teens WITHOUT cell phones, email

My DS (10) has a cell phone as do most of his friends. It is great when he is outside playing or at his friends house. I just call him to come home.

I'm trying to remember how i got my kids to come home when they were 10...........:sad2::lmao:

When I was a kid it was be home before it got dark out. But my DS won't pay attention to the time, if he is at a friends and then he has to go to practice. Makes it much easier to call his cell

The reason he got a cell phone was, DH was deployed to Kuwait for a year. So I got him a cell and programmed in everyone's number in case he had to get in touch with someone. My mom & dad he calls them mimi & poppa - so that is how I programmed it in. If he looked in my phone he wouldn't know how I have it listed. I don't even remember numbers anymore because of the numbers programmed in.

But honestly I don't know any of his friends that don't have a phone.

As someone mention every family is different, do what is important to you. I use my cell all the time when I am calling family, friends. My sister can't take calls in work, so if I need to ask her something I will text her and she will text me back.

Well both of mine had cells long before age 10 (we also had no landline) and nearly every one of my son's classmates had them at least by last year (5th grade).
It's definatly not the norm in my child's group of friends or school to have a cell phone (my daughter would likely lose it the first week anyways :lmao:) but I can see that it would be harder without a landline to keep in contact.

You are so bad, I think we could be friends. lol My favorite line from a movie, Steel Magnolias, "If you can't say something nice come sit next to me." ;)

:thumbsup2 Texting does make talking about people pretty easy...(but a disclaimer...I really am not a mean person!!)

That didn't work when my girls were young because we lived in Alaska! :rotfl: It was daylight the whole summer!

That is so funny! My DS would never have gone to bed. When he was younger, if I tried to put him to bed and it was still a little light out. He would always say "but it isn't dark out yet"!

Lol! Thankfully they were used to it, but it was sometimes hard to convince them to go to bed at 10 pm when their friends were still playing outside!!
