Team 'Ohana 2009: No One Left Behind

Mel - So sorry about Tigger. I know it's for the best, but that doesn't make it one bit easier. Good news on the MRI, at least. :woohoo:

Jen - pixiedust: for Sadie as well. It's incredibly difficult to watch our babies age. I understand about the tail - Mystic had a gorgeous tail, but when she got sick she started losing all the fur in it and it became basically a stick.

Richard - I admire you for trying Summit Plummet. I want to get the nerve to do that, but don't know that I ever will. DD did it during her last trip and loved it. Personally, I'll take Crush 'n Gusher any day! 3PM sounds great for ice cream though!

Took the dogs for a short walk last night, then actually did a very short Pilates workout. Didn't break out the DVD, but did what I could remember. I can feel it today!

Jackie

Mel - I am so sorry about Tigger. :grouphug: to you and your family.

Maria - Your non-trip report trip report is great. I'm looking forward to more. :thumbsup2 BTW, I think you made the right decision about not going to that meeting.

Ok, feeling like a threadkiller here.

I booked my marathon weekend airfare today! Whoo hoo! So, now I have the hotel and air booked. I'm thinking that registering for the race might be a good idea at this point, so that's next on my list. I'm just happy to have everything falling into place.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled quiet thread...

Everyone blames you, Julie. ;) I don't have airfare yet, but have been registered for the half for a long time. Glad things are falling into place for you!

I got notified today that I won the Twin Cities 10 Mile lottery - apparently only about 60% of people get "selected". That will be October 4 this year and I am IN!

5K Bear River Crawl for me on Saturday. I'd try to beat last year's time if I could remember what that was....

ETA: According to my dusty old WISH journal, that's right around 34. Should be doable. :thumbsup2

Airfare for Janaury? Do you think now is the best time to buy, or would I be better off to wait a bit and watch the fares? I don't fly enough to really know when the best time to buy plane tickets is.

Summit Plummit......been there, done that...... no big deal! I was smart enough to wear shorts over my bathing suit though. I did it around 10 years ago and at that time there were always lots of guys at the bottom just checking out the wedgies! :rotfl::scared1::rotfl: I'll meet for ice cream... and even though I really don't like ice cream I can always join you for something cold....like a margarita!

Mel: so sorry about the loss of your pet. There's been alot of that on this board lately.

Jen: ditto about Sadie.....poor thing in her little "cone of shame" (Did you see "Up"?)

Julie: congrats on getting your airfare already. Earlier this week I booked our flights to NYC and Vegas......gotta wait until this credit cycle closes before I book anything else!

Corinna - Congrats on getting into the Twin Cities 10 Mile race. You are the queen of racing these days! :thumbsup2

Richard - As far as airfare goes, I bought now because jetBlue just released their Jan fares and they had the times (and nonstop flights) that worked best for us (we have to work around my parents' schedules since they're taking care of the kids). A decent airfare from Boston to WDW is $200-$250, so when I saw something in that range, I decided to book it. If the fare goes down, we can get a credit and put it towards our April trip, so I won't even be upset if the fares goes down. Plus, I'm a bit OCD when it comes to any WDW trip, so it was killing me that I had the hotel booked but not the airfare. Now I can relax and perhaps start running regularly so that I can begin my training next month! :scared1:

Jeanne - I'm so impressed that you've done Summit Plummet. :worship: I don't think I'll ever be brave enough for that one (one of my dear friends renamed it "Enema Lane" - 'nuff said  ). I'll be happy to share ice cream and/or margaritas with my cousins. Hey, do you think anyone makes margarita flavored ice cream? That could be interesting.

Debra, I'd love to hear your thoughts on margarita flavored ice cream. Or perhaps you'd prefer bourbon flavored?

Julie: i just had to pop in and tell you that there is an ice cream place in the Village that my kids took me to and they had the weirdest flavors you could ever imagine. They also had really crazy decorated cakes - one was called "Poop in the Grass" cake! Anyhow, I had Sesame flavored ice-cream which was grey in color! it was good, but intense. My son had Corn, which was excellent and my daughter had Ginger, which was also great. If anyone is interested i can find out the name and address.

Julie - I'd have to lean towards Margarita ice cream over bourbon ice cream. Thanks for the airfare input.

Maria - If I remember correctly, you are also a Torchwood fan. Did you know that BBC America is having a Torchwood mini-series coming up? Next week I think.

The 5 episode Torchwood (instead of a season 3), runs next Mon-Fri. I am totally ready, it is supposed to be phenomenal!

DS is reading The Hobbit this summer. He didn't get a structured reading list for 6th grade, so I decided he could use some help from mom in picking his books. After he finishes, The Martian Chronicles are up next. Just so you all don't think I'm too dictatorial, he loves sci fi.

I'm hoping to be back with a decent update later this morning. If not, it's coming this weekend, I promise!

