Team 'Ohana 2009: No One Left Behind

Jeanne - Congrats to you and your family! Can't wait to hear more details! :cool1:

Jeanne - Congrats on the proposal! :bride::groom:How exciting!!! Will it be a Big Fat Disney Greek Wedding?

Maria - :thumbsup2Great job working out on vacation. I'm hoping to be able to stick to a work out schedule during our trip in August. Have you posted a trip report? :surfweb:I'm anxious to hear about your Universal adventures. We're going there for the first time in August.

JenB - Sorry to hear about the DU deal falling through but glad to hear that you were able to get a room for DL.:goodvibes

Debra - I'm going Goofy too.:goofy: I didn't realize there was a goofy thread. I'll have to check it out.

Richard
- Congrats on the tri.:woohoo: Sounds like you had a good race despite the heat. We've been very lucky so far this year. We usually have weather in the 90s and lots of humidity but it's actually been a pretty pleasant summer so far.

Mel - congrats on registering for the goofy.:yay: I'm so glad that I'll have lots of teammates out there with me on the course.

Jackie - Are you doing the Richmond marathon in November? (I noticed a picture in your signature) DH, Mike is doing the marathon - I am considering the half. Can't decide - I might be doing a half in October and I also don't know if it's too close to the goofy. Have you run Richmond before? Is it very hilly?

I went to the running store today to get a new pair of shoes. The ones I have been using for the last two years have been discontinued :headache:so I tried on many new pairs. Nothing felt the same as my old ones. I'm hoping these new ones work out.

Yes, I'm doing Richmond. A group of us from my Galloway group are doing the full together, and a bunch more are doing the half. I haven't done it before, but I've heard it's mostly flat and finishes downhill. It's supposed to be a great race with lots of support. I signed up for Richmond long before I considered Goofy, so Richmond is going to be my race for time and Goofy will be just for fun. I'm training seriously for Richmond and will adjust when I'm done!

I'm just beginning to put things together - are you Optimator's DW? I lurk on the BOT thread occasionally, but I know him mostly because he gave DD and me his Indy tickets last year. He was our #1 hero for a very long time!

Yes, Optimator is my DH. He was very happy to send you those tickets. We're glad that someone was able to enjoy them.

Do you have a hotel booked for Richmond? We still haven't decided where we are staying.

I do, but I don't know where! :rotfl:

I'm rooming with one of my group members, and she booked a room in the block that our director had reserved for Galloway members somewhere near the race start, and that's all I know! I'm taking Friday off to get to the Expo, and I THINK we're staying Saturday night, but I'm not even sure about that... :confused3

I'm trying to talk Christa into coming to Richmond...

Jackie

Just checked dvcmember.com and my waitlist for a BLT studio for marathon weekend came through. Yeah! :thumbsup2

Have officially started training for DL 1/2. Got a new strength training program last week and it had me in pain for two days...couldn't get up from chairs or walk up stairs. But I'm better now! Scared to try it again but will try to get to the gym tomorrow. :woohoo:

Hope everyone had a great 4th! We were up in Truckee (near Lake Tahoe) with the family. My DH and I got away for one night in Reno for date night, which was so nice.

Later...

:banana::banana::banana::banana:
That's fabulous news! We're staying at BLT also (1-bedroom unit) and if I remember correctly, so is JenB.

Where are you staying for the DL half? We'll be at Paradise Pier. Come to think of it, we should start making plans for our WISH meet. I know there was a thread somewhere, but i don't think it's been very active lately.

We'll be staying at the Grand Californian for 3 nights. And I can't wait to meet people face to face!

Jeanne: Congrats to your daughter on the proposal. :goodvibes

Yes, we will be at the Disneyland Hotel for the 1/2 and at BLT in a 1 bedroom for the full over marathon weekend. I agree we need to set up a meet-- I'm starting to get excited for the weekend. My running has been going ok, but the weight loss is lagging a bit behind... At least the 1/2 is keeping me from getting too nervous about doing Goofy :scared1: I'm having a "what was I thinking" moment

Life around here is mostly centered around kid birthday parties-- we have one every weekend from now until we go to CA. My DD will be 6 at the end of the month, so I've been spending a fair amount of time trying to get her party all planned and together.

