Team 'Ohana--No One Left Behind: The Continuing Adventures

Hey Cousins!!

So sorry that it's taken me so long to say "hi" and check in after W&D! So sorry that we missed seeing many of you at Beaches and Cream and Jellyrolls! It would have been wonderful to meet more of you in person........maybe over Princess weekend, if anyone is planning to be there? :)

So great to see you and your DH, Jen!! And congratulations on your 5K PR! I'm sure that you did an amazing job with the 14 miles, too!! And - forgive me for falling behind with Facebook (it always seems as though if I'm caught up here, I fall behind there, and vice versa!) - but I hope that you DO decide to do the Atlantic City Half, this weekend - DH and I will be there! :)

So wonderful to meet you, Richard! It's so funny how we ran into one another and I recognized you right away! It was so nice having a chance to speak with you and get to know you through miles 2 - 11! And I hear ya - it was my slowest half time, as well - but who could miss the photo ops - ESPECIALLY the Osborne Lights! :) And I am quite honored to be amongst those appearing in your profile signature! :)

I agree with you about the Finish Line Party lines, Richard - AND the bag pick-up, too, Rose - although I didn't check a bag, I couldn't believe the length of those lines! And the area just beyond the finish chute was very disorganized - I wasn't quite sure where to go - I was lucky enough to have someone hand me some water, but I never got my little bag of snacks and was FAMISHED by the time I was "released" into WS! I begged DH to GET ME SOME FOOD (!! :) ), but the lines at the W&D stations were RIDICULOUS! Perhaps next year, they will have some of the permanent pavilions' restaurants (at least counter service) and shops open to "diffuse" some of the traffic in WS and cut down on all of the food and beverage lines. I felt badly for DH, who was waiting for me at the finish by himself - I was sure that there would be more for him to do, while the race was in progress. He was hoping to do some shopping and browsing in the WS pavilions, but they weren't open!

Anyway, we had a blast in general! I loved both races and their courses and it was so nice to have a chance to meet so many of our WISH pals in person at each of them! Plus - needless to say - we had a fantastic time at F&WF and MNSSHP, and exploring and relaxing in our new home at BLT! :)

Congratulations on your PR, Julie! That is fantastic!!! :)

And congratulations on all of your great recent runs, Maria!! :)

Whoa - a FIFTY MILE bike ride, Richard??!! Very impressive!! :)

So sorry that I've fallen behind on everyone's most recent posts - yet again - I DO promise to be better, now that we have completed our "POST-WDW-RE-ENTRY PHASE" and have finally unpacked and gotten settled back in! (Now it's time to start the countdown to Princess weekend! :) )

In the mean time, I have the Atlantic City Half Marathon this weekend, which should be a nice weekend getaway!

Hope that all is well with all of you and hope that you're all having a great week! Take care and talk to you soon!

Lisa :)

Hi Cousins!:goodvibes

Rose: So sorry we missed you at Beaches and Cram. I didn't realize until later that none of us were wearing WISH stuff to make ourselves obvious (although DH and I had on the 5K shirts from the morning race). Glad to hera you had a good weekend though.

I ran a surprise 5K with some friends today and got a PR of 29:20 which makes me happy. Not sure what it does to the 14miles I was supposed to rn tonight-- I'll see how I feel.

Congrats on the PR!!! I'm sorry we missed everyone too, but I really might not have been good company--I was very hyped up until the race--my college student has had a little bit of drama going on this fall, and insists on sharing it with me.;) I really thought about bagging the whole thing, but I'm glad we ended up running it.

Rose - So sorry we missed up at Beaches and Cream. I'm glad you got to me before the race. Yes I was wearing the bright WISH shirt, and my jungle fever shorts as well. I was so glad that I did not chack a bag when I saw that cluster of a mess at the bag return line.

Jen - Congrats on the PR!

I'm still somewhat tired from the Wine and Dine trip. Adding to that, I did a 9 mile run this morning (passing on doing a local 10 mile race) before heading out to do some work. Tomorrow I need to get in a 50 mile bike ride as I am peaking next week before my November 7 half iron. :scared1:
I am still having flashbacks to that bag return line.:rotfl: I heard that people were dropping as they left that building. Not good.

50 miles on a bike.:scared1: I also have falling off a bike issues.:thumbsup2

Hi All,

Rob & I did the BAA Half today. The start was really cold, but it warmed up a bit and turned into a beautiful day for a race. The good news is that I got a PR of 2:17. The bad news is that I was dealing with nausea from mile 11 on (not sure why - maybe improper hydration?). Came home and had a nap and now I'm back to my old self.
Congrats on the PR! I haven't had nausea during a run, but have had it after and it stinks!

