Team Mickey - Biggest Loser "No Excuses" 2012 Challenge

Debbie -- mom said to tell you "hi!"

Lisa -- i haven't said this but i've thought it many times....as dumbo-buddy just said we are SOOOO fortunate to have you coaching us!! :thanks:

got a call last night from my SIL who is planning her small family wedding and she asked me to be her matron-of-honor, so another reason to shed some poundage!! it's going to be end of may or first of june, in FL on the beach! i had to buy a 'big girls' swimsuit this summer and i really want to take it to the consignment store this spring!

well i'm off to continue the laundry and my first workout of the year!

oh QOTD -- when i started using MFP (myfitnesspal) a couple months ago i plugged in a chipotle meal and was totally surprised at how much the guac and chips were! it was equal to the calories, actually i think a little more, of my burrito bowl! and i was pleasantly surprised that if i just eat 1/2 of a burrito bowl it's a reasonable meal if i plan for it

Which brings me to my question of the day for Tuesday, January 3, 2012: Are you surprised by how much (or little) you can eat for the calories, depending on which foods you choose? Which meal was most shocking to you?

Like someone else said, at this point very little surprises me. Now disappointment is another issue :rolleyes1 How can there be so many calories in one tiny piece of fudge? ;)

Maria :upsidedow

Quickly popping in before another day of busy chaos. Tomorrow I will be able to 1 - physically get to my computer (DD20's fiancee sleeps here a few days of the week in my 'office'), and 2 - have time to SIT and read and post.

Things are nuts - yesterday was NOT a good day food or otherwise. More in my upcoming new journal herere soon. But, those that know me, it's yet another DS25 issue....I'm a MAJOR stress eater & he is a MAJOR stress producer, PITA, but I love him still.......

Hope everyone is doing better than I am. I would HATE to show a gain week 1, especially since I am up 11 lbs in 2011 over my 1/1/10 WI. OUCH!!! This MUST STOP!!!!

:grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:

I had a slow start this morning. I struggle with nightmares and bad dreams and lately I've been having a lot of them. I did not sleep well last night. Then, I attemted to make a jumbo muffin. I was trying to make a DD style muffin that is GF and tastes good. I am hoping to perfect it so I can add it to our recipe thread. Well, this morning's attempt doesn't even get a yuck. TMI coming-I spit it out. The pancake version turned out edible, but I still have to perfect that too.

Kristina: Thanks for the info about your binder! I have an errand to run today, so I will stop somewhere like Staples and pick up a few things. I'm also going to spend some time printing out lists like LTS suggested and add those to the binder. I'm going to have a conversation with my parents about trying new foods and then meal plan. My mother is 100% on board with me doing the grocery shopping. (I save her money. :rolleyes1) That will help significantly. Tonight I'm cooking a sausage and veggie cacciatore.

That actually brings me to today's QOTD: When I first started WW, the biggest surprises were how little 1 cup of pasta is and the calories and sugar in jarred pasta sauces. More recently, I've had a few surprises with GF foods. The one that comes to mind immediately is flourless chocolate cake. Amanda mentioned the beverage at McDonald's. I didn't know about that one, but I have had a few surprises at Starbucks.

I will be making my own sauce tonight and we'll probably have corn pasta. We have some rice spaghetti too. I'll ask my parents. They are the ones that have to compromise on pasta. We're only 100% Italian.

Have a great day everyone! I'll be back on later for more replies.

CC

:wave2: Gonna post and run because I need to get to the store. I am out of EVERYTHING! The worst way to start a healthy eating plan is by not having any food in the house!

They will come though and I'm in need of some new snacks or yummies that will curb the appetite without being overly carby.

