I have been wondering if there are any tax implications to renting out a person's points. If one figures out the basis for their points and then rents them out for a higher amount, is that taxed as ordinary income or is it some other category?

I just joined DVC this year, so I don't plan on renting my points out anytime soon. But, on this board, I have seen some really clever ways to use points for other things that are non-Disney (such as renting points out and use proceeds for the non-Disney vacation). But then, I was thinking if this would made my taxes more complicated--it might impact my decision. :)

You'd probably get the best answer from your tax professional, since your personal situation may impact the way it affects your tax return.

In general, there won't likely be a tax implication to rent a few extra points.

Good Luck!