Luckily after some much needed rest, Mike and I were able to enjoy our time on Mon and Tues before heading home.

I need to start focusing on training for January again. All of the wining and dining we did last week has not helped.

:sunny: Happy Monday to everyone!
Glad you could enjoy Monday and Tuesday!

Richard -- Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver and the other's gold :thumbsup2 It also helps if they can tell James T. Kirk, Luke Skywalker and Jack O'Neill apart, but it's not strictly necessary ;)

I ran 4M today, and we spent the afternoon working in the attic. We had 7 big plastic bins that were completely empty -- the good news is after about another hour, it will be in good shape. Our attic is finished (carpeted with a cable hook up), so it can be used an as extra room. Well, it could if we didn't keep taking stuff up there and just leaving it anywhere...:rolleyes1 There is a great space by one window where I could set up a puzzle table and just create an area for myself. I'm thinking about it, but not sure I want to be that separated from everyone...I kind of like keeping an eye on the tween! ::yes::

Everyone have a great night and an awesome week!

Maria :upsidedow
Ok, I have to admit, I know the first two well, so by process of elimination I could figure out who Jack O'Neill is, but don't what does he does? So does that mean I'm kicked out of the club?;)

And as for the tween--we have a fully finished basement--the teen hangout when DS was home. We took the door off and put a gate up for the dog. I seriously considered putting up cctv when ds had this one hot and heavy girlfriend. Oh I remember it well.....

In the mean time, I have the Atlantic City Half Marathon this weekend, which should be a nice weekend getaway!

Lisa :)
Lisa--Hope the Atlantic City Half was fun!

Mike and I ran 14 this weekend, and I must say it was pretty fun. Gorgeous weather, and the leaves are just changing here. After how horrendous I felt at the end of the bag check, I was curious to see how this run would be, like maybe it wasn't the temps in the bag check line that made me feel so sick. We ran a mile with one minute walk breaks and it went great. That's my longest distance ever, so very exciting. And we ran a named hill--planned this time, not like last time when we were lost. I think we might register for a small half (1500 people) in Nashville in November.

Hope everyone is well!:goodvibes

Congrats on your new longest run! Pretty soon, you'll be at the point where you look at your schedule and think, "Only 8 today? Piece of cake!" :)

I have to admit I don't know who Jack O'Neill is either and I consider myself pretty well versed in sci-fi. :confused3

I'm looking forward to seeing Lisa tomorrow in AC. I hope the race is better than the packet pick up was. We waited for almost an hour to get our stuff and then realized the dinner that was advertised to start at six was not open until six thirty so we bailed and ate on the boardwalk instead. The weather looks like it will be good tomorrow so hopefully it will be a good, fun race.

Toying with a solo weekend trip for Princess. Will any cousins be there?

Oh ye of little "Stargate" watching....:goodvibes

Col. (now General) Jack O'Neill is the iconic role played first by Kurt Russell in the Stargate movie, and then by Richard Dean Anderson in Stargate SG1, Stargate Atlantis, and Stargate Universe.

I was trying to come up with a third option from another series most people would know...sounds like I failed miserably! :rotfl:

I know Corinna and I are seriously almost committed to Princess, I'm not sure about anyone else? I will definitely be solo, and I believe she will be as well. I haven't paid my entry fee, but I have checked into the airfare enough to know I'm better off coming home on Tuesday instead of Monday...(there could be some "Disney" math involved there -- i.e. I'd rather pay for another night than pay the same money for airfare...).

Maria :upsidedow

I will be there for Princess.:goodvibes I paid my registration and I have BWV booked for Friday-Tuesday. Debating going back Monday, but I haven't bought a plane ticket yet. My sisters are coming--I think, only one has registered so far, but I am definitely hoping for some Wish meets. I think they are all going back Monday.

I'm still undecided, but it's hard to pass up another opportunity to use my costume. Plus, I bet I'll be able to get at least Corinna to get decked out too. :)

I'll be there...and at BWV also. I'm going for Perfect Princess!

Hey Everyone! :)

Hope that you all had a wonderful weekend!