So how was your day today? And what are your favorite go-to foods to curb the munch monster within?
Gonna try to find my list of low/no carb snacks and post it later. Off the top of my head (since it is what is planned for this week) I like
  • fat free yogurt with low sugar,
  • celery with Peanut Butter (use no sugar added natural PB) or dip
  • cheese Laughing Cow has some good low fat cheese in different flavors you can put in celery, eggs and lots of other things.
  • Low Fat Mozzarella "String Cheese" is a great easy to grab and go snack. Wrap a piece of ham or turkey lunchmeat around it, maybe a dab of mustard and yum!
  • Take a piece of ham lunchmeat (remember to look for low fat and sugar content), spread with a schmear of lite cream cheese (tub type is easiest), put a dill pickle spear in the middle and wrap up. I love to make a few of these ahead of time for an on the go snack. Just keep them in an insulated bag with an icepack
  • Of course nuts. Watch your serving size and you don't want ones with sugar.
    Soup or small salad

I LOVE this website for great low carb (not all are so you do need to evaluate them) recipes for dips, snacks, meals, sides, breakfasts, really everything! http://www.kalynskitchen.com/ And I just picked up some Hungry Girl Cookbooks where she talks about having "mini meals"-- snack can be a small portion of leftovers, the other half of your lunch (I will often have salad for lunch and then soup for a snack later instead of soup and salad together).

Weren't in the mood for eggs for breakfast? Have one for snack-- of course hard boiled is easily portable but it really is pretty quick to make a scrambled one, you can even do it in a mug in the microwave easily at work. Add a few veggies in, maybe a little turkey bacon and you have a very filling snack. Just wash the mug out immediately or you will have egg permanently bonded with it!

I also like to have protein shakes (not Slim Fast or other Diet type shakes). Most diet plans don't recommend them but when I need a quick and easy low calorie, low carb, high protein shake it can be a great pick me up. Sometimes you are just too busy to eat something or are in a situation where you can't be eating but no one will bat an eye if you are drinking something, like in a meeting or in the classroom. With my IBS I also have times I really don't feel like eating so it is nice to be getting some nutrition. You have to read the labels and experiment with the flavors to see what you like. We currently have Chocolate EAS because Sams club carries it. I also like a particular type from GNC. If anyone wants more information about picking protein shakes and what to look for let me know and I can post about it. I did a lot of research into it.:surfweb:

Evening All!

Not too bad of a day. I ate okay and I'm pretty sure everything was GF. I am going to take LTS's suggestion and create a binder. Thank you! :goodvibes

. My other goal for tomorrow is to figure out how to add our Team Mickey clippie to my signature. :rotfl2:
I wish I still had mine, I would send it to you. I think I do have tons of bookmarks still so if you are looking for anything in particular let me know. :)

The Welcome Board FAQ has information on how to do a signature and add pictures so check it out (link is in my sig). PM me if you need help.

How are you liking South Beach? I know what you mean about knowing whether or not you have cheated. Once you get into a routine, you know if you're eating right or not.
.

Love, love, LOVE South Beach! I am a huge :cheer2: for it! It was recommended to me by a doctor about 7 years ago and she presented it not as a diet but as a way to teach myself to eat healthy and make lifelong habits. I have been on and off the wagon over the years but I do KNOW what choices I should be making and I find it very easy. Lean Protein, Veggies, Healthy Carbs in limited quantities. Easy Peasy. I find it also very easy to make choices when I am out. I don't have worry about calories and fat or points, I just make a choice that follows that formula and find I can adapt things very easy.

QOTD: I think tracking is important. It make me be honest with myself. It's easy to forget about what an old WW leader called the BLTs: Bites, Licks, and Tastes. I use an armband by Body Media as part of my Jenny Craig. It really is motivating to see how many calories I burn and if I am at a deficit or surplus. I also like all the graphics, I am a visual person and they make it easy to understand. This is what it looks like:
Great looking program!

CC - I have started a weight loss binder (even has a pic of Mickey on the front). I bought 24 dividers with tabs and made a divider for each month and then 12 more dividers that each sad "EXERCISE). Behind each monthly divider I put my 4 weekly meal plan templates (I'll post pics of all of this tomorrow). Then the EXERCISE divider goes behind the month divider (ex: January). This is where I put my monthly calendar template that I have written my exercises on. I also have the print outs from Sparkpeople for each week that i've done exercise. That print out shows what I did on a given day, how many minutes I did that activity, and how many calories I burned. I keep all of this as a good reference for me to look back at for exercise ideas and to keep me motivated.
That sounds AWESOME!! I may steal that idea too.

