Tell me about the ribs...

I second or third? the whispering canyon. <3  <3

We werent planning on going there but....

We are on Quickservice dining but our first day is OP so we were going to do Ohana and we were also going to throw in 1 or 2 TS during the week...

Wasnt going to do Whispering canyon because it was at a resort (and not our resort) but if it is that good...maybe

I love bbq!!! I have my smoker running right now! Here are a few pics of my wares.

I hope this gives me some dis cred for bbq. :thumbsup2

I do not recall any ribs being sauced before sale to customer. I only recall having ribs at Flame Tree in AK and Cosmic Rays in MK. Flame Tree has a sweet bbq sauce and a mustard base bbq sauce that you can get after you purchase your ribs. The mustard base will have more of a vinegar taste to it.

As far as the rubs, I do not recall if they are sweet. Some rubs have brown sugar and some do not. Personally speaking, I do not pick up much of a sweet taste when brown sugar is used in rubs.

But seeing is believing. Here is a link for food pics at Disney. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1601839 They are a few years old but I would think the pics should be close to what is still served. Show some of the pics to your husband and see what he thinks.

This thread got me thinking. Our flight home is during dinner, and I didn't have an ADR for lunch that day, figuring we would wing it. Being free dining and all, and not wanting to head to the airport on empty stomachs, I just booked "lunner", (that is the meal between lunch and dinner the way brunch is the meal between breakfast and dinner!) at Whispering Canyon. Not sure if the food will be the best, but the ribs are getting good reviews here, and at a minimum, we will be filled up for our flight home!

I had the ribs at Sci-fi, and they were awful. I might have to try Whispering Canyon now. Don't worry about going to a different resort for dinner. It's actually quite fun and gives you an idea of what other places you might want to stay at in the future.

Also, if your hubby loves mexican, make sure you try the QS at Epcot. We used 3 QS credits apiece here on our last trip. lol I actually cancelled our TS because the QS was so darn good. The churros are addictive!

Huh? In over 30 dinners at different places in Hawaii, I have never once seen meat on a skewer. It certainly isn't an indigenous cusine technique. Unless, of course, one goes to a Brazilian Steakhouse, where meat on a skewer is the norm. But then, there would be nothing inherently Hawaiian about that as such places can be found anywhere. If one wanted to make a generalization about meat in Hawaii, (which I don't), it would be that 90% of the meat is pork (or wild boar), and the "traditional" cooking method is in an emu.

So why bother to post??? Sorry that you haven't experienced ALL of Hawaii. In the 4years my husband lived there, he ate plenty of meats, not 90% pork. And did experience grilled meats on skewers, not that it really matters. Was helping to paint a picture for the OP, not meet your "view" of Hawaii.

Agree. I went to a University of Hawaii football game in Honolulu and saw plenty of skewed meat on the grills of tail-gaters. I'm guessing that most of the tail-gaters were locals...

So food at a tailgate is supposed to be indicative of a region's cusine? :rotfl2: I saw meat on skewers at Giant's Stadium and Penn State last year. So does that mean that 'Ohana is representative of North Jersey or PA cuisine?
Why post? To correct the notion that 'Ohana presents its food in a traditional Hawaiian way. It is more akin to Churrasco. Nothing wrong with that. But to suggest that waiters walking around with skewers of meat in Hawaii is any more common than in Chicago or Dallas is misleading. If there are a slew of places in Hawaii that are set up like 'Ohana (or, vice versa, actually), I'd love to know what they are.

I am not sure what type they are but I hear that on certain nights Boma has ribs on the buffet! We have eaten there year after year, but never on a rib night:confused3 anyone want to chime in here and let us know how the ribs are at Boma??

Wow I am drooling...will have to show pics to DH later...hmmm then again he might want to buy one of those so maybe I shouldnt show him lol...I guess it isnt so much the rub that bothers DH its when they put BBQ sause one it. I didnt realize that most of the disney places had the sause "on the side"...that is very good to know...he does like NC bbq because it has that vinegar taste (I dont think it but like a sweet BBQ taste...and yes we are happily married lol).

Good to know, stay away from ribs at Sci-fi (we actually might try there just for the coolness factor). You guys are really selling me on this Whispering Canyon...

Mexico Epcot is on our list of QS...probably more then once. We were going to do TS but a lot of the meals our like $25 and we have been to Mexico (hubby lived there for 18 years) and we know real Mexican food and no where in Mexico does it cost $25 a person (well ok maybe at some expensive places but...)...and churros...yummy...we go to a mexican store here a lot and if hubby goes and doesnt bring us home fresh churrios he knows he is in trouble. This sunday he got us ones with strawberry inside...yummy.
