I've cruised DCL twice and have gone up to Topsiders for the emarkation buffet lunch both times --which I do enjoy, but I was thinking of trying Parrot Cay for their lunch. How do the 2 compare?
When we sailed last December, it was cool enough that we preferred Parrot Cay to Topsiders...and I've never eaten there, but I can tell you that Parrot Cay's buffet was likely quite similar to that at Topsiders (including those awesome shrimp!)...characters were wandering the restaurant...we've got a great shot of our son with Chip...and the table service as far as drinks was great (I understand someone to have said you had to pay for your soda at Topsiders??)
Anyway, we plan on eating there again when we cruise in May.
Probably the biggest difference is that you can get soda included with your meal at Parrot Cay. Other than that, the differences are very minor (e.g. field greens vs. iceberg lettuce for the salad).

Wow, that's good to know about the soda difference. Well, that's not enough to make me decide in of itself- but that in addition to being a sitdown type restaurant versus buffet is enough for me.
Mental note: eat at Parrot Cay for embarkation lunch. LOL
It is still a buffet...you'd wear the servers out bringing you everything otherwise!
I understand Topsiders can get fairly crowded...it was the opposite on our last cruise because of the weather...they were sending people up to Topsiders because PC was full...go figure!
Be aware that you may be "directed" to the elevator before you even realize it...pay attention and walk by the CM if you want to go to to PC (PC wasn't full but I think they were trying to even out the crowds)

oops sorry about the duplicate post - I can't seem to delete it..........
we like eating in parrot cay upon boarding, it's more spread out and doesn't feel as crowded as topsiders, plus we like the atmosphere better, more tropical looking. pretty much it's the same food.
It's the same food...still a buffet, but a little nicer. The servers bring you your drinks, and you can get free sodas in PC. Topsiders gives you the option of open air dining, and the servers really do try to help with carrying trays for children, making sure you have what you need, etc.
Is Topsiders the "option" of outside dining? Or JUST outside dining? I was under the impression that it was just outside dining- no inside.
And with that line of thinking (could be wrong?) I thought we'd enjoy PC better. I don't particularly enjoy eating outside unless the weather is nice and not windy. In early Feb it might be cool/windy.
??
I'm going to let the weather determine where we dine for our embarkation lunch. It'll be the end of August, and if it's a nice day we'll have lunch at Topsiders. If it's very hot and humid, or raining, we'll have lunch at Parrot Cay.
Our vote is for Parrot Cay - more relaxed and yes, those wonderful shrimp!!!!! And orange/mango soup - I think I'll bring a thermos to fill for later so I can have my favorite drink!!!!!
Our last two cruises we ate "inside" at Topsiders. It was airconditioned, and had those big windows so we could gaze outside. I could enjoy the beautiful sky & sunshine, AND still be close to the Mango Soup!!!!
BBB -- Topsiders (or Beach Blanket Buffet, depending upon which ship you're cruising) is a HUGE buffet restaurant. The buffet and 2/3 of the seating are indoors; if you choose, you can go through the doors to the back to an outdoor seating area.
Be sure you look around for all your food options in the buffet. For example, at breakfast the made-to-order omlets are ONLY made in the outdoor seating area.
Do you remember the short, fat redheaded woman with the spoon standing over the bowl of soup and holding the large bowl of shrimp in the buffet line??????