I plan on starting my workouts in 10 days after I return from bringing my parents to NC.
How is your mom doing?

QOTD: i think the most surprising thing is the amount of calories in a salad! here i used to think that if anything was served on top of lettuce it was ok! but hello! salad dressing has GOT to be the devil! a serving is usually only a tablespoon or two. when has ANYONE only used that much when not dieting?? even the fat free stuff or light stuff usually isn't all that good because it's loaded with sugar.

i usually just forgo the dressing all together because i never find myself using the correct portion. eyeballing is a no-no for me.
That is my one downfall! Especially since I am really picky about salad dressing and really only like Ranch. Fortunately for me South Beach allows ranch no problem but I do use too much. I think I shared a few months ago that I found that mixing dry Ranch Dressing Powder into Low fat cottage cheese gives me the flavor and the "moistness" that I want ( I hate a dry salad :crazy2: ), adds a dairy serving to my day and allows me to only use a very small amount of dressing. Also, sometimes I will take my non lettuce components (cucumbers, carrots, meat, tomatoes etc) and put them in a separate bowl. Add your allowed amount of salad dressing and toss really well to coat, add to your lettuce base and toss again. You will now have dressing in every bite but you use a lot less because you aren't trying to cover the lettuce.

Wallyworld is calling my name (UGH!) so I guess I better get going.

Following Lisah’s idea and replying 1 page at a time. I probably only have time to reply to 1 page of posts now as well.

I'm also allowed to snack on cucumbers, green beans, and radishes seasoned with olive oil and black pepper.

This has me very intrigued! :confused3

Have you tried doing a few weeks of very low carbs (none from any sugar/starch sources)? It sucks and you have to really be resolved but for many people it really does help reduce that craving and make it easier. After about 2 weeks it may be easier to pick up whatever program you are following.

May have to try this. Thanks again for all the help with being GF! Getting as organized as you were with it is my goal for today! :cool1:

Kipp: Enjoy your trip!

Today I am going to purge my freezer, refrigerator and pantry. I will have the kids take all the crackers and candy and anything else I shouldn't indulge in upstairs to little storage room I never go into. Need to get my grocery list done and get DH to go shopping.

Another thing to add to my to-do list!

Hi Lynette: I used to think I was a binge eater. I guess there is an actual definition and I didn’t meet the criteria. I have 2 ideas. You could somehow find out that you do or do not meet the criteria, or you could do what I did first. What I did was refuse to call what I was doing bingeing. Once I took the word out of my vocabulary, I felt a lot better about myself. :goodvibes

Sorry to hear about your mom.

I am posting from Cairo, as I have been visiting my daughter for Christmas, much to the chagrin of the other four who spent it at home with their Dad (he didn't want to travel, and the walking would have been a tough go for him). I return tomorrow, but don't anticipate being up to posting for a couple of days.

Would love to hear about your trip!

Hi Susan! How are you today! Deceptively Delicious was the book I had heard of. Thanks! :)

In a word -- Consistency. When I am consistent with diet and exercise, I lose weight. Add in a consistently thoughtful process, and how can I go wrong? :goodvibes

Love this! :thumbsup2

Hi Becky! Welcome! I hope you find us as supportive as I have.

Buckeye Fan: How did you new job go today?

Good Morning!!

So I cracked on my detox but not in horrible way. I ate a cup of multi-grain cheerios with almond milk last night I was really hungry. I felt bad cracking but i really needed something. After I plugged in my "meal" to my fitness pal I still had about 300 calories left for the day... so not too bad at all.

Today is a busy busy day for me, it's my last day at home; I'm off on Tuesdays so I get an extra day yay! I go back to work tomorrow. Today I will cook for tonight (chicken quesadillas) and for tomorrow (lentil soup). My son goes to nursery school/daycare on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. So I have to get his clothes and stuff ready. I have to get my outfits ready for the work week, and pack my gym bag.

Is anybody planning to watch the BL tonight??

As far as the QOTD: I was surprised with a lot of things but the most shocking for me was the Jamba Juice smoothies. Those things are PACKED with calories.