CONGRATULATIONS to you, Rose, on your great 14 mile run - AND your longest distance! That is just wonderful! :)

SO GREAT to see you and your DH today, Jen!! :) It was so nice to "run into" both of you DURING the race (.....it helped me to "pretend" that I was still at WDW instead of NJ! :) ) and so kind of you to find us, after the race! Hope that you both had a great time (and congratulations again on your winnings! ;) )! And hope that the Birthday party was wonderful, as well! :) Most of all........CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR PR!!! :) That is fantastic and very inspiring!! :)

We had a very nice weekend in Atlantic City! We're not gamblers, but we certainly enjoyed having one last chance to be "down the shore" (as we say, here in NJ! ;) ) before the weather becomes prohibitively cold and uncomfortable! :) We also brought my Dad with us, to thank him for taking care of our cats and our home ( :) ) while we were at WDW 2 weeks ago, and that was nice (except when he was being grumpy! ;) )!

I agree with Jen - the packet pickup was a NIGHTMARE, yesterday......we also waited for almost an hour (we were looking for you both - sure that we would see you somewhere in those massive lines! :( ). I think that the organizers need to do a bit of work before next year - the start and finish were rather disorganized and chaotic. But the race, itself, was pleasant - the weather was beautiful and the temperature was perfect! :) Loved seeing the sights of the Boardwalk on one side and the ocean and sand dunes on the other!

And was lucky enough to see these very thoughtful NJ Cousins, today! :) (Please look at Jen and DH, rather than me.......OY! ;) I think I need their advice about how to look so great at the end of a race! :))

We will be at Princess too, Cousins! :) I won't be solo because we are also celebrating DH's 50th Birthday during that trip (Victoria & Albert's for the first time in 5 years - YAY! :) )! But hope to have a chance to meet up with as many of you as possible, while we are there! :)

Hope that all is well with all of you and hope that you all had a great weekend!

Take care and have a great week!
Lisa :)

Maria :upsidedow

Been there, done that! ;) We sure don't need much of an excuse to find a way to extend our Disney trips around here!

Lisa - Congrats on the half (and you look perfectly fine in the photo!). It's great that you got a chance to have meet up over there!

John - That's the typical thought process that gets me into doing far too many things, fortunately those "things" are almost always the most fun.

AFM - I am trying to muddle through my final peaking traning weeks before tapering down for my November 7 half iron tri. Last weekend I did a 62.6 mile bike ride and 10.9 mile run, with similar workouts planned for this coming weekend (a bit less on the bike and a bit more on the run). The bike ride was supposed to be the 56 mile bike course for the half iron (although our navigator got us a bit lost!), however we persevered with an even better workout. The thing is, when I was at the 56 mark I was about an 11 minute PR compared to the 56 bike during my last April Half Ironman in Galveston. Clearly all this training is helping out to some degree and are not just designed to drive me to exhaustion. On the plus side I was finally feeling caught up with rest from Wine and Dine....that is, until I did last weekend's workouts! Still, I am the one who signed up for this (literally!).

I'm sure the break in the weather is helping too. I'm noticing that my runs are 15-30 seconds faster per mile now than they were a few weeks ago. This is the time of year to have races in Texas. I'm doubtful they'll get such nice weather next May for the full Ironman.

You are most likely right about that, John, I was doing mile repeats in the upper 8 minute range last night....which is certainly not where I would normally expect to find myself. I've been waiting on this weather to start coming in.

I'm doubtful they'll get such nice weather next May for the full Ironman.

:rotfl:

Hey Everyone! :)

Hi Richard and John! WOW - you gentlemen certainly are inspiring with your respective training efforts! I was getting exhausted just reading about your workouts and race plans! Very impressive! :) And thank you for your kind words, Richard!

And I neglected to mention in my last post - we're coming home on Tuesday instead of Monday after Princess weekend for the same reason, Maria!

Can't believe that the "Fall Race Season" (at least here in the North East) is almost over (about a month to go) - it just flew by! Now I'm setting up my "race calendar" for the Spring - trying to find some interesting relatively local places to visit for "weekend getaways", while I'm at it! So far, I have registered for 4 half marathons in 4 different states (NJ, NY, DE, and - of course - FL! princess: ). Debating sneaking in a 5th (DC) if DH won't kill me for having us traveling so many weekends in April and May! :)

Hope that all is well with all of you! Wishing you all a great weekend and lots of good luck with any races or other events that any of you may be participating in! Take care and talk to you soon!

Lisa :)

Bourbon Chase! Bourbon Chase!

http://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.ph...3.250122.6355923333&pid=5276228&id=6355923333

I was expecting it to be...bigger somehow. The racers at the start - there are so few of them!

