i fancy treating myself to one but i have no idea what to go for and how much to spend :confused3

I bought dh an ipod a couple of years ago and i love it! It is so easy to use and the computer package for the pc is fantastic and we are constantly getting updates emailed from itunes to update the software and give us new functions.
There is an apple shop at the mall of millenia and dh has hinted we may be going there to get an ipod mini for me! ( i am still going to try and win one with walkers crisps before we go)

alot of research on this in May-got my daughter one. Went to the stores
and the web-sites also talked to people at work who have kids who have
them. Also Consumer Report on-line helped a great deal. I got my daughter
an I-River paid 249.00 on sale. It holds 5,000 songs and has a top quality
radio.

An MP3 player is not an ipod. You can easily pick up an MP3 player for around £25.

I thought MP3 was the generic name for them, and that an iPod is one particular type/brand of player :confused3

So, as I understand it, an MP3 player is not an iPod, but an iPod is an MP3 player - or are they completely different?!

A square is a rectangle, but a rectangle is not necessarily a square. :teacher:

:rotfl2: thanks i think !! i'm not sure i want to splash out for an ipod my music knowledge is not that huge !
so should i just get a cheap mp3 and see how i get on ??
also where do you download the music from and how much does that cost??
see i know nothing about any of it.....the technology is in danger of passing me by

I'm no expert as I don't have either, but I think an ipod holds LOADS more tracks and is more PC interactive.

Natalie ~ I've got an ipod and an MP3 and I think going on what your requirements are I would go for the MP3. I use my ipod for the gym and mostly copy music onto it and occassionally download tracks from ITunes. My MP3 player I use as a dictafone and it holds about 40 tracks. FYI my ipod I purchased in Florida and my MP3 player I got from Ebay.

HTH :flower:

I bought an iPod photo and it was excelltn on holiday, as I was able to transfer all of the the photographs from our digital camera memory cards onto the iPod and then start fresh. The sound quality is excellent and it is extremely easy to use :)

Please believe me and trust me, get an IPod mini. I originally started off with a Creative Jukebox Zen 30 GB (8000 songs storage and am still filling it up nearly two years later). My son bought himself one and the differences between the two systems was amazing, I ended up buying myself one with my birthday money.

The current mini 4GB can store up to 1000 songs, you can also download audiobooks on to it, and radio segments. The audiobook is an added attraction for those long haul flights we are all so keen on.

The battery life is 18 hours which means it well lasts for 18 hours which is good. :teeth:

You download tracks from ITunes at a cost of 79p or about £8 (I think) for an album.

The most important thing is it is so very very easy to use both the IPod and the IPod program on your computer. You can copy your own cds to it but downloading from ITune is just a click of a button, the IPod does the rest.

It is also very small and easily fits into a pocket.

However, another option is the new PSP from Sony. It is a multimedia machine that can play movies (on special UMD discs), songs, games, browse the internet via Wi Fi and store photos. This is retailing for £179.99 which is about £40 more than an IPod but you are getting a portable movie player as well. It is a stunning machine though it is bulky compared to an IPod. The picture quality is out of this world and is ideal if you wanted to take it on long haul flights for the dvd playback, music and games.

If you are about to buy an iPod mini you might want to delay slightly as there are some rumours about a significant change to it (smaller size, colour screen, larger capacity).

Apple has now released the latest addition to the iPod family: the iPod nano. It looks gorgeous!

Bought a 30gig IPOD Photo 3 weeks ago from dixons, 229.00, however if your a student you get an extra 20.00 knocked off. One of the best thing I have ever purchased.

Gets more use than the tv.

Will be useful for when I fly in Feb 06, back to the hallowed country.

I used mine a lot this year. I thought it was good being able to download books and radio segments on to it as well.

I'm not sure if this will interest any iPod owners, but I thought I would share it anyway. Just before our trip to NYC this July, I downloaded a "PodCast" from the Virgin Atlantic website, all about New York and what one can see and do. It made for great listening on the plane. There are different editions also, with an Orlando one coming soon. You can check it out at http://virginatlantic.loudish.com/