Debbie -- mom said to tell you "hi!"

Lisa -- i haven't said this but i've thought it many times....as dumbo-buddy just said we are SOOOO fortunate to have you coaching us!! :thanks:

A wedding how exciting! That burrito bowl was also an eye opener for me,
there was a time where I would eat a burrito bowl everyday!:scared1:

good morning losers!

it's so nice to see so many new "faces" on here! with all this support as well as our fantastic coach lisa we are all bound to succeed during this challenge!

how are our no-more-soda losers doing? drinking enough water? i'm a seltzer addict. just plain seltzer. makes me feel like i'm drinking soda.

have a healthy and happy day everyone! it's cold here so i will need to figure out how to get out and move (i'm participating in that 100 day challenge on facebook).

Yes! Salad Dressing is horrible... I like my salads well dressed and well thats a problem! :rotfl:

Hi, all! I'm Bridgett. I don't see my name on the list, but I'm a late joiner and was assigned to Team Mickey last night. Go Team Mickey!!! :cheer2:

I read an article recently where a lady made very minor modifications to her diet and lost on average a 1/2 a week. It took her two years, but she lost over 60 pounds. She has kept it off for over 5 years, but her whole point was not to be discouraged over small numbers on the scale. As long as it's going down, it all adds up. It was very motivating, as I think so many of us want to race to the finish line. I guess I really do have to start viewing it as a journey, not a destination! :rolleyes1

So Happy New Year, everyone! Let's set small goals this week. Mine...journaling and taking a multi-vitamin. :thumbsup2

Great Story! Welcome and thanks for sharing!

Hello Team Mickey!

I just joined and was added to this great team.

I am Kristi - 40 - from the Cleveland, OH area. I lost 50 lbs on WW last year and won the BL Fall 2010 challenge. I have gained a few back and hope that I can lose it again with all of the inspiration I gain from here.

Welcome! Hey OHIO!!!!!

Dumbo Buddy Nancy – Always love your posts. Glad to see that beautiful new Baby! Your Boys are sooooo cute.

Bicki – I can read the dis on my phone but you are right we need an APP. It is just too small and too much on a page. ( I am over 40 and that writing is tooooooo little) lol.

Okay, on fitness pal I think we need emails not just screen names. Anyone know?
My screen name is Nrade

Yep! I see all the Lisa’s and Nancy’s are together again!!! LOL!!! Who assigns these teams!!

Dave, How is your Grandbaby? I have been wondering and Praying.

Disneywedding 2010 – Thanks for sharing your blog entry. I wondered if you moved. I am so glad that you are happy (and losing)!!!

Buckeye Fan Good Luck with that new job!

"My head is playing games with me. So much of weight loss (especially for women) is mental. I'm beating myself up before I ever start. It kind of goes something like this..."Why are you trying to lose YET again? You've done this a million times before and never lose weight. Why do you think this time is going to be any different?""

So I ask that, but maybe if I didn’t jump on this band wagon all the times I have, I would be 45 and bedridden and Obese. Yes, it would be better if I exercised and stuck with it, dieted and kept the weight off, but for each time I have been successful it is a step in the positive direction in my life!

LTS, thanks for the snack tips!!

Good tips from Everyone!!!!! Thanks!!!!!

Have a Healthy Happy Week!
Nancy

:cheer2: Great start!

I don't have a problem with water but I am weird about it. I like it ice cold and I have found that I like drinking it from my insulated water bottle but from a glass I want to gag. Yep, very weird. This is the water bottle I have: http://www.thermos.com/products/vacuum-insulated-18-oz-stainless-steel-hydration-bottle.aspx I found it at Kmart. I have to have the insulated ones that keep ice for an entire day. FLYLADY also sells some good insulated waterbottles but I had some problems with them losing their seal. This thermos one also locks closed and doesn't leak. I carry it everywhere and take sips constantly. I usually refill it at least 2 or 3 times a day. I don't drink 8/ 8oz glasses of water a day because frankly I would just live in the bathroom if I did. I try for 4-6 a day.

