In all my trips to WDW, I have never ridden Splash Mountain. Can anyone tell me about this ride. What is it like, scary, really wet? Anything you can tell me would be appreciated. Thanks.

SPLASH MOUNTAIN
Location:Frontierland

Ride Time: Approximately 11 minutes

Ride System: Flume ride featuring 8-passenger logs (4 seats). Guests sit side by side.

Requirements: Minimum height requirement of 40" (102 cm); For safety; you should be in good health & free from high blood pressure, heart, back or neck problems, motion sickness, or other conditions that could be aggravated by this adventure. Expectant mothers should not ride.

Description: This thrilling log-flume attraction is based on the adventures of Brer Rabbit, Brer Fox, and Brer Bear from the 1946 Disney animated and live action film classic, Song of the South. Traveling in eight-passenger hollowed-out logs through twisting, backwoods waterways, guests plunge down the world’s longest flume drop into the Briar Patch below. The show concludes with a musical extravaganza featuring the cast of Audio-Animatronics critter characters singing the film’s Academy Award-winning theme song, “Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah.”

Final Drop: The final plunge takes place at an approximate 45 degree angle. It is 52 1/2 feet long, and, at the attraction opening, was heralded as the longest flume chute in the world. Guests descend at a speed of approximately 40 miles per hour, faster than the rockets that soar through the Space Mountain attraction in Tomorrowland. Some folks get wet, some folks don't. Everyone gets splashed a little.

Height: Splash Mountain rises approximately 86 feet high, measured from ground level to its tree-topped peak.

It's so much fun, you need to try it! I'm not a big fan of drops, ToT is my least favorite "thrill" attraction (love the special effects and theming, can't take the drops), and obviously Splash has a huge one, but it's not scary and it's over fast. The Song of the South theme is fun and the animatronics are great with all the Brer animals. You will get wet if you are in the front of the log and splashed a little in the back. You will get wetter on the right side of the log as opposed to the left. After getting soaked on Kali River Rapids at the AK, Splash seems mild. HTH

After 4 trips in 4 years, we finally rode Splash for the first time last month. We had always skipped it because of the long lines and huge crowds around the area where you get Fastpasses for the ride. This time I fought my way through the crowds to get our Fastpasses and we finally got to ride it. We loved it! The drops are fun, and we got just a little wet, just enough to feel pretty good on a hot, crowded day. But to us the best thing about this ride was the fantastic theming. It's a gorgeous ride, and much longer than I was expecting. We ended up riding it twice this trip using Fastpasses both times - the lines are always huge for this ride, and now I can see why!

Splash Mountain is my favorite.
I'm 40, I don't like roller coasters, big drops etc...
Quite a few years ago I was with a group on women who were all at least 20 years older than me. They were all excited to ride it and I was the one who really did not want to. I then HAD to ride because how was I going to rationalize staying off the ride when a group of people 20 years older than me had no problems getting on?
Well..... I fell in love with it and it is now my favorite.
The ride other than the drop is SO wonderful it is NOT TO BE MISSED.
The drop is really not that bad and actually fun. You will get more wet in the front.
I think You will love it!!!!! There is no scare to it at all and the drop is over in one second!!!
Somewhere around here is a little video of it that someone took. I wish I could remember where so I could share it with you. Maybe someone else will know.

I love Splash Mountain! It is my DD's (age 11) favorite ride. It's a one of WDW's best rides. We never miss it! When we first went on it, my daughters were a little nervous about the big drop, but they had nothing to worry about! It's over before you know it! The animatronics and the scenery tell the story about how Br'er Rabbit is trying to get away from Br'er Fox and Br'er Bear, who want to eat him! There are three small dips before the one big drop. The music on this ride is also great. We never skip it! I highly recommend it!::MinnieMo

Thank you all so much. I am so excited to try this ride. Even DD 8 is willing to give it a whirl. Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait!!!

