Team Renfroe - Pre-Trip Report for May 15-22, 2009 **Final Chapter**

Pneumonia!? Wow!! I wish you a speedy recovery!!

Hoping to see those photos soon!

Regards,

Luis

Thanks, Luis! I am beginning to feel better, but DW and I both still have the cough and can't seem to get rid of it. Photos are coming soon, I promise!

I'm sorry to hear that you have both been so sick. Prayers for a speedy recovery.

Hi Kathy! Prayers are appreciated....and working! :yay: We have been taking it easy and just trying to get over all of this.

Pneumonia, that's awful. Hope you get well soon! :) Look forward to seeing the pictures!

Hi Figment's Friend! :wave2: I know....have pneumonia at Christmas really stinks. In fact, I think this is the first time I've ever had it. I don't feel too terrible, it's just this cough is horrible.

Pictures will be forthcoming. We had a great Christmas in spite of everything!

I wish you a speedy recovery!!

I'm so glad we at least KNOW when our ADR's can be made now. Feb. 22nd for us!

Thanks, LL! It looks like Feb. 15th for our ADRs....oh well, that just gives us more time to change our minds! :rotfl2:

I hope you are starting to feel better. I fell down a our wooden stairs last night and my right arm, leg and back look like I was in a fight. My daughter told me I am not suppose to paint my body purple. Hmm! Can't wait to read your updates!

Oh my goodness!! Are you okay? I hope nothing is broken or anything! Best of luck!

Sorry to hear you've been sick Alan! Hope you are both better !!Looking forward to the Christmas pix !! I finally got my cards put on cds but am still having trouble loading them to photobucket !!
My window is right around yours ! I now have at least 6 weeks to change my mind again:rotfl2:

Hi Rosie! DW and I are still hacking, but we are both feeling better. I have been uploading pictures on photobucket tonight, so I will post some new ones in a bit.

It looks like we'll have plenty of time to make up our minds about ADRs. (It will honestly probably save us from calling and changing them a half dozen times!)

Glad that you're on the mend. I had to catch up on the vacation happenings. So you've decided on Pop in May. I think that you'll love Pop, my children still think it was the best, so far, of all of our Disney vacations. They liked it better than AKL!! I can't wait until you've booked your ADR's. I'm glad that you're thinking of trying Ohana's, it may be our favorite next to Boma. :thumbsup2

I'm glad to hear that your kids loved the Pop so much! I was a little worried about not having enough space in the rooms, but we do not spend much time in the room anyway. Also, our kids saw several pictures and love the theming. Then I got registered for a fridge swap, so I was sold! I think it will be a completely different experience for us this year, and I can hardly wait!

We are definitely going to do everything we can to get a dinner reservation for Ohana. We had breakfast there on our last trip and loved it. The dinner looks terrific.

I agree Pop is great!! The values are not so spread out !! Everything is close at hand !!My Grandkids loved the Petals Pool (Hippy Hoppy) Sometimes they were as happy to stay and swim as go to the Parks !!We went commando style and stayed gone all day till after supper .Next time I think we may take a mid day break and see more of the fireworks etc !!DGD will be 7 sooo hopefully wonttire so easily!!

Oh, we are big believers in the mid-day break! We found the parks to be ridiculously crowded between noon and 5pm, so we would leave after lunch and return after dinner. By being there early, we could ride everything we wanted by lunch time!

DD is hoping our room will be in the 60s area, since she is such a little neo-hippie! We will most definitely end up swimming in the hippy pool.

As December came around, our kids were invited to a bowling birthday party and had a great time! (They had gone bowling before, but it had been a long time ago.) In only one game, DD AND DS both got a strike! I took a few pictures of them:

Meanwhile, DW worked on decorating the house for Christmas!

Each year, we have a family tradition of putting the ornaments on the tree together as a family. ALL of the ornaments have special meaning to our family. Either they represent specific occasions, times in our lives, things we are into, or the kids made them. The one thing we DIDN'T get at Disney this year was an ornament, and DW says we will definitely be buying one this year!

Here are our stockings. (The one on the far right is for Truman, our family dog!)

In case I have not introduced everyone to Truman, here he is!! He is a silky terrior...and a big baby!

More family Christmas pictures in the next post.

We have several traditions in our family for the Christmas holidays. My family gathers at our house on Christmas Eve. On Christmas day, we have a big breakfast with DW's mother and father, and spend the rest of the day with just the four of us. On the day after Christmas, we have my wife's family Christmas gathering.