Other times I will add some Crystal Lite to my glass of water. I don't need the full amount that it would be if you mixed it in a pitcher to the directions. I just add enough to flavor the water to my taste. I don't like just lemon in my water. I also really like fresh unsweetend iced tea so I usually have that with meals out and at home. Love my Keurig! Throw a tea bag into the cup holder and turn it on, pour over ice and can't get any fresher. I have several of the Tervis insulated cups and love those too for keeping my drink cold. I also found I drink more if I am using a straw. And I drink a LOT less if I have a soda in a can. If I pour it into a glass I will down it pretty quick. Out of a can (no straw) I can only drink about half. It is interesting the things you learn about yourself when you really start paying attention! Yet again, I am WEIRD!:lmao:

I love crystal lite and have been having that lately! I have no problem drinking pop in any container but I am kinda the same about water. It has to be ice cold. I find myself making a tall glass of water with ice and when the ice melts I dump the water and start over!

Lisa Lu

This will catch me up through post 200!

Hi Kristi! Good to see you!

Jo: How is today going? Congrats on quitting smoking! :cool1:

My goal this week is to bring my lunch to work every day instead of eating out... and water... drink lots and lots of water.

Great goals! :goodvibes

:welcome: ditsypixie

Got a run in today, but I was slow and unenthusiastic.

No buts! You did it! WTG!

Hi Molli! Don't worry about keeping up with the thread. We are a chatty bunch with some good compettition with Team Donald.

Hey LTS, you might be on to something there with the whole schedule thing.. I need to do the same type of thing just to keep my butt from sitting on the computer all day. Although I will admit I've gotten everything done on my to do list for the last two days. WOW!

I agree!

IAnd what are your favorite go-to foods to curb the munch monster within?

I'm a protein person. If it doesn't have protein in it, I am unlikely to eat it.

I am working on perfecting what I call my "Protein Pancake." It is GF and contains a full serving of protein. :goodvibes

Good luck with your job search cclovesdis. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Thanks!

:welcome: Jen! I used to be a special education teacher and I completely agree with you. No day is ever the same.

I'm also not that much of a believer, but since I no longer have a gallbladder and it takes my body longer to digest food that it used to I decided to go ahead and give it a try. It is actually part of Dr. Oz's 48 hours detox here is the link: Dr. Oz 48 Hours Detox My gym buddy who is also my co-worker handed it to me last week and said if I would do it with her so I said ok ;)

Interesting point. Hadn't thought of that. :goodvibes

Today has been a busy day. Got up this morning and worked out about 45 min. Stupid me tried to workout w/o having any food in my system :sad2: and I quickly got lightheaded and had to go grab an orange. Spent most of the afternoon taking down Christmas decorations and cleaning up the family room.

When I exercised in the morning, it wasn't predictable if I needed to eat something first. I remember I ended up not eating before exercising and overall, seemed okay. Some days were worse than others, but again, unpredictable. I never did completely figure it out. Good luck!

Friend of a Mouse: :goodvibes for testing today. You'll find lots of support here when it comes to allergies/intolerances. I'm a gluten and lactose intolerant one.

LTS -- I LOVE laughing cow cheese!! Yum-o! I buy that stuff 4 and 5 containers at a time. I eat it with my lunch every day. My favorite proetien shake (haven't bought any in awhile) are the Special K milk chocolate. I need to get back to buying them.

I love the idea about the mixing the veggies in dressing first and then putting them in the salad. I should try that.

I love my binder! Alan kind of laughed when I told him what I was going to do. But now that he sees that its keeing me organized and motivated he loves it. Now there is no mor questions "What's for dinner?". I just flip to that week's meal plan and tada its right there!

Hi everyone! I hope the day is going GREAT for you! :cheer2:

QOTD~ Yes, I was surprised about the amount of sugar and calories in some of the coffee flavorings that I like. I LOVE coffee and love to try all the different flavors, depending on my mood. But several of them have a lot of calories...especially when you put several tbsp in! :lmao: So, I have to cut back on the flavoring when I want more than one cup of coffee:sad2:

BMC423- I am so looking forward to Biggest Loser tonight! I LOVE that show! :goodvibes

Hi Michele: You are inspiring me to re-start the Shred. It's a really good workout.

