Team Mickey - Biggest Loser "No Excuses" 2012 Challenge

After I more technical question that left us with some great ideas, I am going with a fun QOTD for Sunday.

QOTD for Sunday, 2/5/2012: What is your favorite color? Feel free to share why too.

Mine is blue, particularly light blue. I like how I look wearing it and I find it relaxing. Last I knew, Behr, who makes the Disney paint, has a color called Fairy Godmother Blue. My parents have decided it is time to redo my bedroom (thank goodness ;)) and I want it painted that color. I think it will really make my bedroom have a calming effect. :)

Hi all,

Been so so today! Had basketball with both girls today and Ash had a friend over to work on a science project. Cleaned up the kitchen and most of our bedroom. Am in the middle of doing laundry as well. Brian and I are catching up on Top Chef Texas right now.

Going to have a sort of busy day. Having lunch with some church friends tomorrow afternoon and then going to visit with some friends that Ash will be puppy sitting for later this month and then we're going to a Super Bowl party at least until half time. We will make our spicy chicken dip to bring. We will have it all prepared and throw it in the oven when we get there.

I took at walk to the ATM this afternoon. I was just dying to walk outside again! The walk was a total of about 1.75 miles! It was cold but it gave me a chance to relax and listen to some music and get some fresh air. Hoping to walk again this coming week at the mall with a friend and/or outside!

Enjoy the Super Bowl!!!!! GO PATRIOTS!!!!!

LOVETOSCRAP Congrats on the looser fitting clothes! Woo hoo! I am experiencing that (a little bit). On tops more than jeans, for me. Which is weird. When I was younger it seems that my pant size was the first to go down. This whole aging thing and how my metabolism changed from my teens to 20's to 30's is wild.

I know exactly what you're talking about with the daily weigh ins. I think it keeps me motivated to know that everything I do on a daily basis is helping me. Or I can see how my slip up of of a meal might affect me. I don't throw away the whole week if I get off track. I just see what the scale says the next morning. I even have a note in my phone for my weight every day of this challenge so far (except for when I was out of town). I also note if I go over my points, or if I had a significant loss or any gain at all and what might have caused it. What I can tell from this data is that when I have been off my plan at all, and go back the next day and eat on plan all day, make sure and get extra water in, and do my planned workout, that I get right back on track. If I had to just rely on once weekly weigh ins I might have given up already. I know from one week to the next it might not look like much progress, but I often see weight come off in the middle of the week, and by weigh in day its kind of creeping back, then it goes down again the next week, and stays off. Its weird like that.

I know this isn't the RECOMMENDED number of times to weigh in a week, but it works for me.

The pale green blue around the edges of sunset. DH 's eye color!

:wave2:

Quiet day here. My stomach isn't feeling great so just made some Wonton Soup for lunch. I started with a recipe but didn't have most of the things that were supposed to go in it so I ended up just throwing things together. I had some mini frozen wontons that are low in fat and calories so I threw those in some chicken broth with some ginger and garlic. I was supposed to use Broccoli Slaw but when I pulled it out of the back of the fridge it was slimey :crazy2: so I threw it out and used some chopped up fresh spinach and some thin sliced mushrooms. Turned out pretty good.

So to go along with my last post I weighed in this morning and it says that I am down 2 pounds from Friday (which would be 1 pound off since yesterday). Well I know that isn't right-- I did not lose 2 pounds of fat since Friday! I am guessing it is because I didn't drink very much yesterday so I am a little dehydrated. I would expect to be back at my Saturday weight tomorrow. Except that if I am still feeling nauseous all day I probably won't eat much. Of course if I do start feeling better then there is a bag of Doritos upstairs to be shared for the Superbowl so that could be bad too! Either way, as long as I can maintain my current pace of a pound a week I am happy. I just try really hard not to think about how long it will take me to reach my goal, though! That can be a little discouraging, especially when I know that I will have many weeks of no loss and will probably bounce up and down a few pounds over the summer.

I wanted to share this that I found online today. Some of these things are really interesting: http://www.rd.com/slideshows/13-things-you-never-knew-about-your-weight-slideshow/#slideshow=slide1

Everyone enjoy the SuperBowl (that will be watching) and remember that it is a time to have fun but not an excuse to overindulge. Make your plans for what you will eat ahead of time and stick to it.

But if you do go overboard the wagon will be stopped at your house tomorrow morning! :cheer2: Jump right back on and plan for some lighter meals for the next few days to balance it out. Or we will get the wagon moving and make you run after it so you get some extra exercise in ;) . You won't gain the fat from a few hours of indiscretion-- have a balanced week with a little extra activity and you will be surprised at how happy you and the scale will be on Friday. :goodvibes:cheer2:

Everyone have a great ON PLAN day!

