How deep is the ocean water off the slides? Do they resist kids from going on there if it is over their head?

Water is deep and over children's heads. As long as the child can swim out to the slides they can come down them. They do offer life jackets.

We made our 5 year old wear a life jacket bc of the depth of water. She can swim fine but I wanted to be extra safe. Our 8 year was fine without one. I am 5'3 and couldn't touch and the bottom of the slide.

Our son was a month shy of three on our last cruise. Poor kid was turned away from Mickey slide on the ship. I was surprised as he measured tall enough at home and the slide lands on a flat surface. He was upset and cried. Insisted on being measured every day. He wanted to go so bad and he was a sliver too short. Fast forward to Castaway Cay. He sees pelican plunge and begs to go with his older brother. I told him he was too little. He asked to get measured. As we have been turned away on the ship I leisurely walked over expecting him to be turned away. Would you believe that little stinker was tall enough?!?!?!? :confused3 And not by a little bit. He was definitely tall enough. The castmember was like "he's good". You should have seen my little guys face. At that point I was like ok let's do it. I put a life jacket on him and we swam out together. They let me go down one slide and then he went down the other. When he came out he started swimming toward me and I toward him. It was pretty easy. Went on a few times.

Just blows me away that he could take a slide into 10 ft of water but not onto a flat surface. :confused3

What are the lifejackets like? Anyone have a picture? We have a rule, lifejackets are wore near water. My kids were them, even my swim team swimming 10 year old, when we're at a lake or ocean. And my younger two wear them at pools. Another thing to pack?

You can't wear life jackets or puddle jumpers from home on pelican plunge. You have to change into theirs. My little guys can swim better in puddle jumper so we used it when he wasn't on the slides.

I can tell you that I had a wardrobe malfunction on Pelican Plunge and my bathing suit top came undone

the closed slide is much faster than the open slide and it is better for the kids to wear life jackets because they won't go underwater so much and get a mouth and nose full of saltwater

I believe under a certain height or age they HAVE to wear a life jacket to go on pelican plunge. It was really funny because my 6 yo ds and 9 yo ds went one time and hated it, my 4 yo dd wanted to go over and over! Both boys loved the aquaduck! I think the factor was that they went under water (even with the life jacket) coming off of those slides and ended up with a mouthful of saltwater, so you may want to let your kids know that the water will go over their head, but they'll pop back up, and to keep their mouth closed@

On the slide platform there are also some fun things. There's one of those huge buckets hung up high that slowly fills and then suddenly spills over, dousing you with a stream of water. There are a few water canons which you can aim at targets in the water. So even if you swim out to the platform but then "chicken out", there is what to do there! Also, on shore, there's a viewing platform with some water canons. Good for those who remain on land.

Thank you!! They should be fine in those. I get why they need the yellow. We use yellow at home too so they can be seen easier. My kids also wear wildly bright suits, not blue or green, for the same purpose.

Are these the same lifejackets on the ship? Is there a to have them for the day?

Here is a pic of the life jackets by the kids pool on the Magic.
