Living this now too! Luckily, DD's friends are pretty good kids, so I don't get any rub-off behavior. I actually found the mood swings got better once she started her period. At least they were a bit more predictable.
Last fall, when she was 11 1/2, I had the absolute classic pre-teen hormonally swinging girl argument. DD was refusing to do her homework, so I sent her to her room until she was ready to work. She slammed into her room, and yelled "I'll just stay in here, and not eat, and then I'll die and you'll be happy!" Followed by the slamming door. She fell asleep about 5 minutes later, and when she woke up the next morning, it was like nothing had ever happened!
Now I KNOW that I never did anything like that (yeah, right!). I have told my husband that since I was the perfect child I must be paying for his sins, since my kids are what is politely known as "challenging"!