QOTD for Sunday, 2/5/2012: What is your favorite color? Feel free to share why too.

I seem to have been favoring green colors lately. Especially since the last 3 shirts I have bought are bright lime green.

One of the shirts I can't wear though, it's my "I did it" shirt from the WDW 1/2. I didn't realize that they were woman's shirts, and the CM didn't bother to really say anything to me about that... I didn't find out till I was back home again in Indiana. :confused3

I finally made some progress in weigh-in this week! I've only been back running once since the 1/2 Marathon, I've REALLY got to get back into it! I've put into my budget this year to attend the 1/2 again next year. I'm also looking into a few other events closer to home throughout this year.

Well, I changed my plans for the day. The girls said they wanted to watch the Superbowl with daddy so I decided that I would make a fun dinner of Superbowl snacks--my way! So we had light and healthy versions of some common things. I made Baked Mozzarella Sticks with low fat cheese wrapped in Spring Roll wrappers instead of using bread crumbs, served with low sugar Marinara sauce. Then BBQ chicken mini tacos with wonton wrappers as the shells, a Rotisserie Chicken shredded, and added our favorite bbq sauce and cole slaw mix with light cole slaw dressing. That was my favorite but no one else likes Cole Slaw so they thought it was a little dry. (duh!) Then we had Southwest Stuffed Potato Skins and Buffalo Chicken bites. I will try to post recipes on the BL Recipe thread. We did have our traditional Superbowl bag of Doritos.

Everything was low fat and had no added butter or oil. The Buffalo Chicken didn't go over well but no one in the family really likes Buffalo wings so that was to be expected. I think they might have been better as the Mini Tacos than just plain.

I guess we spent the day watching the Super Bowl because it was really quiet today. Now, I can't complain too much because my day ended up being very busy and I finally got on here-way past my bedtime. ;)

QOTD for Monday, Feb. 6, 2012: Share a random fact about yourself.

I can't iron. I want to, but I am terrible at it. I always end up needing help.

I played the clarinet from 5th grade to 12th grade. I don't think I ever mastered marching in the same left-right pattern as the person in front of me.

I have a pencil collection. I have a pencil from almost every place I've been plus others from people who live elsewhere or visited elsewhere. I counted how many I have a few years ago and lost count. I think I have about 400 different pencils. I have lots from the Saniro (Hello Kitty) store.

Quote: I'm not really counting points or calories, just making wiser choices. Seems to be working well enough at this point. I don't have a favorite color.

Yesterday dh and I drove across the mountains (on dry pavement!) to visit his dad in the hospital. We felt he was making excellent progress after the stroke. We could understand him just fine and his mobility is increasing. He will probably be at the rehab part of the hospital for another couple weeks. After that he should be well enough to go home and mil will be able to help him if he needs it. :cool1: drove home, swinging by Costco for a pizza and salad for the kids. Was a woman on a mission so didn't notice all the samples that were out! Got home and that cooked then dh and I had a church dinner. It was a fundraiser for the youth; they provided entertainment and an excellent dinner--made by an adult! ;) when that was over we had volunteered to clean up. Worked like dogs and were finished around 10. It was a very long day!

Today has been quieter, except I think I am getting a cold. When I finish this I am going to curl up with my book and some chamomile tea! Have already taken some extra vitamin c, nasal decongestant, and aspirin! Know I sub tomorrow so won't be able to lounge around! ;)

Have a great week, Mickeys!

Checking in to close out a very busy weekend! I sang for all three services at our church, which was wonderful but sort of exhausting given all the party prep I was doing for tonight. We went to Red Robin last night for dinner as the fridge was jammed with party foods, and I did a really fast half-hour on the bike. I was drenched! But so glad to get a workout in.

As for the party - it was great! We had about 40 people here, which was *insane.* My plan was totally derailed because I just didn't have time to set anything aside for myself! I had two pieces of thin crust mushroom pizza and a few nibbles of other things. One hard lemonade and then Diet Coke. My real splurge was having a couple of brownies, so I'm thinking I actually did okay overall, especially as I had eaten very light for breakfast and lunch. We'll see how the scale reacts on weigh-in day (Tuesday)!

QOTDs:

I don't think I have a favorite color that's held constant. I seem to go in waves with colors that I get obsessed with. I think right now it might be purple - that eggplant-y dark purple.

