The Contemporary Arcade is probably WDW's best resort hotel arcade. It's very large, has plenty of both old and new style games. For instance, it has the concentric circle mini bowling, air hockey, alligator snout pounding, bug squishing plus all of the new arcade electronic games as well. They give out tickets for play and there is and extensive manned prize booth. Each game is pay per play, so the cash burns up fairly quickly. (Consistent with the rest of the vacation, right?)
My kids are 12 and 8. I would not have a real problem leaving them for half hour intervals (at most), because my 12-year-old has a pretty good head on his shoulders and would stay with his brother. However, I usually just hang out or read the newspaper at the snack bar right outside the arcade door, which I think is among the better resort fast food set ups.
Obviously, I have quite an investment at that arcade. Next to Disney Quest, it is the kid's favorite arcade in WDW.
I like the Contemporary. I think the value relative to other deluxe resorts is very good. I think it's pretty on target for kids.
Have fun,
