Tell Me About Google Talk/Chat

I just noticed that a folder has been added to my gmail account labeled "chat" and when I opened the folder, it says "you can chat and make free voice calls with friends"....does anyone know anything about this new service?

Yeah it's a program you download. It's VERY basic. Doesn't have all the garbage AIM or Yahoo does. It's clean and simple. No ads. You can see part of your past messages. You can only chat with people who have a Gmail address. You can do voice chats if you have a microphone.

I use google talk with my DH in Iraq...sometimes the voice calls are great other times not so great.

I used it to talk to my friend the other night and I guess she could hear me fine. She didn't have a microphone though.