And an interesting fact...I was a mall Easter Bunny when I was in high school! I also sang lead for an alternative rock band when I was in HS and college.

Most of our guests left around halftime (young kids & bedtime), which let us get the house reassembled during the second half. I was going to be happy with whichever team won, so I'm a happy camper tonight for my Giants even while I'm sad for my Patriots! Made the kids' school lunches and watched Downton Abbey as a wind-down. I'll have to leave it on the DVR as DH started snoring on the couch halfway through. :lmao:

Now it's time for me to go to bed! Tomorrow morning I'm planning to start Week 3 of Jillian's Ripped in 30, and the service guy is coming to diagnose and hopefully fix the wonky console on my otherwise awesome exercise bike. It'll be a really busy workweek, too - gotta get some good sleep!

XO

It is nice to sleep in your own bed and eat your own food before a race but really nothing compares to a Disney race! :tink:

Well, I changed my plans for the day. The girls said they wanted to watch the Superbowl with daddy so I decided that I would make a fun dinner of Superbowl snacks--my way!

Sounds yummy! :thumbsup2 And it sounds like everyone managed to eat and enjoy themselves, too. ;)

When I worked at Disneyland one of my jobs was hand sewing the names on the Mickey Mouse ears. :smickey:

Yay for wiser choices! Hope that you are feeling better soon! :flower3:

QOTD for Monday, Feb. 6, 2012: Share a random fact about yourself.

I suck at math. Regular math I'm good at, Algebra I can hold my own at, but do not ask me about fractions, percentages, and decimals. I missed all of that when we moved from CA to CT. In CA we hadn't done that yet but CT had done it the grade before. But, with putting 4 kids through school, I'm learning some of the skills.

I hate doing dishes!!! I will scrub toilets before I'll do dishes. All of my kids can wash dishes because I detest it so much.

I'm not a morning person.

I've always wanted to learn sign language. I've always loved it but once while at the grocery store a few years ago, I saw a deaf man trying so hard to communicate to the customer service lady and he was getting so frustrated. Another staff member walked up and started signing to him, his face just lit up because he got the help he needed. I also think it would be a great job at Disney.

QOTD for Monday, Feb. 6, 2012: Share a random fact about yourself.

AOTD: I was trying to decide if I was going to go gross and tell you randomness about my neck surgery - but no. Then I thought, cute, I love penguins, but that is just kinda bleh. Hmmmm, random about me?
I was into Theatre in middle school and high school. My first real job in the high school theatre was being the "Wardrobe Mistress" which meant I had to help the actors with their costumes and fix them if they got messed up - so exciting! But one performance the guy who wore the Crocodile costume was sick and I was the only one tall enough to fit. So - I was the Croc in Peter Pan for my first ever "walk on roll"!!

:wave2:

Just have a little time to myself today. DD11 wasn't feeling well this morning so I let her sleep in and just took her to school a little bit ago. I love her having PE first thing in the morning so I don't have to worry about her missing any core classes. Then I have to pick up DD16 before her 4th block PE class because she has an ortho appointment. The appt isn't until 2 but the class starts at 12:15 and it is too complicated for her to go to PE, dress out, participate for half the time and then try to pick her up early. They won't let her leave the class to go to the locker room until I arrive-- and then it is a crapshoot as to if they can even reach the PE teacher. Not worth the hassle-- she was more than happy to miss PE.

I forgot to answer the QOTD yesterday. I guess my overall favorite color is dark pink/fuchsia but I really like many colors, it just depends on their application. I love the yellow and light blue in my scrapbook room and the burgundy and greens in my living room. For clothes I do buy a lot of dark and light pink but I also love red and teal and lately have really liked the peachy pink color I keep finding things in. And as a die hard Illini I bleed orange and blue!

Secrets about me? I already told you I hate movies. BAMB already mentioned bad at math (although I am worse than her, I have trouble with even regular math unless you give me a pencil, paper and my fingers and toes!) so I need something else. . .

I carry a handcuff key on my keyring. I have had it since college when I worked in a Juvenile Detention Facility. It is a small standard key so not really noticeable and I am not sure it would even work on most handcuffs today. It has been there for 20 years so at this point why tempt fate by taking it off. I have actually had to use it twice since I left the job! Once was when I was working at the mall and the security guys thought it would be funny to handcuff a coworker of mine to a door (she was a huge flirt and was always playing around with them). I went to look for her and when I found her I pulled out my keys and unlocked her. To this day I don't think the guys ever figured out how she got loose! The 2nd time was while I was teaching in a daycare and a police officer came to talk to the class. She put her handcuffs on 2 kids to show them what it was like then realized she left her keys in the car  She was really :scared1: when I walked over to my desk and got my keys and unlocked them!

