I have seen that several of our Disser's are computer literate. I am not. Right now this describes me well :badpc:. Our Word Perfect will start to load and then stick. My dd has a report due Friday and she has it almost finished in Word. I can't open it. Can someone please Help? Thanks

All I can think to tell you is to reboot your computer and see what happens. I had that happen to me also on Microsoft Word...is that what you have? When I finally got nowhere after the 3rd time of trying to open Word, I rebooted my computer and everything was just fine.

Let me know if this works. Does your DD have her report saved in 2 places...to the hard drive and to a floppy. At least on a floppy, she can print up at school or the library if you have no luck getting things working.

I have rebooted. I also did a system restore back to the day it did open. I am afraid she only stored it in Word and in My Documents. I am so frustrated. Thanks for the advise though.

How about a complete computer shutdown and start back up. It's interesting how far you have to go sometimes just to get one program to work. I mean turn the computer off with the off button and then turn it back on. If you'd like I can ask my computer genius in the next room if he has any other ideas. :goodvibes

DH says to google Open Office, it's a free word program you can download. He says to see if it reads Word Perfect and you can open your DD's report that way. Will this help?
He also told me that if you have the software, you can uninstall and reinstall word perfect to your computer, but if your computer came with it, you'll have to contact the place you got the computer and see if they can help you out somehow.

Your Word Perfect program could be damaged. If you know how, or know some one who can do it for you. First find your Word Perfect prgram on its CD-ROM disk. Stick that in, and see if it will run a program that can fix itself (a repair). If that dosen't happen you can always uninstall the program and re-install it. But you don't want to do any of this if you don't have the proper disk. And if you end up uninstalling the program, make sure you go to the control panal and do it from the "Add/Remove programs"

Excellent advice...excellent! You and my DH must hang on in the same puter circles.

My MS Word somehow got damaged and I have all kinds of intermittent trouble with it. For a looooong time I had to go through MS Works to open Word as the re-installing didn't work for me..... :confused3
