I live in NJ too and while jobs are tight, there are jobs available every year. My district always has positions each summer, but we're urban and many people are not interested in that environment. I'd love a suburban job, but you don't find the turnover that you do in urban areas.

Funny, I'm right near a very urban Southern NJ district and they are not hiring either unless you are bilingual in both English and Spanish. They are requiring all elementary /middle school teacher to be fluent in Spanish and English just for a K to 5 position or a middle school position. Sure, I'd apply there, but my Spanish isn't up to par. I even student taught in this district and I would do it in a heartbeat but no one was getting hired if they didn't have the Spanish.