Here are a few pictures from this year's gatherings:

We have a tradition of letting our kids open a Christmas gift from us on Christmas Eve, and we always get them a new pair of pajamas. That way, they will have brand new PJs to wake up to on Christmas morning! Since DS will soon be 12, we thought we would just get him some practical clothing he could sleep in, instead of PJs (which are now uncool to him.)

The next morning was CHRISTMAS!! DD got a new digital camera, (takes after her Dad!) along with a game for her Wii and a charger for her Nintendo DS. DS got his dream - an Xbox 360! With Halo3 and Guitar Hero!! (Okay, okay, Guitar Hero was as much for ME as it was for him!)

The following day, we went to DW's parents house to have a Christmas gathering with their family.

WE had a wonderful Christmas!! And a great New Year as well! Now that it is 2009, we can really start getting excited about our next trip to WDW in May! Woohoo!

Thanks for sharing all your family photos, it looks like you all had great holidays! I can't get over how much older your son looks from your WDW trip photos! My family always does prime rib with yorkshire pudding too for the holidays! It's so yummy!

Your Christmas tree is beautiful! We also had a stocking for our dog before she passed over the summer, nice to see other pet-lovers doing the same! :goodvibes Truman is a cutie! Great gifts for the kids, nice photos, Alan! :thumbsup2 The prime rib looks delicious.

Looks like the holidays were good to Team Renfroe! I'm so glad. And now you can say you're going to WDW this year! :yay:

My cousin got guitar hero for his XBOX 360 and I am addicted... I told my DH we would HAVE to get an Xbox now! haha Your wife's prime rib look delicious! I love your PTR! You're going to Disney in what, 4 months? Yay!!!

You have such a lovely family Alan. I can't believe how big the kids are getting!:goodvibes

Hi Alan!
I am finally all caught up on your PTR and loving every second! The adventures to Panama City, Atlanta, and DC were great!

Your Disney plans look good too - I LOVED a Boma breakfast, but I am looking forward to a Kona breakfast coming up in our January trip. I will report back and let you know how it goes. DH is getting Tonga Toast, I think I'll be trying the pancakes. And of course, the COFFEE. Oh yes. :woohoo:

CONGRATULATIONS on your teaching position! That is very exciting! I hope it is going well.

Happy New Year to you and your family! :goodvibes

Oh, and I love that you call your family the Griswolds. :rotfl: I love those movies!

ETA: I had used your links from Post #2 to catch up on your PTR, and I just noticed your Christmas/New Years pictures - looks like you had a great Christmas, I love your house - very pretty! And your tree is beautiful as well. And the food....YUMMY! WTG for Rusty and Audrey getting those strikes!

Glad to see you guys are feeling better!!

How great is it that we can now say that we are going to Disney World this year!! About 4 months to go! Time is really flying!

Alan,

I'm glad that you and your DW are getting better.

Those photos are wonderful!! Your Christmas decorations looked really nice and everybody seemed very happy with their gifts. Also, those dinner photos were just mouth-watering!! BTW, What did Truman get? :)

It has been very nice to see how the kids have grown. Also, please tell your DD that for your May's trip report we hope to see HER photos on the DIS!:goodvibes

Regarding your upcoming trip, I just recently subscribed to this website:

http://www.stitchkingdom.com/parkhours/

Is supposed to be able to send you an email if Disney's website changes its calendar info (for any month you specify). It seems a cool idea and maybe it could help you in your planning.

Take care,

Luis

I know, right? DS is growing up WAAYYY too fast. His 12th birthday is next week!

DW says that she wants to start a tradition for our family to do prime rib on Christmas night. As the kids get older and maybe even have families of their own, we hope that everyone can get together for this family feast each year, (along with a glass of wine!) I don't know if I've mentioned it or not, but DW is a really really good cook.

Awww.. thanks! The tree itself is really nothing special, but it becomes special with all of our family ornaments. Next year, we will make sure to have an ornament from Disney World!

Truman IS a cutie, isn't he! He got a new rope in his stocking, and we let him pull it out on his own. He was like one of the children!!! We laughed at him and he was soooo proud of his new toy.....he pranced around the house carrying it proudly.

Looks like the holidays were good to Team Renfroe! I'm so glad. And now you can say you're going to WDW this year! :yay:

Hi Christine! Oh yes....that holidays were good at the 'ol Griswold home! You are SOO right about saying that we are going to WDW THIS year! That makes a huge difference mentally.

My cousin got guitar hero for his XBOX 360 and I am addicted... I told my DH we would HAVE to get an Xbox now! haha Your wife's prime rib look delicious! I love your PTR! You're going to Disney in what, 4 months? Yay!!!