Everyone have a great ON PLAN day! Don't forget to send you weights in if you haven't already.

I've also always wanted to learn sign language - when younger I volunteered with disabled kids and some of them used a simplified version called makaton and since then I have wanted to learn proper sign language.
Another random fact about me is that I panic about going to strange places - especially on my own. I worry about the journey, will I be able to park, what will the people be like - I am just a hopeless case. :scared1::scared1:

I do that too. I feel a little better now that I have a GPS in the car but I still panic about going to new places or driving on unfamiliar roads.

Hello, all! I am back from FL and ready to catch up a bit and be the "coach" starting Friday.

I spent 5 days in Jacksonville with DH , & then 8 days with my DSis in Lakeland. Since Dsis just started WW I was ON PLAN the whole time - even weighed in at WW twice & lost 3.2 while gone. TOUGH with DH as he chose places that were hard , but I hid in bathrooms & used my phone to look up nutrition/points & survived. I took oatmeal for breakfast while he went to buffet ( paid for) and ate fruit, smart bagels with cream cheese for lunch.

I am also back at the gym thanks to the hotel gym & my Dsis wanting to go. Hopefully I will be able to stick with it & lose this time, but with all the ds25 drama, it's tough!

Hope everyone is having a good Monday!

I've had a pretty low key day today. I spent some time job searching and cleaning up around the house. I didn't sleep well and TOM sent a cramp, so I took a short nap today.

Julie: Good to hear from you! :yay: for the loss! You did great on vacation!

I am loving hearing your random facts about yourself. I am not that great at math beyond algebra and my mental math leaves something to be desired.

LTS: I have never heard of anyone carrying a handcuff key with them. The story about the daycare had me :rotfl2:!

Oh, and guess who got lost on the street behind her school? :rotfl:

I can tell you some great stories about life with me behind the wheel prior to getting a GPS for Christmas. :rolleyes1

Dinner tonight will likely be fried. My father just got home and we decided on turkey cutlets. I didn't eat until almost 3:30 PM today, so I am good on calories. My sister made brownies yesterday and I was tempted to make dessert for myself for tonight, but I didn't! :yay:

Have a great night everyone! BBL with tomorrow's QOTD.

It was a crazy hectic weekend here. I was able to lurk my way through alot of the posts but never had a chance to sit down and reply...and when I tried earlier today the poof! fairy visited!! Trying again...although much more abbreviated!!

Favorite color? Anything that seems "autumn" - oranges, greens, deep browns...it's my favorite time of the year. We have a lot of big old trees and mountains behind the house and love to look out and see all the changing colors...

We had neighbors over for the Superbowl and I cooked WAY TOO MUCH. I think we'll have leftovers til Thursday. Except for the garbage bread, all my recipes were from a Cooking Light cookbook so that made me feel a little better about what we were serving. The house was pretty evenly divided between those rooting for the Giants and the Pats so it was a pretty boistrous group. :goodvibes Since everyone at the party are actually Bills (not Giants or Pats) fans, we have high hopes for next year that another NY team will take the trophy home!!

My running is getting better I am NOT a natural runner. Once I stop running for a while, it is as if I am starting completely over when I start up again. So right now I am at 45 minutes, 2x a week plus a 40 min interval run. I'll add 10 minutes on next week, and another 10 minutes two weeks later. I hope.

QOTD for Monday, Feb. 6, 2012: Share a random fact about yourself.

I am a morning person.

I have a phobia about missing lunch. If I do, I am totally freaked out. Why?: I was deployed to Iraq several years ago. I didn't always take the time to go to lunch but decided to go one day. While at lunch, a mortar landed outside my office trailer and the whole office was shredded. Since then, lunch and I are best friends. :rolleyes1

:wave2:

This made me laugh so hard!! I'm a former juvenile prosecutor and there were actually times I wished I had such a key!! I forgot all about it til I read your post...:goodvibes

Calling out to Disney movie buffs here - I remember watching a trailer for a new Disney movie about 2.5 years ago (we were on the Magic and it preceded the premiere of "Invincible"). The trailer was about a bunch of kids who went on a school sailing program and had to learn to work together for a long sailing trip. I've googled different combinations of that explanation and have never been able to find the movie. I'd like to see it and think it would be great for our "Family Movie Night". Can anyone help? :confused3

Have a great night everyone!
