Television Monitors in Small World's 'Good Bye' room?

So they're finally catching up to the ET ride at Universal from 20+ years ago?

sure this is funny, but you didn't get a personal goodbye---We had several cast members when we were getting in line for FPP adress us by name, and it was kind of cool-- I think it will be really cool for the little kids meeting talking characters.

Have you been on the ET ride? You do get a personal thank you from ET at the end. You have to give your name to one of Mr Spielberg's assistants when you're waiting in line. I always found it sort of corny but 20+ years later Disney is doing the same basic thing and touting it as some sort of technological breakthrough.

I dont think its monumental or anything.

But they probably use something akin to a wireless access point with a directional antenna to read the bands from a distance. Toss in a pc to take the numerical signal from the reader send it to the mother ship for a name and then take the name it gets back and assign it to one of the monitors. Toss in an extra video card to the pc for each monitor. Spend a day of coding. Total cost is maybe 5k for a stupid little think like this. The intern running the "project" isn't really going to be doing anything else worthwhile to make MM+ better so there's no time lost on anything else.

Why not do it?

maybe 1 person a day thinks its cool- isn't that worth 5k?

Toss something like that on every ride in the park and they probably haven't even spent the salary + bene's of a middle manager.

They'll definitely be tied into the magic bands. I've been reading that they'll have personalized goodbye messages for random people in your boat.

Wow Universal tried that 20 years ago with the ET ride!!

OMG that ending is so creepy!!!!!

I think it will just be cute, colorful monitors with "Goodbye [Your Name Here]!"
We'll be there this weekend, if anything changes I will update :cool2:

I always thought they were going to modify the song as your boat went by, using the names off your scanned magic band: "It's a world of Walter A world of Jill It's a world of Pablo A world of Bill There's so much that we share That it's time we're aware It's a Son #2 world after all!"

:rotfl2: I probably wouldn't even notice. I use IASW for nice air conditioned break. And no computer would ever say my name right so I have no fear of even noticing LOL

It would be cool to hear your name especially for the kiddos until you get a kid with a weird made up name like mine that no one ever pronounces right. Than your just a big ball of disappointment lol.

You should have heard E.T. attempt to say my name, Chloe. It was a mess.

I can see it messing up a lot of names especially how some people spell names now a days. My full name is Shayan ... No one ever gets that right. Ever. Lol. I'd be shocked if a computer did haha.

But if they are using the data from your Magic Band it should be correct. I would think so anyway :) This could be cute, but it does remind me sort of the end of the E.T. Ride at Universal. They need to update that technology too because they never got my name right either:rotfl:

I was there when the ride reopened after the rehab on Thursday. The monitors were there, but they were just showing "Good-bye" in some language - no names from MagicBands.

Yep, we rode it on the 13th and same thing...no names, just good-bye in different languages...
