We will be staying at SSR for the first time in December. In may we stayed at OKW and loved it!! can anyone tell me about there experiences? likes dislikes?? We got the room from my Boyfriends parents who are DVC members and really know very little about the resort. Anyone got any good pics?? a few questions i had
1 are there washers and dryers in the room?
2 whats the food like? food court or not?
3 anyone been on the golf course? if so how much does it cost and do you have to make reservations?
4. whats a good building to request??

I'm sure i'll have more questions later!!
Thanks in advance!!

go to allears.net for some good pics, look under accommodations. There is many threads out here about SSR try this one http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1329308

I went with just the wife and I and if it was just us again I would go with congress park as it is closest to DTD. DTD has many food options, and the sit down restaurant at SSR was good. I didn't care for the counter service but it was ok in a pinch. The spa and gym at SSR are nice...got a good work out in and hung out in the whirlpool and steam room for a great relaxing time.

Have fun I think you two will love it. Not sure about golf....one of the things we have not done at Disney yet.

1. 1 bdrm, 2 bdrm, and GV's have washer and dryers in the room. There are laundry facilities at every pool area free to use (just pay for soap) for those staying in studios.

2. The food court is the Artist Palette and is pretty good, IMO. I've seen better, I've seen worse - I like the flatbreads they have and the soups. The menu seems to change enough to keep it interesting and it's more than burgers and fries. The TS restaurant is the Turf Club. I ate there once a couple years ago and wasn't wowed by it - but more recent visitors have enjoyed it.

3. Haven't been to the golf course but they're supposed to be really good. Yes you need a tee time and you can find fees on www.disneygolf.com, they even have some specials.

4. Building request depends on who you are traveling with and what you are looking for.

Springs section - closest to main pool, Carriage House (food court & gift shop), Spa, and Community Hall.
Grandstand section - still close to main pool and Carriage house, large quiet pool with kids play area and pool side bar/drink refill station. Frist bus stop and close to walking bridge to DTD west side.
Congress Park - nice water views of DTD, closest to walking trail over to DTD Marketplace, I'm not thrilled with the walk to the Carriage House, not a scenic walk, a littlle longer than from Grandstand. Has a quiet pool looking over DTD.
Paddocks - next longest walk to Carriage House, but there's a great foot bridge taking you there and it's a pleasant walk, has a quiet pool and playground.
Carousel - farthest from Carriage house, shares quiet pool with Paddocks, very quiet location.

I like the Grandstand area - my new fav! Overall I just find SSR very relaxing and laid back. Wonderful muted tones and graceful architecture. Has a community feel to it, not a hotel at all.

Poke around and you'll find lots of pics, reviews, and general opinions!

As #1 and #3 have been covered so well already by other posters, I'll only chime in on the other questions . . .

#2: Dining comments

The SSR food court - Artist's Palette - food is the best (in our minds) of all the DVC resorts, but that's because we like healthier choices for dining. If you want heat-lamped pizza & burgers and warming pot chicken nuggets, go to AKV's The Mara. We like freshly-made food that isn't grease-laden.

As for table service, I had the BEST meal served to me in all my visits to WDW at SSR's Turf Club - which I did not expect (I had the lamb entree). Sit outdoors to enjoy the lovely view and ambience of being on the water.

#4: Areas to request

Grandstand. You are at the 1st bus stop for pickups and dropoffs. This is a great advantage! We always had a seat on the bus - never having to stand. The other benefit of Grandstand is that you have the largest satellite pool (which is pretty quiet) that has an adjacent children's water play area.

I think all the other SSR areas are good too . . . but don't really see any benefit in The Carousel - it isn't near any pools, HH, and doesn't have a preferred bus stop either. I guess it would be the quietest section, but I found most areas away from HH to all be quiet.

We stayed at SSR in June and really liked it. We spent most of our visit at the resort :)

On a side note...I would like to know how to make my trip countdown tickers switch back and forth....how did y'all do that?

I just got back from SSR a week and a half ago and I absolutely loved it! The grounds are beautiful, the pools are awesome, the bus service was better than usual and the AP was great for counter service.
I stayed at Congress Park and loved it! It was a short walk to the carriage house and we just jumped on the springs bus in the am on our way out. After hearing a good bit of negativity about SSR, I found the resort amazing! I can't wait to go back home in Dec!!

Also if you don't eat what is on the menu at the CS they can make you whatever you like. I'm a very plain eater (as in I wouldn't touch anything on the menu) and the CMs worked with me to figure out how to change the food so I would be able to eat it. Super nice and the food was excellent! :thumbsup2