I am freaking LOVING Guitar Hero! I was terrible at it at first, but I am starting to get better and better. DS can still beat me everytime, but I'm starting to make it competitive. (It helps that I know almost ALL of the songs anyway!)

Yep, we are officially about 19 weeks away from our trip. This coming weekend, there will be 9 weeks until we are off for spring break, and then another 9 weeks after that is our Disney trip!

You have such a lovely family Alan. I can't believe how big the kids are getting!:goodvibes

Hi Kathy! You can tell that I am really proud of my family and our kids. Good grief they are growing up tooooo fast! They are both looking forward to our Disney trip, but I can already tell that DS is moving closer to that teenage mentality. :scared1:

Hi Brooke! :wave2: We have been enjoying your TR as well.

I am getting really excited about the adjunct teaching assignment. The classes start next week.

I dig the fact that you get the humor in us calling ourselves the Griswolds!! I am SOOOO Clark Griswold it is not even funny!

Happy New Year to you and your family as well!

Glad to see you guys are feeling better!!

How great is it that we can now say that we are going to Disney World this year!! About 4 months to go! Time is really flying!

I am feeling better, but unfortunately DW is still feeling badly. She is going back to the doctor tomorrow.

Yay!!!! Our trip to Disney World is 4 months away!!! Woohoo!!! Before you know it, we will be in the double digits as far as days go. You can bet that I will be ready to call and get our ADRs as soon as Feb. 15th gets here. (That will be our 90-day window.)

Good luck with your classes this spring semester!

Alan,

I'm glad that you and your DW are getting better.

Hello Luis! I hope you and your family have a wonderful and safe new year! We had a wonderful holiday season and everyone did enjoy themselves. Truman got a new rope as a toy!! (He LOVES to bring it to you and have you tug on one end while he tugs on the other end and growls.....like he is really vicious!!! He truly is our "baby.")

Oh yes, now that DD has got her OWN digital camera, that means we should have TWICE as many pictures in our next trip report, right? Seriously, I think having those Disney pictures is what made her want her own camera. About half of the pictures I posted from the holidays were from her camera. She is looking forward to taking it with her to Disney, and she has no shame at all in taking those food pictures!!! LOL!!

Thanks for posting that link. That will keep me from checking Disney's web site everyday.

Hi Alan/Clark - I found your trip report and PTR a few days ago and I'm all caught up. What a great dad you are and you have a lovely family.

Reading your report reminded me that we watched "Vacation" shortly before we went to WDW for the second time. It was on TV the other night and we watched it again. I couldn't believe how risque it was and I was surprised by the language! I didn't remember that. I guess it's such a good movie that we can look past it. I remember we were all rolling on the floor laughing. It's so darn funny.

We went to WDW this past May too (May 3 - 17) and thought that it was very hot. It can get hot in the middle of summer where we live (central Canada), but we don't usually walk around all day in the heat. We (I) did suffer a bit, but tried to savour every moment. It's currently -30Celsius here with a windchill of -40! Yikes - it's cold. We've been looking at our Florida pictures today to help us feel warmer.

We're going again in March and then to the Gulf Coast for two weeks (we're retired) so I loved seeing your pictures of the coast. The creatures in the water looked scary, but really neat.

Keep up the good work with your trip report. I'm really enjoying it. By the way, I love your DW's wedding picture. She looks like a Southern Belle - absolutely beautiful.

Nora

Hi Alan don't know how I missed your update !! The Christmas pix and traditions are great!!The kids decorate (well mainly the girls) each year with help fom DD!!The Ornaments on the tree are a mixture of special ones and just regular ones !! DD found one of her on a homemade ornament when she was 2 , It had sorta been MIA for awhile but it was really special to find it !!The biggest surprise for me was the Yorkshire Pudd. How is ma Southern Belle cooking a truly English dish!!My family loves them!!Many have asked for my recipr but I don't have one I just make them!!:rotfl2: I have no idea of amounts I just watched my mum for years and learnt how !! Well it's new year and still no calendar !!:scared1:

I can't believe I've missed your updates either, and a fair few of them too!! I'm glad you had a good christmas, it looks fantastic, I must admit though it is very wierd seeing you eat prime rib and yorkshire puddings, in Britain we have turkey so to not have that on Christmas day is somewhat wierd... although I guess you go all out on Thanksgiving the same as we do on Christmas!!!
Happy New Year to you all, and a very very belated Happy Christmas!!!
I've fulfilled one of my resolutions already, to re-start my TR, which I have done now, swing by sometime if you get a chance! The links in my sig!! :)

Hi Alan! I loved seeing all those Christmas pics- thanks for sharing them! We do the Christmas Eve new PJs, too- makes for nice photos on Christmas morning at our house.:goodvibes And dinner looked yummy- I adore yorkshire pudding...yummmmmmm.

