Okay, so I just went to the doctor yesterday for a physical. He told me that I am 5' 9" and 184 pounds. He also said that according to the BMI Index I am overweight. I need some help! I know all of the basic tips to staying fit, and I still can't seem to get it. To make matters worse, my homecoming dress came in the mail and it to small, and it was the biggest size! Does anyone have any tips or leads to diets to help me. Will trade help for leads/tips! I can give help on anything!!!!!:sad2::headache:

Well first of all, I'm not an expert on staying fit. I have a high metabolism so I dont really watch what I eat. However my dad is like a fitness guru, and he tells me that portions are key. He says you can eat almost anything you want as long as you stick to the right serving sizes. You can also try that ally pill they talk about. It might give you the runs though.

Thanks for the advice. I want to know though, is ally safe for teeneagers and if so, where can I buy it?

I know they sell it at places like Walmart and Target, but I don't know if that's a good idea. My mom has read things about it, and if you aren't careful it can make you sick...

I just I just did some research about Ally and since you need to be 18 to buy it, you should probobly forgo it. Plus I hear side effects can get NASTY. One thing I would do in the meantime is just watch your serving sizes, and keep active. When watching TV, walk or jog in place. And don't get bored! I know that when I get bored, I eat. Watch a movie and run or walk or do sit ups while you watch, or do walking with your friends around town and chat. It always helps to keep moving.

Okay I just stole this from yahoo answers, so thank you Frank M.

First of all, you should be at least 18 to use Alli. Plus a friend of mine suffered an embarrassing side effect from using it. The side effect? An uncontrollable bowel movement. That's right, she was at work when it happened. I don't want to get too graphic here, but it wasn't pretty.

One way to motivate yourself is to get a pen and notebook out and write down the goal you want to achieve and put a date on when you want to achieve it.

Not only the ideal weight you'd like, but the body type. What good does it do to be 110 or 115 lbs and your body looks like a stick with no curves. That's not attractive, trust me. You need to exercise. Quick fixes never work. This needs to become part of your lifestyle you do for the rest of your life.

PATIENCE is one of the keys to weight loss. For people trying to lose weight, it's never fast enough. You must be patient. Lose 2 lbs this week, a pound next week, maybe 3 lbs in the next two weeks thereafter. Soon you'll look up and notice that your clothes are hanging off of you. Those pounds add up and after 6 months you might have lost 35 lbs!

Again, determine what body type you would like to have. Write it down. Don't resort to looking to movie stars and celebrities in People magazine or US magazine as role models to follow their crash diets. They have deep pockets that can allow for the best personal trainers to help them stay motivated and the freshest food and the time to exercise properly. You're a teen with probably limited funds and a lot of stuff going on.

Get a picture of someone you admire with the body type you'd like. Paste it somewhere you can see it all the time. Maybe in your notebook or in your locker at school, on the back of your bedroom door, etc.

Go out and purchase that dress or skirt that is the size you want to be and hang it up where you can see it everyday. So that the next time you stop in McDonald's, you'll think about that dress or bikini you want to wear this summer and avoid the burger and fries.

Be realistic and get to work on building that body and leave the pills and easy fixes to the naive and gullible.

I guess I am the naive and gullible. :rolleyes1

I think maybe you should ask your doctor or some weight-loss expert and see what they say. But really, just eat healthy and not a lot, and excersize. Stand instead of sitting, walk instead of standing, jog instead of walking, go outside and play instead of watching tv- ya know.

Hello there! I saw your post and I decided to give you a few helpful tips. I have lost 45 pounds in the previous year and a half so I really love helping others lose weight!!

The first thing I did was stop eating from nasty fast food chains such as McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy's, etc. I had been eating at them since I was little & I finally realized how disgusting that "food" is. I don't know what your eating habits are like, but cutting out all of that will help you lose weight quickly.

