were chosen as the first family to ride and we had the entire experience to ourselves. It was totally amazing and my kids want to go back so they can ride it again. There are 2 small handles you can hold onto but if you don't, you do catch some air. The first time we rode it, my lanyard started floating for a moment.

I chickened out last year. I went through the FP line, so the stuff leading up to it's great but once I got on the elevator, buckled my seatbelt I knew I couldn't go through with it. VERY thankful I didn't considering I just find out now I have heart issues as it is.

Sorry but :rotfl: had to LOL!!! I've gotta ask -- what was the strange man's reaction? :lmao:

TOT is one of those rides that I could take or leave. I like the one in WDW better because of the extra scene. What I notice with this ride is I'm alright if I sit in the back row. If I sit in the front row, I feel like I am too close to the wall when it starts bouncing up and down, and it does something to my vision. Then I get that dizzy, sick feeling. Weird, huh? The drop isn't a problem for me. My son hated the drop when we first started riding it, but now he doesn't mind riding it. I think it it's take it or leave it kind of ride for us both. DH wouldn't touch it w/ a 10 foot pole!:rotfl:

Thanks for all the responses!

From what I've heard, the story, pre-film, themeing, ect. scares the little ones more than the drop does.

See, I didn't even think about this! I didn't know there's a whole "story" to it, and it sounds like that part would scare her more than anything!

So I guess I'd have to ride it alone, since DH or I will wait with our DD. Maybe I'll let him go first and see what he thinks! :)

I like ToT, but will not go anywhere near Maliboomer or any open drop type ride.

Oh, I went on the open drop ride at the top of the Stratosphere in Las Vegas! :scared1: Nevermind that that was in my college days and I was probably drunk when I did it, but still! I survived, and I actually liked it. :) I just remember the view of the strip and all the lights from that high up was awesome!

i don't think even even noticed. it was some gay dude that was screaming and having a good time. as soon as i realized my husband was on the other side, i moved...haha.

I wonder if there's a way to bypass that room? If one could ask to go through some other way. I read a few weeks ago that one can ask to go onto HM without being on the stretching room, so I wonder if there's a backway into the proper part of TOT.

Mrs Bee I'm so sorry you had such a horrible experience each time! Your post reminds me of another question I had about the ride.

I *thought* that both ToTs had the random sequence of drops. Thought it so much so that I really felt that there was a big difference in the ride experience from the first time to the second time, both at DCA. But I've since read that the one in DCA isn't different from ride to ride (though I think it still is at WDW).

Is that true? If so, talk about power of suggestion by my own brain, thinking that the drops were so different from one time to the next! :rotfl:

I think CA's TOT is not random, all six elevators do the same thing. It's so much fun it really doesn't matter!

I know for a fact that WDW's is random.

Both times I went on it at DCA the drop sequences felt different to me. I felt like one time had a longer drop than the other. And the one time had littler drops. But I also read that is it NOT random. So maybe my mind was playing tricks on me too (and it was a year or so between the times I rode it.)

I LOVED this ride. I can not wait to go on it again in October! My DS (who was 8 at the time & loves this kind of thing) went on it with me & clung to his seat the entire time. Poor kid! He told me that he was really "suprized" by how intense it was. The plan was that he would ride with me while my DH waited outside with our DD (who was 5 at the time & didn't want any part of the ToT) . Then he would ride again with my DH. No go! He wasn't going back on at all that trip. That being said....there was a little one on the ride with us that couldn't have been more than 4....she had ridden it many times (according to her) & it was her favourite ride. I guess it varies from child to child.
I guess it wasn't all that bad though because I just asked him if he will ride it again in October & he said he would. DD said that she wants to try it this time as well! lol

COunt me as another who HATES ToT!!!! <shudder> Took my 2 DS (11 and 8 at the time) on it last year and the older one was like me, "didn't like that much, mom" (understatement of the year!!!). The younger one's reaction? "BEST RIDE E-VAH!!!!!!!"

I've done TT at both WDW and DL. I love it
I too, am one that does not like the open drops, but inside, I feel secure. It is very thrilling though.:goodvibes
I may miss it this trip, my DD has never road it (she's 27) Last trip she was preggers, trip before, she stayed back with DS... I think she still may avoid it,she hates the drops, and I don't think I can convince my Grandson(6) to go on with me.

My 3 year old DD rode it with me last visit and loved it. She keeps talking about it and she can't wait to ride it again in a couple of weeks!

Go for it, it's great fun!