I have to say, Truman is adorable- I pulled DS11 over here to look at his pics and we were both all schmoopy over him.

Ellen

Oh! And so glad you're all back to good health and congrats on the job!:jumping1:

Ha!Ha Ellen - I'm stalking you!

Happy New Year Renfroe Family!

Sorry I missed all of the holiday posts - crazy around here too. Glad to hear you and your wife are recovering though. That stinks to be sick over the holidays.

Your house looked gorgeous; and the kids are adorable as always. I had to laugh at your comment about your DS not thinking it's "cool" to wear official pjs. Lauren is the same way - it's bad enough I have to worry about buying her clothes that look cool to wear to school; but now she has to look cool to go to bed?

The food porn kills me - always looks so good in your posts. And I love Yorkshire Pudding - I make it too!

And - is that your wife's wedding photo behind the Christmas tree? It's so beautiful!

Awww... you are so sweet to say that I am good Dad. I don't care if I am good at anything else, but I want to be a good Dad first and foremost. My children are the greatest joy in my life!

Yeah, we love those Vacation movies. There is so much truth in those little travel troubles that always seem to creep up. You save up your money and vacation time and then you want everything to be just perfect....but it doesn't always end up that way! I am so Clark Griswold it's not even funny!

Gosh, I can't even imagine that kind of cold weather! Living in Alabama, our coldest days are usually in the 20s Farenheit (and we only have those about 4 or 5 days a year.) Today, for example, the high was about 68 and rainy. The temps are suppose to drop some tonight into the low 40s or high 30s, then tomorrow's high will only be around 50 or so. (Farenheit)

I hope you all will enjoy the gulf coast as much as we do! I sincerely want to live there one day. I feel "home" there.....I don't know....there is just a feeling like it is where I belong.

Thanks very much for the comment about DW's picture! How she puts up with me I'll never know!

DW had never made Yorkshire pudding, but we LOVE the Food Network and when she saw Alton Brown do it, she insisted that we should have it along with our prime rib. This begins a NEW TRADITION for the Renfroes! Woohoo! We both loved it. The kids even liked it.

Hopefully they'll have those May dates for us soon! Hope all is well with you.

Yeah, turkey is generally the Christmas Day tradition here in Alabama also. However, we have two big turkey dinners at Thanksgiving and another one with my extended family a couple of weeks before Christmas. I personally love a good turkey dinner, but I did enjoy the prime rib on Christmas night!

Hi Ellen! :wave2: You're right about the new PJs...it is nice to have pictures of them in their new digs on Christmas morning.

Truman is a schmoopy kind of dog, for sure! A true lap baby. His nickname is "shaggy dog." We call him Shaggy Dog or Trumey more than Truman! Believe it or not, he was a shelter dog and we adopted him. He is absolutely the PERFECT dog for our family.

Oh! And so glad you're all back to good health and congrats on the job!:jumping1:

Thanks! I feel about 95% now, and DW is about 80%.

Ha!Ha Ellen - I'm stalking you!

Happy New Year Renfroe Family!

Hi Cammie! :wave2: Yeah, it was rough on both of us being sick through Christmas, but if I had to be sick this was definitely the best time for it to happen.....at least I had some time off to rest up and get better!

I know what you mean about the kids having to have "cool clothes." DS now wants American Eagle, Hollister, and Aeropostle everything.....now he's wanting some cologne!! :scared1: Oh God, what's next...shaving! :scared1:

That Yorkshire Pudding was terrific! It was one of those dinners that is so pretty on the plate, I just had to take a picture!!! I saw a DISboard thread that is called, "You know you're addicted to DISboards when..." and my post was, "when you take pictures of your food, even when you're not on vacation!" DD now says, "Dad, can I eat my food now or do you need to take a picture of it first?" :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Awww....she says to tell you "That's so sweet! Thank You!" Yep, that's her. Hard to believe, but it will be 14 years this year.

By the way, we are really enjoying YOUR trip report and pictures! You are truly blessed with two beautiful and sweet girls.

Aww - thanks for the compliments are my girls!:goodvibes I've got to get moving on my TR though - I've been slacking! Before you know it, my next trip will be here!
