*** Television Spring 2011 ***

AMC is being ridiculous.
They're being thrifty. We have a whole forum, here on the DIS, devoted to folks who operate just like AMC was operating in this case. You aren't calling those folks ridiculous eh?

They are trying to have off 2 minutes each episode and they also want to reduce the roles of 2 major characters on the show.
I heard 6 characters. Regardless, what they were doing is trying to make the show more profitable for the network. They were negotiating with an employee to try to maximize profit and foster long-term shareholder value. They lost. If they had won, then they would have been heroes, not to viewers, but to the people who really count in this consideration. Their only error was taking on a producer, Weiner, who they should have known was going to stick to his guns, even if it meant killing the series. The vast majority of times, producers will compromise and negotiate. But they should have known that Weiner isn't the kind of person who believes in give-and-take on things like this.

If AMC doesn't give Weiner what he wants, he'll just take his program to another network.
As I understand it, that was never an option. Weiner has creator credit, but the network owned the rights to the series. He couldn't take it away from them; it was already theirs. All that was happening was they were negotiating for his personal services.

Depends...

Is AMC using a crockpot in their hotel room?

;)

Does anyone know what's the deal with Mad Men this Summer? Is it true they are not releasing another season until 2012?:confused3

They haven't started filming next season yet. Really, they're just going to get started plotting the season out and then they'll start writing the episodes. Figure that that'll mean they'll be filming this fall, and we'll see new episodes come January.

In a rather overt heart-tugging move, this Friday, the CW will present a rebroadcast of the pilot episode of Smallville from ten years ago.

And they deserved to lose. Quite frankly, Weiner is responsible for the AMC that we know and love today. Apparently the execs at AMC have a short memory but Mad Men was their first major hit and it was thanks to Weiner.

Everyone will have their own perspective on who needs whom. The reality is that Weiner couldn't have made Mad Men without the money that came from having a slot on AMC's schedule. Effectively, it's a tie, in that regard, since the result couldn't have come about without both sides coming together, and both sides could have teamed up with someone else (AMC with some other fantastically excellent creator, like Vince Gillian; and Weiner with some other up-and-coming cable network, like FX).

I saw an advert for a series starting this summer that looked good. I think it's an "aliens attack" type series but I can't remember the channel or it's name. Does anyone know?

bicker - I saw that SyFy is carrying the Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles starting on Thursday. I assume these are repeats in syndication, but just thought I'd check to see if SyFy took over the production of the show and they really are new story lines?

I'll answer my own question. As expected, they are repeats.

I know it may be a little early but anything date wise for Leverage or Memphis Beat (a guilty pleasure)?

Sorry folks; I've been incredibly busy at work before vacation, and have been away on vacation for the last week (starting to head toward home now), so I've been out of touch. Assuming work hasn't totally fallen apart in my absence, I'll be back online early next week.