Maria :upsidedow

Maria: How old is your son? I may have a great book for him. Oh, I see he's in 6th grade.....that's just about perfect. Here's a link:
http://www.amazon.com/Eyes-Dragon-Stephen-King/dp/0451166582

It's a Stephen King novel that was written with young readers in mind. My kids loved it because they felt like they were reading an adult book. It is long, but all the chapters are very short (like 3-4 pages) so you can pick it up and put it down at any time. I read it and really loved it. I had my own little reading program with my kids every summer where they would read to get vacation spending money (usually for a trip to WDW!) All four read this book and enjoyed it, which is more than I can say for most of the books they read. I really think he will like this one.

Hello cousins!

I'm still under the weather, and now DOOD is sick. (Of course, sick for DOOD means he's sure he can run this weekend, just not sure he can run 20 miles. I hate him. :rotfl2:)

This weekend we have the following:

Corinna: The Bear River Crawl, 5K

Mel: Hugs to you and your whole family for the passing of Tigger. You've done a very loving thing, ending his pain. I know you're hurting, and hope you can remember the good years you had with him. And I'm glad your MRI has given you the okay to keep running. At least it will help you manage the stress.

Jen: Oh, what a difficult decision to have to make with Sadie. Like with Mel's situation, I know you'll do the humane thing. I'm just sorry Sadie's suffering with a tumor and that you have to make such decisions. We all love our pets so much that it hurts to think of them in pain. Let me know if there's anything I can do? We have pet-food bakeries here. Would Sadie like some treats?

Corinna: Congratulations on your 4th of July run. I love how you go after your goals with gusto. Set your sights on the 10 miler and conquered it. And you left your goal in the dust. :woohoo: The TC 10 miler should be a good race and I can't wait to hear your plans for that one. And for DL, of course! :thumbsup2 Thanks for the offer to borrow your Garmin. DOOD has made the same gracious offer, and it doesn't require an extension cord. Strangely enough, though, I want my own. :rolleyes1

Mike: You'll always be one of my heroes. Especially if you promise to wear a cute little skintight costume. Think of it as especially modest running tights. :upsidedow

Richard: I for one don't think there's ever enough ice cream in one's life. I think they should offer it at the water stops. Except then I'd never finish. :lmao: An ice cream might be what I need to tempt me into a Summit Plummet. But that would require me owning a bathing suit, wouldn't it? Not great at massages, although I do flick a pretty mean towel. :lmao: I'm generally in favor of an afternoon time and 3 p.m. sounds pretty good to me.

Jackie: Hill work is haaaaarrrrrrd. A personal nememis. Your pace was excellent, too! Oh, and thanks for offering to send messages about my Garmin wishes to DOOD. If I thought he'd listen.... (Seriously, he doesn't buy me running/athletic goodies anymore, not since I actually started running. Before, he'd surprise me with that kind of thing to "encourage me." Now that I've taken the hint.... :confused3 He's so persnickety!)

Julie: Now, see, you're a savvy shopper. New Garmin and a new sweetie, and one who comes with a discount for the farmer. Very smart, very convenient. I like it. :rotfl2: I've been really back about doing Pilates myself. Or should I say really good at not doing Pilates. And I can tell in my core. That's one thing I absolutely cannot let fall by the wayside this year. So I'll have you (and Jackie) hold me accountable, okay?

Where are you booked for the marathon, btw? (Y'all are making me feel like I'm the last one NOT booked. Just like last year. :rolleyes1)

Maria: Bob or beach, Bob or beach. Well, considering you only get to see Bob in 2-D, I think you made the right decision! And it sounds as if you had a great time. How frustrating about the TM, though. Your time at DTD sounds like tons of fun, though I admit I hadn't heard about Tren-D. And I'm so proud of you for enjoying your time at Rainforest but not gorging yourself at Ghiradelli's, instead choosing the more reasonable pretzel rod & saving it for later! :woohoo: I'm really looking forward to the next part of your covert TR, as it's been YEARS since I've been to Universal. P.S. Your son's reading taste reminds me a lot of mine at his age.

Jeanne: Oh, I like the idea of an ice cream and imbibe party! Why choose which sin to enjoy. Go for both! (Or is that go for broke? Very fitting for the marathon weekend at Disney.) How's the NYC marathon training going? Wedding planning? Are we going to hear about the Greek's romantic (I'm sure) proposal? To your DD, of course, for those who got lost in the story.

To JenB, JenG, Kathy, Sunny, Denny, Robert, Linda, Christa and Nancy! Hi cousins! :grouphug:

I'm liking the idea of a margarita-flavored ice cream. A little lime, a little tequila, maybe some triple sec... But Julie's got me pegged. A bourbon ice cream, with chocolate chunks. Mmmmmm.... Of course, now I know why Aloha Jeff says he runs to eat. :yay:

As for me: Too busy with mundane things that eat up my time: writing/editing projects, doctor's appointments, sleeping 12 hours a day, cleaning my entire place because I can't find something I'm looking for? (Don't you just hate how not being able to find one thing can set off that chain of events?) At least lots of things are going to Goodwill.