The next thing I eliminated was candy. I actually realized I had to start losing weight around Easter of 2010, so I had a bunch of chocolates. I gave them all to my dad. Made both of us happy. ;)

If you eat american cheese, replace it with Weight Watcher reduced fat cheese. It tastes pretty much the same and has MUCH less fat.

Do not drink any soda. Not even diet. I usually drink water & crystal light.

Try to eat NATURAL snacks like fruit and vegetables. (Wow- as I'm writing this out I'm realizing how much I need to start getting back on track. ) But seriously! Processed stuff, like anything found in boxes and already edible probably won't fill you for long. Carrots and apples are extremely filling and bananas give you a ton of energy. :thumbsup2

Drink water ALL the time. ALLLLLLL the time. It's amazing how fast your metabolism will speed up!

Switch all of your bread products to WHOLE GRAIN or WHOLE WHEAT.

Grilled chicken is a good choice for dinner. Simple to make and takes no time!

For exercising, I swear by Tony Little's products. :rotfl: We have his gazelle and rock n roll stepper in our home. They really can work wonders!!

Good luck with the weight loss, and send me a message if you ever feel the need. You're tall so you don't have that much to lose. Getting down to 150-160 could be perfect! Hope I helped. :goodvibes

Thank you so much for the tips!!! I wrote them all down, and I am definatly going to stay away from the ally, those side effects sound nasty! I am going to start eating healthy today, but if you have any more tips or encouragement, they are greatly appreciated!:yay::thanks:

Don't normally post on the Disboards much but thought I would help as this caught my eye.
Its not just about eating certain things, even though that is a big part. Its also about exercise and LOTS of it. Trying getting into sports and going to the gym at least 5-6 days a week. When I go to the gym, I like to make a pattern and run one day, swim the next two days (as I'm on my school's swim team and training for a half-marathon at the same time).
Also, are there any sports you are interested in? Getting into sports at school with friends is always a great way to get and stay fit. :) Its all about baby-steps and working your way up.
I really, REALLY don't recommend pills. Start with the food portions and weekly visits to the gym. Hope I helped a bit!

The gym thing did because I play softball and I really do need to stay fit. So thanks for the advice.

Im not really sure what type of place you live in (big city, small city, country, ect.) But biking and walking or going running even if you have to start out short by only running like a block or so then walk a half block and continue, but work your self up. it helps loose wait. Also if you can do it wiht a friend it helps ALOT! It keeps you motivated and there is always someone there to help you remember your goal just when you think about quiting. Also a great time to talk about things that you want to talk about but not with anyone around. You wont even relize how long you have been running, walking, or biking if a friend comes along.

Good Luck!:)

I am sure you look beautiful now, but if you're looking to use a little, I have a few ideas. I lost 66 pounds overall, in a year.

1. Stay away from all fast food.
2. Eat five small meals a day, so you're not hungry.
3. Stay away from diet drinks and regular soda, I made me want to eat sweets.
4. Eat more lean protein, less carbs.
5. Don't beat your self up, nobody's perfect.
6. Drink 6 glasses of water or more each day.
7. Lastly, find some activity you like.

The best things to do are to eat right and exercise a lot. Eat small portions with a lot of lean protein and cut out soda. But exercising is really important too. I have a personal trainer and I go to the gym 5 days a week. My BMI went from 24.6 to 20.1 in 2 months. But if you exercise a lot, don't be too focused on weight. As you work out more, you will build muscle, which weighs more than fat. So you may find your weight not going down as much, or even going slightly up, but you will be leaner and will be able to fit into that dress. If you hate going to the gym, find something else active you like to do. I recently started going to Zumba and I love it. I get a great workout without even realizing I'm working out. Set goals for yourself. Sounds like you have a great one now with wanting to fit into that dress. Also, imagine yourself looking like you want to look when you're working out. It just may make you go a little harder. Oh and one more thing. Cardio alone won't do as much as if you do some cardio and some strength training. Strength is not just lifting heavy weights. It's anything from lunges with light weight bicep curls to planks. This will help you burn a lot of fat. Good luck!
