I don't mean to call you out or flame you or anything, I am just wondering. Please don't be offended. Did you know that WITHOUT hunting (and I mean skilled hunters not children playing around) that animals (like deer) woudl starve? Its true. Thinning the herd is a practice that keeps deer alive. Deer won't stop breeding depending on the resources they have at hand. There can be enough food to feed 10 deer in one place. Well when spring rolls around and those ten deer start breeding and then there are 15 deer, there is still only enough food for 10. the young and the old will starve. again I am not trying to flame you or make you mad. I am trying to say that guns aren't always the worse of the two evils.

Guns are safe. People aren't. I'm sorry, but this was a stupid mistake and they are both lucky to be alive.
They've learned their lesson, the hard way.
I'm very sorry that this had to happen, but better it happen now than later, when you or your best friend we with them.

I completely agree. I do feel sorry for both of them, but (no offense to OP) two 13-year-olds should not be playing with guns for that reason. I'm just glad that they both survived and are doing okay. Again, I am sorry for what happened, but it was a stupid mistake.

on one college campus, a teacher was threatened with a knife. another student went to his car, got his concealed carry gun, and defused the situation.

There's no other way around it. You use a gun to kill. An animal, a person, it doesn't matter.

That being said, I think the only reason you should use a gun is in defense.