I would like to join!

Please PM buzz5985 and let her know if you are planning to lose weight or maintain your current weight. Some people have more weight to lose, but choose to maintain for a few months for "practice."

Hi Tracey! Glad to hear everyone is feeling better!

I'm sure 1 extra hour a week isn't going to scar her for life right?!?

:rotfl2: I hope not! You could always plan an activity for daddy and DD time. Does the gym offer daycare?

Good Morning just thought I'd say hi before going to work. I didn't do well at all yesterday but it was my last day off work and now I'll be more on a schedule so that should help. I've packed my lunch so I'll do good until I get home tonight for sure and then it's a matter of will power. Have a good day everyone!

Hope today goes great for you!

****************I am caught up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I am posting again...How do we become friends on Myfitnesspal?

I went to the Gym this morning. I met with my trainer. He is great. I think we might buy some more sessions with him. Try to meet with him once a week.

I am also doing the Couch to 5K program. I think I am doing pretty good. I too am SLOW. My run is only 4.0 on the treadmill. Is that too slow? It gets my Heartrate up in the 80% range.

So here is my fun story...DH got me an Iphone for Christmas. I love it.

I am using it for lots of fitness Apps. My trainer says I can link it right to the fitness machines if I use the lifestyle machine App. He and I are going to try to figure that out this week.

Anyway, yesterday, I WON an Iphone from my work! I was so excited, but now my kids are fighting over it! :rotfl: Let's see who is nicest to me now!!! I am going to work this for all it is worth!!!!!!

So I am doing low carb. My fav snack is the Breyers Low Carb ice cream bars. DH is not good about low carb right now, he is just trying to cut back on carbs. BUT last night when I went to the freezer, he says " I ate your last Ice Cream bar"!! STINKER!!!!!!!!!!!! Is it wrong that I was Really really mad?

Okay time to get showered and do my errands. It is my last day until I am back at work!!!

Happy, Healthy Week!!

I am actually surprised by many things when I find out the calories. Salad dressing is a big one, Starbucks drinks, etc. You don't think something so basic would have so many calories. You all should have seen my oldest child's face (Corinne) when she saw how many calories were in a Caesar Salad at Red Robins....it was over 1,000. Wow!!!!! :scared1:

So far I have done well this week. :cheer2: I've:
Exercised 10 minutes a day
Drunk my 4 glasses of water (or more)
I've only had 2 sodas a day
And I've eaten smaller portions and a lot less carbs.

I'm so fighting the urge to weigh myself...not until Friday.

I did splurge with trying one of those new Skinny Cow candy bars (chocolate wafer something). It wasn't bad...just the right amount of sweetness. I just really needed the chocolate yesterday.

Michelle (yanni2)

Nancy -- i sent you a friend request on MFP -- on your 'home' page under the tabs you'll see 'friends' then 'invite friends' which will bring a new list under the tabs...then 'search members', then you can search for people using their username

Okay CC here are some pics. Some will turn out better then others. Some are screen shots and others are taken with my Blackberry.

Screen shot of my Sparkpeople minutes tracked. This of course is available to anyone that joins Sparkpeople. At the end of the week I print them off and put them in my binder so I can keep track of the minutes, calories, and exercises I'm doing.

Thanks for sharing the story about the apps and the gym machines I will look out for that tomorrow when I go. Congrats on winning an IPhone!
How old are your kids? Maybe you can create a challenge of sorts. Are they assigned household chores? Maybe you can do something like who every completes all the chores without being reminded for the month or something like that. If they are old enough to have resolutions maybe you can motivate them with those.

No it's not wrong that you are really mad... my husband eats my skinny cow stuff all the time, even if he has regular ice cream right next to it... it is annoying because it leaves you without an option.

OH Mom, I see it now on FitnessPal.

I will work on this later! I did accept your friend request!!

I will look forward to the little messages and pick me ups!!

Thanks for saying it was alright to be mad. You are right, I was mad because then I really wanted a sweet treat and there was NOTHING for me. Okay I am letting go of that guilt!! :goodvibes