So, I'm signed up for the Monster Dash Half Marathon next weekend and my training has been....how do you say..."utterly lacking," but in a colorful way? I spent at least a week nursing along my knee that cut a long run into a short run a few weeks back, and then DH being in a play and rehearsing for a choir concert, one kid home sick from school much of last week and the shortened daylight hours have really cut into my ability to achieve a long run over the weekend. I've been doing some cross training and strength training and running seems to be OK now, at least up to 5 miles, but I feel like I'm so totally lacking in mileage over the past month, it is ridiculous. :sad2: Well, it is too late now for it to be anything but what it will be. I'll run what I can at a comfortable pace, and if I walk some, that is OK. If my knee tweaks out at some point, I won't push it, I'll either walk or DNF. And it will be OK.

The good news is I did get a nice run this morning. What do you call intermittent speed intervals on the flat and downhills with recovery on the uphills? Fartlek from Hades, right???

The other good news - this is the final weekend for Andrew's production of School for Scandal. Whew!

So, how many weeks to WDW 2011??? :scratchin

So, how many weeks to WDW 2011??? :scratchin

Thankfully plenty! I still have a few races to get through first, not to mention getting some tech shirts designed and orders for some other online running buddies for us to have there. Plus, I'm off on vacation next week and then in Raleigh the week after that, so I really am running out of time.

Ok, I have a little vent/ whine, depending on how you look at it. Feel free to skip.

I am going to come clean (with myself at least) about the fact that I am starting to have some real stomach/gi issues after long runs. And it's really making me mad. I am doing as much as I can, and honestly am sick of everything right now. After some issues this summer which I thought had cleared up, I had awful problems after the 14 miles last week and today we only went 8.5 (of which 7 was running) and it was not much better. I have given up caffeine (due to my pacs), lost 45 pounds, eat as healthy as I can, and all for what!? I'm going to end up having to go to the doctor and spend probably over a $1000 bucks on tests because for the first time ever we have a $4000 deductible, for some doctor to probably tell me to run less! And honestly we had a crappy week here dealing with DS and more teenage drama. The only think that kept me sane was working out. I know there are much worse things in the world, but I am ready to throw in the towel. I don't eat most of the foods I like anymore, and for what? I finally found one exercise that I like to do with my DH, and it's making me miserable. After researching all this stuff online again, I have one more thing I'm going to try and after that, it's either bite the bullet and go in for tests, or just quit running. Ok there's my whine. I would have a little cheese with it, but my stomach still feels kind of cruddy.;)

Corinna--we were asked to run the bourbon chase next year, but don't know when parent's weekend is yet, so I don't know if we're going to do it.

Rose - Crossing my fingers that your "one more thing" works and you don't have to do all the tests. Having just spent a small fortune diagnosing my hip, I know how much fun that won't be! At least my doctor didn't tell me not to run; he just told me I'd have to have surgery if I wanted to keep running. :sad2:

Corinna - We keep looking at the Bourbon Chase. Won't be next year, I'm guessing, but it's on the Bucket List of races.

Maria - No Princess for us. We were committed, and then they switched the dates and ruined a perfectly good spring break family vacation/race weekend for us. Probably a good thing, since if I do the hip surgery I'll still be in the no-running period and would be really bummed if we'd planned the trip and I couldn't run!

John - We need to make plans for your Raleigh trip. I'm making the bold assumption that I'll be upright and walking post-MCM! I'll send you a PM.

AFM - One week until Marine Corps. We leave Friday morning, and are going to try to do very light sightseeing both Friday and Saturday (along the lines of one museum/monument each day!) Both my friend and I have been, so there's very little we really must see, so we're going to take it really easy. I'm meeting a bunch of WISHers Saturday afternoon for dinner. Then Sunday we're just putting it all out there and hoping that it's possible to be injured for the majority of the season and still finish 26.2. I still have hopes of making my original time goal for the year, but will be happy with anything under their official limit.

Jackie

Hi cousins... I have no excuse AGAIN. Jeepers, I wish my FB cousins would yell at me when I go missing. I just plain forget to check the DIS for some reason. I am so busy during the day. I work freelance at home, take care of Laurel and then the other two kids come home from school. My days have turned to insanity!!

BTW - Laurel is 9 1/2 months old. She is such a peanut. She crawls like mad EVERYWHERE. She cut her second tooth yesterday. Oh we just lover her so much. She is a great baby!!! She will turn 1 year just a couple days after the marathon, of course we are bringing her with.

I will try so much harder to get on here!!!! Especially with marathon weekend coming up so fast! I am doing the 1/2 and the kids are doing the kid's races. I started a strength training class last month to try to get my core back (it's a mess after 3 kids!). I love the class and it is really helping. Plus I lost 4 pounds in the 3 weeks since I started it! Woot!

Happy training all... and kick me off of FB when I forget to check in here!

Hi Cousins!