Slinking back in...I gained 6 lbs on my vacation. Now I can't seem to get motivated. Our TM also went on the fritz last week. We need an entire new motor, which probably won't arrive until next week, then we have to set up a date with the repair person. It's great that we're getting a new motor while it's under warranty, but I am not good about working out without my TM...work is crazy-busy, and I just feel worn.

But, I'm going to try to get back into the DIS. I know everyone is super-busy. It's great to hear about all the race plans! Julie -- I'm so glad you are coming for the marathon, that is awesome!

I'm going to make sure I get some extra rest. My attitude vastly improves with enough sleep!

Maria :upsidedow

Maria - Sorry to hear about your TM. I hope it is fixed soon. At least it looks like the weather here might finally be decent, so walking or running outside may be an option. As for the 6 lbs - it's vacation. These things happen. I think that's the bare minimum weight gain for me on vacation. And speaking of vacations, how was yours? I'm dying to hear all about it! :thumbsup2

JenB - Understand completely about the "what was I thinking?" Like I told Kathy, I'm concentrating on Richmond. Once that's over, I suspect I'll completely freak out! :scared1:

Maria - Welcome back! It's not the same here without you. Hope life returns to normal soon.

Julie - It's so hard to imagine that it could just be getting decent enough weather to run outside! We're having a cool spell (82 degrees this afternoon), so it was almost enjoyable.

This is only the second week all year that I've actually worked out twice midweek. I finally feel like I'm getting back into a training routine! Monday night I rode the stationary bike, and tonight I ran 3 miles. Saturday we're scheduled to do 12 miles.

Jackie

Hey Cousins. I am so jealous hearing of everyone's runs! When I was burned out last year I couldn't stand to hear about running. Now that I can't run much... I really miss and want it!!!

My girls have their last day of summer school tomorrow, then I get them all the time! ACKKKK!!! Kate was struggling with Kindergarten this year, so I have spent this summer tutoring her, plus with summer school. I met with her SS teacher last night and WOW, she has improved. I just hope her regular teachers understand that and don't treat her differently. She worked so hard.

Anyway... Still pregnant and seem to be getting bigger. I don't see it as I wear oversized T-shirts everyday. But like yesterday when I dressed up for my meeting, I was like YOWWWWWW. I need some more maternity clothes. I only have 4 shirts and 2 pants. When I am at home I wear casual stretchy pants and Paul's (DH) knit shorts!!! :)

I feel for you, Jen, not that I can do anything more than give a little moral support. At this point "still pregnant and getting bigger" has to be a good thing.

I ran tonight to guage my water loss while running. 21 minutes in 98 degrees with 2.2 lbs loss in weight, no wonder I go through so much water on a long run!

Hey Ohana Cousins~ Just a quick note to say hello, hope everyone is well and enjoying good weather.

Jack ~ Hakuna Matata

I know I've been MIA from the DIS for a week--took a little mental health break. Mostly off FB, too. And a training one, although that's related to some sort of virus I caught which has had me coughing up a lung every hour on the hour. Apparently I wasn't too missed though.... :rolleyes1

Tomorrow, 7/11: Christa has a 4 miler in Charlotte!

Congrats to Corinna's 10 mile race on the 4th of July! Corinna, we'd love to hear from you. :flower3:

Robert: I was wondering if you and Linda were going Goofy. I figured the answer was probably yes, but didn't know the status of Linda's rehab and the stuff you've been unable to talk about. Hope you are both doing well.

Jackie: You've been doing so darned well with the training. Your Goofy is going to rock! Bill's too, I'm sure. I'm loving hearing about your LRs back-to-back with hike/trail run, midweek training, etc. You're really kicking up the intensity, and the Richmond race will be yours, I tell you, yours!

Richard: You know how I feel about the heat. I don't like getting hot and sweaty, even for the best reasons. And those involve bling and ice cream. If it's a race. :rolleyes1

JenB: WTG with your local 5K. Excellent pace, and don't you just love that you're able to do a race on the spur of the moment like that? So cool. :woohoo: What fun that you, JenG, and Jeanne will be able to meet at the DL 1/2. In the meantime, have a great time planning DD's 6th b-day party--are you doing a theme?

Jeanne: WOO HOO on the good news about the Greek's proposal. Details, woman, I want details. Beg, borrow or steal someone's internet, dagnabbit! Congratulations to all! A Disney wedding, perhaps? And in other news, how is your NYC marathon training progressing?

