Technical question about Savi’s lightsabers: different sounds!?

I built my lightsaber a couple of years ago with a blue crystal. On a recent trip back to DHS, I i bought yellow and purple crystals and realized for the first time that different colored sabers make different sounds. My question is: how? How does changing that little piece of plastic change the sound? How do the electronics figure that out?

There is an rfid chip in the crystals that is read by the saber telling it which programming to use.
