Tell me about going in May please...

RAIN!!!! We went the first week of May a few years ago and it was probably the worst trip we've had because of the rain. Thunderstorm the night we arrived (the dark clouds rolling in were impressive) and steady rain 4 of the 6 days thereafter. I'm talking sideways rain in the face. I probably won't go back in May after that, but maybe a weather exception? I'm ok with the summer afternoon thunderstorms, but not 8-10 hours of rain during the day.

The last two years we went during the first two weeks in May. The crowds and heat gradually grow as the month progresses but by mid-May it is still extremely manageable.

I did have a couple of days of heavy rain last year but they were still a lot of fun.

May was my very first trip. We had a very warm week (high 80s and humidity the whole time) with extremely large amounts of rain! There was a storm passing through so more than your typical quick afternoon rain. It rained 3 out of our 7 nights for long periods of time. I was worried about our Luau being cancelled and Illuminations was delayed about 30 minutes the night we saw it. The already large amount of smoke made it painful (physically) to watch in the rain. That being said, it was still a fantastic trip and I have returned many times, but in different seasons!

Usually, the summer rainy season doesn't begin that early

Of course, Unseasonable weather patterns can happen any time of the year.
Unfortunately, you were "lucky" that May trip.

We had heavy rain our first day, which was great because it was an MK EMH day and the crowds were sparse. In fact, we had planned on doing just a few things that day, mostly around adventure land and that side of the park, and we ended up doing a lot more, including 7DMT because there were almost no lines.

We went May 8th yesterday- the day after our college kids got out for summer break. It was really great. Not too crowded and not too hot/humid yet.

So how's end of May?? I know, according to some guides it's peak, but there's peak and then there's "PEAK". We've been on July 4th a few times, so I get craziness. How's it compare? And we will be pretty much avoiding AK due to Pandora's opening.

Our girls are in High School now, but when they were younger we went 3 or 4 times in May before school got out. We loved it! The crowds were manageable and the weather was great. It was warm enough to enjoy the pools without being miserably hot. Can't wait to go again in May! You have given me hope that once they are both in college we can go again in May.

Oh, this makes me smile! :) Enjoy their last years of HS. Goodness it goes by quickly, doesn't it?

Another happy May traveler! We love it and are doing our 3 trip. As others have said most schools are still in session and it seems not many people are willing to pull their kids so close to summer vacation. My DD gets out of school Mid May and we will head down shortly.

You might also miss the nearly every afternoon thunderstorm as I think we only got rain one day of our last two May trips.

Just remember that while it might not be blazing hot, you will still need to make certain to drink plenty of water and use sunscreen. Have a blast.

Thank you so much! I was thinking the same about the kids still in school. :flower1: I hope to miss the rain.

May is one of my favorite times to go! Something you should be aware of this May is that Wishes is ending May 11. Magic Kingdom will probably see much higher crowds than normal for May at night probably the entire time you're there, especially the nights of the 11 & 12. They daytime I can't see being impacted but I'm betting you'll see some higher numbers than you're expecting at night. Otherwise, the crowds should be pretty great, though there are no slow times of year to go anymore.

I cannot believe Wishes is really going to be over. Thank you for the tip! :teeth:

Mid May probably my favorite time to go!! :goodvibes

So glad to hear this! :flower:I debated forever comparing calendars.

We went the first of May last year and had an amazing time! Great crowds, weather and very pleasant overall. I was just reading the Moana wait time thread and was thinking about how lucky we were last year with the M&Gs. The longest wait was for Buzz and Woody, and that was only around 23 minutes. Even meeting Joy and Sadness was practically a walk in. The longer waits (Rapunzel, Anna and Elsa) we had fps for. Lol, we waited around 5 minutes to meet Ariel, and that was because I thought I was in line for the ride.

Wow!! That is awesome! You have me VERY excited!! :thanks:

We are going May 2-9 and hoping it will be great!

I went May 14th-ish back in 2001 and it was wonderful.

Have an awesome May trip! :flower3:

Can't offer May advice, but wanted to add that we are in the same boat. My DD and I have gone the last 3 years just us girls during her high school February break as that is DH's busy season. Now that she's in her first year of college, we are going in May after she gets out and bringing DH with us this year! Loving all of the positive replies for a May visit!

Oh, this makes me happy for you and her both and hope you have a great trip together! I hope you are dealing with her being at college okay. I'm struggling here. Sad mom. :(

Oh, yuck! That is definitely TOO MUCH rain! o_O

Excellent, thank you! :-)

Oh, bummer for your first trip! I'm glad you went back! :yay:

Thank you for this link! :D

I love when it works out that way! :rainbow:

Yay!! Thank you! I am so excited now to start planning. It's nice to have this big decision made. It's still a little weird to me that I am going to have a college kid, like for real. I might be in denial. 8-)