Julie: Speaking of training, yay for being able to do the marathon. I know you've been in a bit of a slump, so what's your getting back into the groove, training-to-train plans looking like?

Kathy: It's probably too late for shoe suggestions, but have you checked eBay? I've been able to find some of my favorite, discontinued shows that way. And Doh! I knew you were going Goofy. You're on the list. :goodvibes Sorry about that.

JenG: My, that's a pretty intense strength training program (and one reason I tend to avoid strength training :rotfl:). I hope you're feeling better and :thumbsup2 for going back at it. Date night in Reno sounds fun, fun, fun. I've never been there, but have wanted to go. And :woohoo: for BLT!

Maria: Aww, so you gained wait on vacation. (Who doesn't?) I'll bet 1/2 of it is from a lack of hydration while vacationing and sodium retention. It'll come right off. And are you the woman who lost a pound a day. Yes, yes, I think you are! :yay: You just need to get back on that TM as soon as it's fixed. So what you need is a date with the TM repair person, pronto. Not as much fun as date night with DH (see JenG) but very useful. With any luck, your TM repair person will be a hot young guy in uniform. :lmao: And I second Julie's request for details on the vacation.

Jen: Oh, I didn't know about your DD and summer school. You rock, and I'm sure her teachers will notice her improvement and not treat her any differently. Or they'll have to answer to you. :rotfl2: Gotta love the oversized t-shirts and comfy clothes. Are you feeling good at this point in the pregnancy, aside from the business/maternity clothes issue?

Jack: Hi there! I miss seeing you around! :goodvibes

As for me: Not much to speak of. I've been sick this week and skipped three--yes, three--days of workouts. Haven't run since Saturday's 5 miles. Not sure if I'll be able to run tomorrow, and I'm supposed to be in training for the Baltimore 1/2. Makes me a bit anxious, but the illness has settled into my lungs...

And mentally I'm just not in training mode recently, either. Nothing major, just in a bit of a funk--too many other things demanding my time, and not things I'm enjoying for the most part. I'm sure getting sick is coloring my perceptions of everything, though. :upsidedow

Oh, and I want to make sure this gets special note!

Mel's birthday is tomorrow (Saturday).

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MEL!!
party::bday::drinking1:cake:

You're one of the WISHers who holds us together, and a great friend. Thank you for all that you do, but more important, thank you for just being you: your kindness, sense of humor, love of ST! :cheer2:

Just a quickie post to wish Mel......HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!
party:party:party::bday:party:party:party:

I usually don't go online over the weekend, so i had to get that in!

Training is going well......I'm right on track, but the weight loss is alot slower than I would have wanted. I even managed to find myself a race buddy online! It is a woman from Miami who is my age and has done NYC before. (She gets free entries because she owns a racing store.) She says the course WILL be open to traffic by the time we get back into Manhattan (about Mile 21) because it is only closed for 6:30 GUN time, but there will be water and porta-potties for about 8 hours and the finish line will still be open. She says I will definitely finish in the dark, but I will not be alone. Whew!

Mel - Happy Birthday

Jack - Well, at least we are well here.

Debra - If you're trying to avoid hot and sweaty, then it's going to be a long Goofy. As to the bling and ice cream, how about an Ohana Kitchen Sink get together after getting the race medals in January?:upsidedow

Richard: I'm all about an ice cream meet after the race-- we love Beaches and Cream popcorn::

Mel: HAPPY BIRTHDAY :cheer2:

Maria: I hear you on the broken exercise equiptment-- our ellipse screen got fried the other night, it looked sort of like a display from the Matrix-- lots of characters rolling over the screen but not something you could actually read. The machine itself worked fine, but I realize I like the feedback of knowing how many RPM I'm doing and how long I've been on the thing. We just got a replacement screen so I 'll be able to cross train again. I hope yours if fixed soon.

Debra: Sorry things have been crazy for you. I feel like I jsut can't get ahead this summer myself. It's all I can do to keep up with work, parenting, and getting in my miles most of the housework and other stuff I'm supposed to be doing has fallen way down on my list. The party will be Webkinz themed-- if anyone has great ideas for a 6 year old's party I'd love to hear them. We plan on having the kids do carnival games to sort of simulate the mini games in Webkinz world online. They will earn "kinzcash" and be able to buy candy, etc with it at the end of the party.