John - Sounds like your next few months are: Busy, Busy!!! I showed my friend, Julia (age 9), the picture of you with all the princess and she was SO envious!

Rose- feel free to vent - that's what we're here for. At least one of the things. I'm sorry you are feeling so cruddy. Are the stomach/G.I issues something that really happen around running and you are totally fine on the days that you run or is it something that is ongoing but worsened by running? Do you do any crosstraining and if so, is it a problem with that as well? I don't mean to start an inquisition - just wondering. I find that running is pretty hard on the ol' G.I. tract - moreso than biking or swimming or weights or pretty much whatever else. All that jostling!!! I hope that whatever you are about to try helps.

re: Bourbon Chase - oh, how cool! I don't remember if it was before or after you joined the group, That is one that has been on Ohana's collective DREAM list for a while now. Maybe someday. :) It looks like a big undertaking and I have no idea how you get the vans together for it if you're all travelling from far away or even if you're not etc. etc. It also looks like a lonely race - all your friends are riding in the van while you run alone on these roads. But I'd still love to do it sometime, I think. Keep us posted!!!

Jackie - It sounds like you're going into MCM with a realistic attitude. I sure hope you have a fun trip and a good race!

Jen! - it's always good to hear from you. I think conversation on the thread has been a little sporadic for a lot of us lately, so you fit right in, of course! I can't believe how quickly Laurel is growing and learning! It's a busy time with a baby in the house. I am so impressed that you are finding time for work, workouts, grocery shopping (with coupons!!!) AND being an awesome mom!

As for me - I feel like I'm riding the runaway stagecoach of life, but am managing to hold on to the door flapping in the wind, somehow!!! I had a flat tire on the way to the YMCA. Fortunately, I noticed the tire pressure light pretty close to the Y and wondered how long THAT had been on. Not long, I'm guessing. I parked and then noticed the car was definitely tipped to one side. I hopped out and there was a hissing sound - and a silver screw head clearly visible in the tread of my tire. My DH had 3 separate events today, but he still somehow managed to take time to come help me with a flat tire. Well, really, he called AAA for me and then took the kids to get some lunch while I waited for the tow truck guy to come and change the tire. Good thing, too - these minivan spare tires are kept in a MOST out-of-the-way location, and the guy had a very nice jack, compared with the one that comes with the car. Also incredibly fortunate: the tires were, it turns out, to the point where they were ready to be replaced anyhow. Well, it's not the best, but it could have been worse.

It was an OK swimming lesson - It's good to have tips and critiques on what I'm doing, and we've gotten through all of the strokes at this point. The guy who is learning to swim from the beginning is working hard as well, though he still has much to learn. Next week is the last session and I'm not sure I'm going to make it. I'm doing the Monster Dash half marathon, which starts at 8:30. I won't be done much before 10:45, best case scenario. My lesson is at 11:15 and about 30 minutes away. Seems highly iffy to me. I don't think I'll probably sign up for the next session for myself.

There is a lot to like about swimming. As in all things, I wish I were more impressive/faster, but I really need to focus more on just being grateful for what ability I DO have, and trust that my personality will compensate for the ability I DON'T have.

Oh, and my flip-turn - still highly dubious. :sad2:

I need to get up early in the morning to get whatever long run I can manage within about 2 hours. I don't want to go out too much before the sun is up, and I can't be done too much after 9:00. So we'll see what it turns out to be.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, Cousins!!

Jackie--I hope you have a lot of fun at the MCM. Mike did it in the 80s, and I think he'd really like to do it again, because he hit a major wall--went out to fast, young and stupid, etc. I'm sorry about the hip stuff and I hope if you decide to do it that the surgery is very successful.:goodvibes

Jen--I love the strength training. Hope you enjoy your class. And I think 3 kids is plenty reason to be busy and mia.

Corinna--glad the tire thing wasn't worse than it was. I have this irrational fear of blowing a tire on the interstate. The gi stuff is definitely a running thing. And I probably should have gone to the doctor the first time it happened, but I had just got done dealing with the heart stuff. (What is it about being in your 40s and falling apart?) Anyhow, I'm pretty sure I know what is causing the issues, so I'm going to try one more thing and if it doesn't work, go in for tests and make sure it's not exercise induced ischemic cholitis. I'm feeling better about things today. Mike started talking up all the 5ks we could do, and how fast I would get, and it made me feel better, since I don't seem to have trouble with short distances.:goodvibes

As for the bourbon chase, the first thing I asked Mike was where do we sleep? When he said the van I gave him a look. I don't sleep well except in a bed. Anyhow, we'll see what happens.

Hope everyone is doing well.:goodvibes
