Team 'Ohana 2009: No One Left Behind

Jeanne: Thinking of you today and hoping you are having a great race! Be proud of yourself :)

I finally caved and joined facebook so I can now be found among the crazies over there too.

I know I'm late to the party but I just finished the Twilight series and have to say thatdespite myself I really enjoyed it. Now I need something new to read.

You did it! Jeanne You Totally Rock!

:woohoo::yay::dance3:

Even if you are in the Evil Empire, I am so proud of you!!!

Maria :upsidedow

Congratulations Jeanne!

And I think I'm late to say congrats to Richard too!!

Maria...I haven't been Tempted yet. We finally broke down and got a Wii today since Target lowered the price again. Saw it while we were there, but we were spending enough :scared1:

anyone up for a team Ohana meet on marathon weekend?

Hello Everyone!

Just popping in for a quick post. I hope to have more time to read and post soon. Right now I am up to my eyeballs in sick kids. I have two with the flu and one with a sore throat, so things are kind of crazy around here.

Congrats to Jeanne and Richard for your recent accomplishments. You both rock and I'm proud to call you "cousins." :cool1:

Maria - How is your training going? How is Dennis? I hope he's recovering nicely.

Debra - How is your Goofy training going? BTW, thanks for all of the coconut trees and orange trees. My island is looking pretty good now. :beach: Actually, I've been daydreaming of escaping to that little island every time I hear one of my kiddos cough or sneeze.

Mel - I think an Ohana meet sounds like a great idea! :thumbsup2

Hello to all of my other cousins. I hope you are all well.

Hello cousins....thanks for all the well wishes. I certainly felt your good vibes. New York was awesome. I never hit the wall or struggled once. I told myself I was going to savor every minute and it worked. My family did alot to help in that regard. Please check out my very detailed race report and see for yourself.

Jeanne - Awesome report and pictures! I can't believe your pic was up in Times Sq. - how cool is that? It sounds like you had an amazing time and I'm so happy for you! :goodvibes

Jeanne: Congrats-- you totally rock:cool1::thumbsup2:cool1:

We are on vacation now in WDW and having a great time. DH and I ate at Jiko last night and loved it-- it was our 1st time there. Who knew ostrich was so yummy. In the evening I had a great run around the lake by Beach and Boardwalk-- I got to see some of Illuminations, run past the ESPN zone where people where watching the World Series then did several out and backs to Hollywood Studios where I looped around a giant Christmas tree. All told it was roughly 5 miles but felt great and was lots of fun. Cant wait to see everyone here in Jan.

I hope all are doing well and avoiding the flu.

Jeanne - I finally got to read your race report - just beautiful! It sounds like a truly incredible race experience and your family support - unbelievable! And even a close call with the pace car, but you had it all along. I LOVE that picture of you in Times Square! You make me want to do the NYC marathon. It sounds like there's nothing else in the world quite like it.

JenB - So glad you're having a good trip! We are managing to avoid the flu here, so far, knock on wood. I think we might have had it last spring, but of course it's impossible to be sure. Hope things aren't too crazy for you right now!

Mel - I am 100% in for an Ohana meet/team dinner whatever on Marathon weekend.

And me: Last week, I was feeling really, really burned out. I was sick and tired of my regular running routes. Exhausted of my favorite workout DVD's. Fed up with counting WW points. And frustrated with the real "diet" mentality I was encountering in a lot of my favorite support zones. SO, I decided to totally shake things up. I'm using as many of my flex and activity points as I want to - no guilt. I'm doing my speed and distance runs, but the two short runs (2-3 miles each) and two cross training sessions are totally up for grabs as to what I might do. So I've gone to a few classes at the YMCA, including group cycle, body pump, body flow and the hilariously named resist-a-ball. And oh man, do I ever feel better, and even had a decent loss this week in spite of (or because of) a big birthday dinner plus chocolate cake on Wednesday night.

DH's show, Reefer Madness is open - we are going into the second weekend. It's a wild and crazy show, I tell you. Good to be out of the rehearsal period, though!

I guess that's about all I've got for now. Heading out for a lunchtime spin class in a few minutes!

I've been away on a busy schedule, but thanks for all the well wishes on my race weekend before last!

Jeanne - Congrats on the marathon and the great race report!

Mel - I am also in for a marathon weekend team meet, in fact I am counting on getting together with you guys!

This week has been a bit trying as I have somehow managed to injure my ankle--not a training injury, but I'm not really sure what I did! :confused3 Right now I have gone from wondering how to rest it and train around it to hoping it doesn't get in the way of my San Antonio race next weekend (11/15).

Aloha, Cousins! :stitch2:

Richard - -Hope you're starting to feel better! I'm sure your ankle just needs a little R&R, and you'll be good as new for next weekend! :thumbsup2

Jeanne -- I read your incredible race report, and the excitement and joy just pour off the page! What a fantastic accomplishment! I am so proud of you! :woohoo:

Corinna -- Sometimes we just have those weeks. I totally get it. Right now I'm trying to get my weight loss moving again. I seem to be stagnating. I've switched to training for the Half, and my body is trying to adjust. Six miles feels like so much more than 5 to me, but I'm keeping my pace, so I'm just going to have to get used to it. Daylight Savings also always does a number on me. Forward is worse than back, but both are not good. :sad2:

JenB -- I hope you are having a great time with the Mouse! I would say ride Space Mountain for me, but I don't think that's possible...so ride Soarin' for me! :goodvibes