If I went on Splash Mountain, (Big Chicken) then any scaredy cat can do it!! It is a lot of fun, even if you have your eyes closed tightly for the big drop!!:o

I avoided this ride---the drop at the end scared me! But after my 4 yr old niece rode it last year, I had to try it this year. And boy am I glad I did! There are a few drops, but nothing terrible, and even the drop at the end is fun. But you should try to keep your eyes open at the top of the drop--you can see so much of the MK. This is now one of my favorites!

Missy1961, just had to mention that I noticed your location and I grew up in N. Massapequa. And thanks for all the testimonials.

I hate roller coasters and the drop at SM scared me so much that I wouldnt go on it. DH kept telling me that Splash Mtn was so neat inside that I really should do it--I decided last year to "take the plunge."

I dont like the drop..I hold on..close my eyes..and its over in a few seconds. The picture afterwards is never good because I am holding on for dear life and my eyes are closed. BUT the ride inside is one of the best rides in WDW I think and I am so glad that I did it. There are a few minor drops inside that kind of get you ready for the big one--they are drops like in Pirates of Maelstrom.

It is possible to get wet..mostly on the front rows..I always request a back row! And the left side because after the drop on the right side is a waterfall that gets you wet if its running. I always make DH sit on the right side and he does! I do remember getting a bit wet and my glasses usually get wet. DONT wear a hat on the ride as we were on it and the guy in front of us had a hat on and during the drop he lost it!

I say go for it..you will find the drop goes by so fast that its so worth it. Make sure, if you can, do it once and then do it again shortly after that. I was so scared worrying about the ride the first time that I really didnt enjoy it as much I wanted..so we went again just a bit later. I enjoyed it so much...also, DH and I look for hidden mickeys in the ride too...

Have fun!!

The only major drop is the one you see at the end. You get splashed, not soaked! The ride is so cute! there are a few hills inside here and there, but nothing like the end. We took my 5 yr. old niece on it and she was scared to death to ride it. After we got off she was grinning ear to ear. She lloved it!:earsgirl:

Splash Mountain is a "must do" every time we go to WDW, and we have to ride it at least twice during our visit. It's so Disney. . .magical and endearing. This is DH's favorite ride in all of Walt Disney World :lovestruc . I really think you will love this ride, too!

:D

This is my favorite ride anywhere. The theming/storyline is excellent and the rideactually takes a few minutes to complete rather than a quick ride that you have to wait an hour for. I don't think it's scary although the big drop is exciting. It goes quick, though. You will get wet, especially if you sit in the front. I've never been soaked though, in case you were wondering. I hope you decide to go on it. I don't think you'll be disappointed, but what do I know? Have a great time!

I am in the minority..
I hate rollar coaster, because I am afraid. I have not rided any rollar coaster for several years.
I tried SM this year because DD5 rided it the first time. I thought SM is boring though:o
Note sure whether I will like it if I were to try it a second time.

This ride was fantastic! I remember my father and younger brother taking a "guy's trip" when the ride was new. They rode it 2-3 times, waiting in lines before they had fast pass. Yikes! I was shocked that my dad was so into this ride. He loved it! And of course, bought the photos.

When I finally got my chance to ride it, I was scared of the drop, seeing others ride and scream. However, once the ride starts, the characters and inside theming tend to make you forget that drop is coming.

It's great, and quick! Besides, you don't get a chance to ride it everyday!!

I've been a Splash Mountain fan since it opened in Disneyland in 1989. When my DH and I went on our honeymoon to Disney World last year, he loved it so much that we ended up riding 9 times in 4 days!

The drop really isn't bad at all (but then again, I love that sort of thing) -- it's worth it to open your eyes and take a quick look around right before the drop. The view of the Magic Kingdom is breathtaking!

My only word of warning - you will have "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" in your head for the rest of your life after your Splash Mountain experience. This may or may not be a bad thing, but be aware.

I think you'll REALLY enjoy it! We rode in the very front and got DRENCHED! I plan on riding it again next time BUT I'll ride it at the end of the day, I don't enjoy parading around in wet shorts! ;)