In other news, has anyone here read Finger Lickin' Fifteen by Janet Evanovich yet? I'm number 270 on the local library wait list. :scared1: In the meantime, I've finally started Neal Stephenson's ***********, the first in his Baroque Cycle series. Our library, like so many others, is looking at budget cuts this year. I'm attending an informational meeting next week to see what's being planned. We really rely on our library for lots of things, so I'd hate to see anything cut. We saw Julie and Julia, Woody Allen's Whatever Works and Harry Potter, too. Next week we see previews of The Ugly Truth and G-Force.

Next time I log in, which will hopefully be this weekend, I will have a working draft of my Dopey training. I'm really thinking I won't do B2B LRs every weekend. I don't know if I can take it, mentally at least, and think I'll need at least a few weekends which are just one LR. Officially I'm in training for Baltimore, so am even toying with delaying the start of the B2B runs until after that.

Hi gang!!

Just a quick drop-in note to say I registered for the WDW marathon today!:yay:
I'll be back soon for a catch-up posting.

Richard: Yay! You're doing the marathon! Another WISHer for me to cheer! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Deb: Hope you and DOOD are on the mend.

Only because you asked......wedding plans are in the very preliminary stages. There are so many variables that come into play and each and every step is a major decision/compromise. First we need to determine exactly where the wedding shall be and by that I mean state, not reception venue. Then we have to coordinate a date with the church, reception hall and my daughter's academic schedule (she's going for an MBA in the evenings) I've also just learned that traditionally the big, fat, Greek wedding is the big, fat, financial responsibility of the bride alone and so we may be having a small elegant NC wedding instead! I didn't want to post any details until we had some of the basics ironed out, which hopefully will be soon. What I can tell you is that it will probably take place within the next 12 months or sooner. As soon as I know more, I'll definitely share the details.

I'm trying to post a few photos, but photobucket has changed since I used it last and I have to re-educate myself! Be back later!

Let's see if this works........

Official interpretation of the knee thing is the old ACL sprain may not have healed well. Stretch, strengthen, PT if I want it, big ol' football player brace if I want it (she said she doesn't imagine I'd actually run with it though :rolleyes1) or surgery so they can make sure the cartilage is okay. I've chosen the strength and stretch option. I am slowly increasing my mileage. This will be my 3rd weekend of B2B so we'll see how long the knee and ankle hold out.

Thanks for all the good thoughts about our pet situation. We're trying to find a rescue organization where we can donate his things, unless one of y'all need 40lbs of cat litter and a cat gym ;)

Debra...sorry to hear your under the weather. Sending some virtual chicken soup your way. You asked awhile back...DH is doing the half.

Richard...congrats on registering! We just started the Torchwood series from Netflix...I like it!

Julie...congrats on airfare! That must be the hardest part.

Jeanne...great pictures...but ouch on paying for the wedding. I paid for both of mine...now I have 2 daughters :headache:

Corinna...good luck in your race this weekend! I've been meaning to ask you...where do you get all your fabulous recipes? Got anything for picky eaters?

Sounds like we have a fabulous Ohana ice cream meet in the works! I may have one night solo. DD16 has to be back at school on Monday this year so the fam may head home a day early without me. Of course that means I'll have to drive myself home...after Goofy...

Good thing I don't drive a stick anymore ;)

Hey cousins!!!! Just wanted to pop in. I worked out with my friend on Wednesday and so proud of myself that I am keeping it going. Not as fast as I used to be, but faster than a newbie!!! We went out to eat tonight in celebration of my new job... first week and it went really well!

Mel - I am rooting for you with Goofy... glad training is going well. I keep hoping you will want to run with me again after this endeavor!! Glad to hear Jeff is planning to run again also!!!

Debra - Sadie is pretty spoiled and has been her whole 10 years. Her cone drives me insane, has made damage to walls, and knocks the girls over... but we still love her. A large dog and cone don't mix. Poor baby. No wonder she loves to go on walks with me lately, it's cone free time!!! She is also super attached to me, always has been. I walk out of the kitchen to the bedroom for 2 seconds, she is right there with me. It drives everyone in the family nuts!!!

Jeanne - That is SOOOO Cool... Almost cooler than how I was proposed to!!!

Corinna - Do you have to crawl your 5K????? or are bears crawling after you???

Wow - I'm the only one with a race this weekend? That's unusual! I just have a couple of minutes before I need to head out!

Mel - what recipes are you talking about? I mostly get them from cookbooks. I have a few. ;)

Jen - I did not see anyone crawling last year, but I will if I have to! I hope it does not come to that this morning. I also did not see any bears last year. I am not sure why it is called a crawl, but it does have a significant portion that is on a dirt road!

Jeanne - congratulations to your daughter and the Greek! What a beautiful ring!

And with that, I'm off. Fortunately, no rain this morning! :cool1:

Mike: You're always be one of my heroes. Especially if you promise to wear a cute little skintight costume. Think of it as especially modest running tights. :upsidedow
Where to begin...

1. I was going to say something like real men don't wear "costumes" but since we're talking skintight it seems kind of mute.

2. What sort of sling would my behind be in if I suggested such running wear to one of your ladies?

3. Mr. Incredible seems to be taken by the same guy every year at WDW. Any other Spandex fashion suggestions?

4. Can I wear my cute little PJ pants I wore for the half last year over my skintights?