Julie -- Dennis is doing really well. He's allowed to ride the elliptical for 5 miles Monday, so he's really looking forward to that. The PT is really working him hard, so I'm sure recovery is imminent. :cutie:

Mel -- I also don't have Tempted yet. I think I'll wait for the library. I have plenty of goodies waiting -- I have to admit I didn't really enjoy The Lost Symbol. I actually liked Twenties Girl more than I thought I would. I just picked up the new Anne Rice from the library, I'm hoping I like it more than I did the last 2. ::yes::

Jackie -- have you seen this week's Grey's yet? I think there is a serious need for more Bailey, but I'm not going to complain about a shirtless Alex...now if those pesky Mercy West people would just go away...:happytv:

Ok, so who else caught the premiere of V? I haven't decided if I like it yet or not, but I like the pace so far.

I did my 6 miles this AM -- even got up early so I could be done before we do some mall shopping later. My eating continues to improve at a slow pace -- actually probably not so much after lunch at Johnny Rockets today :rolleyes1 I promised ds we could have lunch anywhere he wanted, and that's what he picked. I'll be trying to choose something that's not two days worth of calories.

I'd better finish the manicure I'm supposedly giving myself and get some laundry started.

Everyone have a great day and an awesome weekend!

Maria :upsidedow

Thanks, Maria! The ankle and foot held up fine on the Sunday morning run (5.5 miles at a pace just under 12 min/mile). My body is still telling me it is in recovery mode from the 70.3, so I am not pushing myself too hard. It looks likely that I'll be dropping next week's marathon to a half-marathon unless something changes, but that's OK because San Antonio was never going to be a big race for me anyway.

Good luck in San Antonio, Richard!

Maria...my nurse loaned me her copy of Tempted. Interesting resolution of one issue, but huge mess of another.

Ohana meet: I seem to remember ice cream was popular. What do y'all think of Sat afternoon around 1 ish at Beaches n Cream?

I had 14 on the schedule yesterday, but tried a loop instead of out and back and ended up with 13.3. It's ok though, probably better off without the extra 0.7. I am definitely out of the b2b runs. I just can't run on my ankle the next day after 8 or more the day before. And, after the past couple weeks, I may be out for Goofy. I have a half in a couple weeks (Women's half in St. Pete), so I'm going to wait until then to be sure, but the ankle didn't have it this morning after 13.3 yesterday. Pretty stiff and swollen which is par for the course when I start hitting the double digit mileage. I was thinking when I was out there that I should just accept that I may not have the physical capability to do this. With Lenna home sick this week, I watched a LOT of Tinkerbell. This may sound dorky, but maybe I just need to accept being a back of the pack half marathoner and quit trying to be a fast flying fairy.

Mel - Thanks a bunch for the good luck wishes! I'll probably need them.

The ice cream meet around 1 is good for me.

This must be the time we all start breaking down for some reason. Now that my left ankle seems to be healing from last week's mystery soreness, my right knee is all stiff this morning. I think my body caught me watching for friends on the Ironman Florida footage and is warning me not to try it myself. ;) In any case, I'll make an easy week of it as I lead into next weekend; fortunately I can make a last minute decision on whether I should run the full or the half in San Antonio.

Maria - I missed all but the last moments of V, but see the similarity to the original mini-series. Hopefully, I will catch up. I have been keeping up with Stagae: Universe and it seems the character chemistry is coming together somewhat.

Good Morning, Cousins!

Can you tell my work life has slowed down to "manageable"?! So nice to be able to take a quick break and post on the DIS. I just have one application due Nov. 20th, and to manage my construction project. We're not going to talk about the research I need to wade through, but that is certainly suited for these short daylight hours.

I couldn't get up at 4:30 this morning, just wasn't happening. I'm going to run when I get home instead. DH is making dinner anyway, so I might as well be productive while he's cooking the swordfish and veggies.

The ice cream meet sounds great -- subject to how I do at the Half! I'm hoping to feel fantastic afterwards, and what better time to eat sinful calories?! :yay:

Mel -- I'm going to send some pixiedust: for your ankle. But I applaud you for recognizing you may need to reevaluate your goals. Sometimes it's hard to do that.

Richard -- I Tivo Stargate Universe and I have to admit, I'm not really excited to catch the next episode when I pull it up, but I'm always glad I did. It does seem to finally be getting somewhere, but it seems to be a bit ponderous, and lacking something. Maybe it's just taking awhile to find its footing. :confused3

Ok, breaks over!

My life is crazy......I just did another marathon yesterday! This one was as ugly as NYC was fabulous, but it got the job done. It was my husband's second attempt at completing a marathon and this time he was successful!:banana::banana: When I realized that the spectating possibilities were dismal at best, I decided to do it with him and registered at the Expo. Thank goodness a little birdie told me to pack race clothing, just in case. The marathon itself was easy because I was doing it at a slower pace, but my feet hadn't healed from the week before and the pain was intense.
The things we do for love.......

Seriously, Jeanne?!!

Ok, there's love, then's there's devotion. You are one devoted spouse! What a fantastic way to be supportive :cheer2:

Please tell me you are now in recovery mode, and there was a spa visit involved!

You read the race report from the week before, Maria....I owed him BIG TIME! And it will take quite some time before I will let anyone even TOUCH my feet...they are so sore right now, but i'll gladly take a rain check for the spa visit!
